Ironically was to have been there right now; was looking at booking a month ago, but waited until things settled down!

Now I will not return until things are normal again, and the only thing I’ll worry about is the Vegas heat! I’m not wearing no mask on the plane, I’ll keep my Purell (which I always had, even before this year), and we’ll see if that happens this summer or next summer.

I won't dare make a prediction, and the exact dates aren't important, but I think it's safe to say that the virus has been with us for 2 months. Worse yet, the number of infected and dead are increasing at an accelerated pace. In other words, the pandemic is not yet going away by any stretch of the imagination. I could be way off about this, but even assuming it peaks today, can you really expect it to dissipate faster than it came? Whether Vegas is opened back up or not, you do the arithmetic! Other than that, I can't wait to go back … when it's reasonably safe. :(

I do not want to go to an empty Vegas. I have already canceled one trip. Or they canceled me. I'm due to go again on May 1st.
At this point I'm ready to go even if the crowds are thinner.

I’m one of those who is not really thinking about it right now. I’m waiting until I think Vegas is a safe place to be. If it is, then I think it’ll be plenty “Vegasy” for us. We’re conservative, so we think we’ll wait until there is an effective vaccine, an effective therapy or no reported cases.

I am already antsy, and an occasional Vegas Fantasy is good for me, but I recognize that for quite a while that’s what it is, a fantasy. I’ll let health professionals tell me when to be Vegasy.

I was supposed to be going this Tuesday. Also had a trip planned mid June for a conference. Conference postponed until September.

I've explored some other reservations... made none.

"Vegasy" interpreted as crowds, etc... I wouldn't care.
"Vegasy" interpreted by what's open... I would care. If they phase back in, open restaurants, shows, pools, even properties, over weeks.... I wouldn't rush back .

Lastly, I'm very curious. Don't want speculation to get this thread locked, so will list questions
    • What will be different facility/service-wise?
    • Are they using this time to deep clean every room? Change carpet?
    • Will all the rooms get the type of attention thats difficult to address during occupancy? All the curtains working, fix bathroom caulking. Will every light bulb work, rooms and public spaces?
    • Will there be new games on the casino floors? Will old standbys be gone? Will every button on every slot be working?
    • Will wifi be better everywhere, dead zones addressed?
    • Will restaurants that weren't particularly successful never reopen... with signs promising new offerings to come?
    • New menus? New offerings, themes at buffets?
    • Will check-in change, more Park MGM-like kiosks?
    • Other than Welcome Back, will signs along LVB change?
In summary, are the resorts using this time? How? Or will they make changes if theres an announced opening date with some notice? Or will they just hang on, and then open with nothing much changed?

Seeing what, if anything, is different will probably get me back there fairly quickly.

Best way to compare it. Look at the vibe of your local casino, I don’t want it like that.

Since I’m out of work due to covid19, but getting unemployment I’d like to go in June or July if they open. Considering that if I don’t get my job back, I’ll probably have to work a while before I can get a vacation in a new job. I’m just going to play it by ear.

I'd rather wait until the all-clear and then give it another 30-60 days before I return. I love Vegas and want to enjoy it to its fullest, healthiest self.

But to answer all the questions, and even the OP's question is to speculate.

We have no idea what is going to happen in mid-April when Gov Sisolak's order expires. At the end of March, the numbers show no sign of decreasing in Nevada, or anywhere else in the US. I would think that the minimum required for Sisolak to open the casinos would need to show a decrease in transmissions and there is no sign of that. Like others have said, a vaccine is 12-18 months away from being approved, even on the fast track. There are some treatments being tested, but we are a long ways away from anything happening with that. People with mid-April and May reservations seem to be overly optimistic at this point.

And even if Vegas opens, I'm not going to go there right away. There's a good chance that opening a place like Vegas too early to travel from all over the world, or even just the US, is going to result in another surge of cases being transmitted, since you can shed the virus before you are symptomatic.

I've asked several times that we not do threads like this. It is fodder for the rumor mill, which is kind of running rampant right now with lots of dangerous disinformation. It also kind of dismissive to people who are immuno-compromised and hoping people like you will just stay home and not continue to transmit this thing to people who will die if they get it.

I know we all have questions and are not used to being stuck at home, but all we're doing is guessing and feeding the rumor mill with speculation. Are you just bored and starting new threads to ease that? Or do you really believe we can do anything to change any part of this situation? The way you change it is to stay home, wash your hands, and avoid being out in public as much as possible, so we can slow down this first wave of the virus.

And yes, I said first wave. All evidence seems to point to the fact that this could be with us more than a year. Hopefully this will follow the Spanish Flu pattern and ease up in the summer months and allow us to get out and do our thing. However, please remember that when that fall of 1918 came around, cases surged again and millions of people were infected and many, many more people died than in the first wave.

So, I guess I can leave this open for a bit and see how it goes. But please don't speculate on the future. We can't even begin to know what we don't know yet about how this will go from here.

The vibe at the locals here (well, two of them, and before the crisis) was always upbeat and festive. There's enough of a market to keep all of them busy, and enough competition to keep them, well, sort of competitive. Before the $#!+ hit the fan, corona-wise, they were starting to implement free drinks under some conditions.

'fraid not. We've wanted to ratchet up our outdoors / hiking endeavors, so we put Vegas on the back burner. Then we get slammed with self quarantine - and the closing of our local hiking trails - so the needle on the 'get out, get moving' pressure cooker is inching over towards the red. I think Vegas will be in full tilt Vegas mode by the time we get back there.

In answer to the OP's question -- VEGASY, which for me means up and running 100%, even if a bit changed with a new normal e.g., no self serve at buffets, machines spaced further apart, etc. etc. I love gambling but spas and concerts (yep, hundreds or thousands of people together) are one of the things I really enjoy in Vegas.

And yes, though I live in NYC and there will be risks here long after the curve has flattened, I'd rather be at home if I didn't feel well and have access to great medical care at home rather than be dealing with a cough that I started to have while on vacation.

When restrictions are lifted, Vegas is not the place I will be headed. I need to be with my people - my sons in San Francisco and San Antonio, my Mom on the Cape, cousins and friends all around the country. I am surprised, but I couldn't give a crap about Vegas or gambling. I am not sure if i will ever care about it again.

Wow, just noticed the countdown I don't have the heart to remove.

The president just extended social distancing guidelines to late April.

If I had unlimited resources and wasn't busy with work, I'd be there first in line to get back into the Wynn. I'd make the workers forget all about their month of no income.

However, since that isn't the case, I'm waiting to go until August. I like the heat and want things to feel normal.

Seeing it the weekend before St. Patrick's Day was weird. I don't want to ever see the city like that again.

After my early February trip I've already decided to give Vegas a rest, and it wasn't because of the increasing situation we're now in. I just wanted to take a break from Vegas.

But with that being said, going back to Vegas would've been an easy decision. Not so much now.

When I finally get the urge and desire to go back, many other factors will now make a play in the decision. All of those factors will center around the current condition of the virus threat, whether it has been defeated, contained, or continue to pose a degree of danger of infection.

I realize speculation or prediction is futile. I'll wait until the all's clear is sounded then make my decision from there.

I hope self service buffets are banned forever in Vegas and elsewhere. It’s not going to hurt the bottom line if they hire a few servers. Personally I’d go to buffets more often if the ban self service.

All I'm saying is that according to the CDC H1N1 killed 151,700-575,400 people world wide with further estimates of 60 million people in the US also contracting it. By the numbers, far more serious than what we are looking at right now. Yet the world and its economies did not cease. The economies of the world must be started up again at some point because shutting things down much further than May-ish could be financially problematic for the planet. Now the first politician to follow that route is gonna get slammed and vilified but someone will have to be the first out of the gate.

100% agreed. I think that having servers, whether attendants at the buffet serving you food or taking your order and bringing it to your table, will provide a lot of benefits to buffet patrons...

    - Food safety... both in terms of lower risk of inadvertent contamination as well as the opportunity to observe and correct visible things like cross-contamination.

    - Inventory control... it will be far easier to control portions of things that people go to town on like seafood. This is both a cost benefit, and a matter of fairness to everyone. That is, when people pile their plates sky-high with crab legs, people end up waiting around for the next batch to be prepared. Whereas if you're only allowed X amount per serving, it "flattens the curve" of demand, so to speak.

    - Customer service... if dealing with a server at your table or at the buffet, the customer will be able to benefit from insights (e.g., "Does this contain _____?") and suggestions (e.g., "Which one of these do you like best?").

There's also the argument that the buffet serving area itself won't take up as much square footage if it doesn't have to accommodate patrons serving themselves... meaning that more tables can be added and therefore greater seating capacity to make more money.
