    My Trip Report

Okay, I don’t have the energy to do a full fledged TR (plus, it was a really tame trip). But I saw the thread that @sybgal started and figured I should do my part to add what I can for folks Jonesing for some Vegas. So here are some pics from my trip at the beginning of March with my old man.

It’s not much. But it’s all I have. Hope you can get a tiny Vegas fix from it.

We left at some ungodly hour. But it did make for some pretty views.

And, regardless of the time, when the drinks are free, how do you turn them down?

The other side of the plane got the best views, but I still got to see some of the majesty of the American Southwest.

I always feel like a dog riding in a car who begins to recognize that he’s in his own neighborhood and almost home when I see this.

Is that a Bloody Mary @thecarve? Yum. On a flight in January the flight attendant asked me “Just the mix?”, when I requested one. :haha:
You can’t early morning drink-shame me, lady. I’m a professional. :drunk:

I don’t think it’s speculation to say that this will be a fixture of the new Vegas.

We arrived crazy early but weren’t ready for lunch. But we’re also a couple of drunks. So, a mid afternoon snack (and cocktail...or two) was in order!

Last time I ate at SW, it was an absolute disaster and I swore I wouldn’t return for a while. But, we both wanted steak, dad’s knees are completely shot and I didn’t want him to have to walk too much soooo...

Fortunately, SW was on top of their game this time. Everything (but the cheesecake :snore:) was fantastic. (We each had a wedge salad. Dad had the strip and I had the ribeye and we shared the spuds and creamed corn.)

Day two started with the Jazz Brunch at Lakeside. It was absolutely delicious but I did a terrible job with the pictures. Sorry. 36DCD811-4419-4082-A6DB-83FA04219719.jpeg 1851FC2B-9951-4748-9857-205B54C286A9.jpeg 32340A2B-4C1F-4CBD-A802-0AB88E01FF59.jpeg F70F6342-FD03-4881-9769-E33200E5CC7F.jpeg 9CEAF081-3B80-4706-B3C8-F05C35A1DBEF.jpeg

I sure hope this brunch - and the band - returns...sometime?:(

I too am like the dog who recognizes home when I see these pictures. Greatness. Seeing the waiting car and the Tower Suites entry always makes me feel like, “Home at Last.” I could conjure up the wonderful smell of the Rolls leather and Curtis or John smiling, “Welcome back” as they open the door on arrival. I could hear the waterfall at SW and Lakeside-a sensory mini-trip.

Thanks for the great pics. Probably as close as as we’re going to get for a while. We’ve made our May/June trip for 23 years in a row, but not this year. Sigh.

You definitely improved my day, but a little bittersweet. I prefer to read your message as an uplifting reminder that I’ll see these things again. Yay!

After stuffing ourselves at brunch, we didn’t want a big dinner. So, some Grimaldi’s was an easy choice. After a stop at Electra for a few cocktails.

The last meal of the trip was at Sinatra.

All the food on this trip was fantastic. Though, I was disappointed in the changes made to the bread baskets at SW and Sinatra. Yeah, first world problems, I know. :rolleyes2:

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. LOVED the pictorial report, made that much more special knowing your dad was there to enjoy it with you. Almost makes me weepy for "home away from home" and note; that didn't have anything to do with gambling . . . but instead was about the service, ambience, food, cocktails, just the feeling . . . .

I will be revisiting this thread a number of times over the next few days and weeks as those photos transport many of us to our favorite place in our favorite town (other than home).

    :blowkiss::blowkiss::blowkiss::blowkiss::blowkiss::blowkiss::blowkiss:

On a different note, I love that Electra and Grimaldi combo from "next door" at V/P. I'll have to put that on my list for my next trip as I've never tried Grimaldi and I've wanted to hit all of the cocktail lounges at V/P.

    Thank you again.

We are building a new house about three minutes from an excellent Grimaldi’s in our area. What used to be a vacation only treat will be virtually at our doorstep. On our January trip this year we were across the street in Fashion Show and we sampled the Grimaldi’s there, a first for us. We thought it was better than the VP location. The room was comfortable and the service and pizza were perfect. Maybe ymmv, but we’ll probably venture over there in the future-only a little less convenient.

The last dinner we had in Las Vegas, maybe for quite a while, was at Sinatra. If we need a good memory to tide us over, about as good as it gets.

Again, thanks for the memories and reminders. This is a highly aspirational post for us. Excellent!

@Jackpot Johnny, I didn't even know there was a Grimaldi's in FSM. Great to know. And how lucky for you that you have a Grimaldi's that close to you. I assume they are doing take out, even with the lockdowns, which is fantastic.

My most recent dinner in Vegas, on February 29th, was also at Sinatra. It was perfect as always and I had the pleasure of taking a photo with the chef that evening. I feel so good -- especially in retrospect --about being embarrassingly "star struck" as I told him and the sommelier how much I loved Sinatra and of course them. That evening ended with the Harry Connick Jr. concert.

Although it was a short and losing (from a gambling perspective) trip, I was still glad I went and even more so now. It's surreal that that day was a month ago . . . today. How the world has changed since then.
