I bought 6 shares of ERI and 3 of CZR. Not expecting much. Just testing the waters on stocks since I have zero experience, but now that I am off for another two weeks (with pay), I have been doing some research. Any tips?

Depends on what your goal is. Are you looking to trade often, or be more of an "investor". Do you want to hold long term (at least a year) or are you willing to pay capital gains (your normal tax rate, instead of 15% like long term) and sell after owning for less than 12 months?

Picking individual stocks to beat index funds long term is really hard, but if you think of it as gambling, it's somewhat fun to own individual stocks and root for that company. Ones i have been watching these past couple weeks to get at discount to hold at least a year are: TSLA(want more), SHOP, PENN, CZR, LUV, JETS, BAC, NAT, and VZ. (My 401K is diversified and covers everything, so i dont diversify on buying individual stocks).

Now if you dont have any retirement and are starting fresh, look into simple funds that are diversified. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/markets/101415/4-best-sp-500-index-funds.asp

Buying and selling small amounts just messes up your taxes for little gain.

An easier way to "play" is to buy and sell using a spreadsheet and see how you do. No cost.

I'm not an experienced stock trader, but I've heard that this type of simulation can be misleading because when you aren't dealing with real bids/asks, you operate on the assumption that your order always gets filled, which doesn't always happen in reality. Are you able to speak to that at all?

Depends on what you are using to purchase stocks, but it's pretty easy to buy at the market price for that second of time. Now if you are doing fancier types of transactions, that would be harder to simulate

I forgot my senior year in college we used a simulator online where we had "cash" and we invested throughout the semester to see how much we could make. Let me see if i can find something like that to try and learn about trades.

    Yeah, something like this: https://www.marketwatch.com/game

We could even have a VMB group and see who can make the most money :)

you can open a paper trading account with lots of the brokers out there. Bid/ask spreads not much to worry about in liquid stocks unless you are "fake" buying 1000s+ of shares

Seriously, unless you have the time and expertise, or have some spare investment dollars just to play with, index funds with what you think is a reasonable allocation across categories for you! Or maybe naked options... ;)

Though that is true, in most cases it is not that far off. You do not know how much you would or COULD have bought, or sold it for. Pick a number. Bid, ask, daily close, daily open, daily average. It is the big boys that make money on the half a percent swing between bid and ask. Besides, tomorrow that same stock can swing up or down anyways.

The deadline for the deal to be completed has passed and now Eldorado has to pony up $2.3 Million per day in fees to Caesars.

Wow, those late fees are going to kill Eldorado's free cash flow / capital. These are going to add up quick as most likely not going to be completed any time soon

So here's my screenplay, "REVERSE D'ALEMBERT":

CZR is mired in bankruptcy, ElDo rides in to "save the day". ElDo runs their mouths about how many changes there are going to be, how dumb CZR execs are, etc. CZR execs get angry but there's nothing they can do. Stock market hits the skids. ElDo can no longer cover the cost. CZR gets fat and happy on $2.3 mil a day, culminating in another $836 mil at the end. CZR becomes liquid enough to buy ElDo instead, throwing ElDo's insults right back at them at closing.

Per that article, the fee goes to all shareholders upon closing.
