Flamingo Pool questions

For our next trip this June, I'm considering renting a day bed at the Go Pool on a Thursday. The price was not that terrible, and I understand about the minimum food/beverage billing (same price as the bed). Here's my question; I believe we would have the same server all day, so is it customary to just tip as we are leaving, either with cash or adding it to my credit card bill? Also, what's a recommended amount; 20 % of everything or a flat amount? I've never done this before and I don't want to short change anyone?

For anyone that's familiar with it all, do they have breakfast items available before noontime? I've checked the Flamingo website and don't see the info. Thanks in advance.

 

We rent a bed every year. Yes, you will have the same waitress all day. You will also have the same runner all day. We just give them our credit card and then pay/tip at the end. We tip both the waitress and runner but they tell you that is up to you.

You will also have a "host". The host really doesn't do much of anything except escort you to your bed and check in a few time to make sure you are okay. We tip him $20 when we get there.

The do have breakfast items and they are really good portions. I got a breakfast sandwich and it was two eggs, two sausage patties on a huge croissant. And it came with fries also. The food is very reasonable priced (unlike the alcohol). I think my sandwich was $9.

 

That breakfast sandwich sounds just like the ones they sell at Cafe Cappuccino by the Spa Tower elevators, and they are a good deal. Thanks for all the other info; it was very quick and very helpful.

 

My pleasure! We love the Flamingo pool. Thursdays are a good day to rent the bed. It's busy but the prices are half of what they are on Friday or Saturday. Have fun!

 

The food is actually pretty decent - you can also get "platters" if you have a larger group (Veggie and/or Fruit). I actually prefer the daybeds as you are right at the edge of the pool versus back away from the "action"

Please be careful though and watch any valuables - last time I was there I noticed at the end of the day people looking for missing items. Could be people who have just gotten so wasted forgot where they left their stuff, or drunk people picking up your stuff by mistake or outright theft.

There are some lockers on the side of the building by the bathrooms that are like .25 or .50 cents (every time you enter) and the key is on a elastic band that goes around your wrist, I highly recommend it for your drugs, phone, id, etc while you are in the pool.

 

There will only be 2 of us, so I don't know if a platter will be a deal for us, but I'm glad to hear the food isn't that bad. I had forgotten about those lockers. Usually my wife and I just take turns going into the pool with the other watching our stuff, so the lockers may be the way to go. Thanks for the reminder.

 

I've never had a problem with anyone messing with our stuff. The beds are right at the pool edge. We get the bed with the "wet deck" so it has a little ledge to sit on right at the bed. If we wonder away from the bed I just make sure our stuff is not visible. The bed has a little end table with an area under it so I just put it there. Maybe I've just been lucky.

 

The beds I was checking were not the wet deck, but the ones a little further back. A little cheaper but it still seemed to be plenty big from the online photos. I don't know if you've been lucky, but with that many people running around that area, I would not like to leave my stuff alone there. Yes, if I can hide it underneath for a few minutes while I'm nearby, that would be fine, but not for an extended period of time. Thanks again for all the replies.

 

Yeah, you are going to have a great time - one other thing, I always bring a cheap pair of flip flops to the flamingo pool. The pool deck there is absolutely filthy, and also gets really hot & sticky from people spilling drinks as the day goes on. This way my feet stay fairly clean, and also prevents the soles from burning from the heat.

Also, wasn't implying there is a lot of "theft" going on at the pool, more of wasted people grabbing what they think is their bag by accident. Lockers just give me peace of mind.

 

Heather, I've actually had a shift change one time, and it was odd because we used up the F&B amount, so we closed that tab and just went to the bar for a bucket. The shift change came late, so it was no big deal.

We watched a lady in bare feet take off up the stairs to head to the restroom. She got about half way and didn't know what to do. Her feet were burning, then she would try to sit and her but was burning. I felt bad for the poor girl! Yes, always bring flip flops!!!

 

Weird! We have had the same waitress and runner for the last two years. That shift change would throw me! I rather like being waited on However, the one time we went and did not rent a bed we spent far less money by getting our own drinks.
