    My Trip Report

This is our ten year Vegas-versary trip! We first visited in Vegas in March 2010 and have been back almost every year since. (Sometimes twice a year to balance it out) So this is the tenth year, our tenth trip. Staying at NYNY for ten days, followed by four days at Sam's Town. Lots of low rolling, pictures of beer and food and some poor attempts at humour. (and yes, pancakes!) :feedme:

Going to do my best to keep up (I am already a few days behind), so this will be sort-of live in arrears... And I'm already three days behind but hope to catch up :haha:

So to begin with, we didn't have the best start, lots of small problems which added up to a chunk of negativity in the first 24 hours. I don't intend to start this on a downer, so we've put that behind us and let's fast forward. Suffice to say we got in on Friday night and it was Saturday night before we felt we could begin our holiday. So, let's go!

It was time to get in the Vegas mood and I was pleased to find that my favourite little bar in NYNY still had Tenaya Creek brown ale, so that started us off nicely.

For dinner we didn't feel like going far so it was outside to Bruxies Chicken and Waffles. The waffles here are so good, really light with a crispy bite, and they have this maple syrup with a hint of chili, it's spot on flavour-wise.

    MVIMG_20200229_175711_copy_2016x1512.jpg

We hit the slots and I hit a jackpot of just over 200 bucks on the quick hit machine, so this left me about 60 bucks ahead for the day. Can't complain and that rounded off Saturday nicely and lifted the start of our holiday

The room at NYNY is alright, it's a Park Avenue room so we are in the cheap seats! We got two nights comped plus $50 resort credit, bearing in mind that we're low rollers I think we did ok. It's a bit small, but otherwise fine for us. It's technically a Strip view room… really more of a Str… view ...

    See what I mean? :haha:

Bruxies is so good! Love their airy waffles. Always get the nashville hot waffle chicken sandwich. I believe they changed the name now.

When was the first day of the Trip?

So the first rental car we had was a Volvo… I forgot to take a photo. It seemed a little boring to come all the way to America and drive a Swedish car, but I'd never driven one before and the other option was an Infiniti which I had so there you go. Anyway, the Volvo turned out to be a bit of a let-down (see what I did there? ) so we swapped it for this...

    MVIMG_20200301_075708_copy_2016x1512.jpg

...which is a pretty nice car except for the weedy 2 litre engine. Feels like it should have a V8. Plenty of toys though.

Sunday we were up really early (yay jetlag!) so it was off to IHOP. Let's get this party started :feedme:

    MVIMG_20200301_081032_copy_2016x1512.jpg

After that we headed over to Walmart to get supplies. They still sell that $10 coffee maker so we got that and some coffee, plus some other bits n bobs. Could not find any Sam Adams Boston lager! Not sure what the deal is there, but grabbed some Duschete porter to keep me going. Also got a big bucket for ice (think it's intended for kids for the beach, but it's a perfect size for ice and a few beers)

For lunch we weren't particularly hungry so just got some bacon cheese fries from Nathan's.

Sunday night we were still feeling the jetlag so we just ate locally at the America cafe in NYNY. I had the BBQ chicken, Mrs P had the spaghetti and meatballs. Drinks were Sam Adams on draft. The meal was ok, nice but nothing spectacular. Service was great, our waiter was very helpful.

Played a few slots but no wins to speak of. We had another early night, actually made it to 9pm though :haha:

Some of the views from NYNY rooms are such weird angles , it’s always interesting to me, tho I haven’t stayed there in a cpl of years. Thanks for posting your TR, that picture from Bruxies looks really good, have always thought about trying them but always end up around the corner at shake shack!

We have had that view on a comp too. It was only two nights so we didn't mind too much. The window was filthy anyway.
I hope you have got all the bad luck out of the way and have a great rest of the trip.

    Happy anniversary!

Monday we got our three day monorail tickets (MyVegas buy one get one free) and we went exploring up the strip. We went all the way to the end to have a look at Sahara. Seemed to be a lot of construction going on there, it was quite noisy at times. Went outside to have a look around.

    PANO_20200302_104406.vr.jpg

My first thought was, Wow that's a lot of construction! Why on earth would they need that many cranes… then it dawned on me of course it's the construction expo this week!

Then it was back down south, we got off at Harrahs/Linq at got a quick breakfast from the food court there.

Lots of walking around the Linq area, seeing what was new. The Linq zip line looks fun, but maybe another time!

We went over to the Cosmopolitan for lunch, as I wanted to check out this new Block 16. It's a really fun concept, just like a little corner of the Orient. We took a while to decide as it all looked good, but eventually settled on Pok Pok Wings.

We had the Ike's Famous Vietnamese Chicken Wings. They were very tasty, spicy but not too spicy. They were a bit on the salty side, some might say too salty. But really good.

    MVIMG_20200302_182339.jpg

We crossed back over and up for a bit more sightseeing and came back to MGM Grand on the monorail.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Well actually there was a bat flying around the MGM lobby… poor little guy seemed very confused. Hope they got him out ok!

    MVIMG_20200302_124015~3.jpg

But to quote the guy next to us, hey even Batman needs a vacation, right?

Dinner, I needed something sweet after those wings, so had a waffle from 48th and Crepe. It was pretty decent.

    MVIMG_20200302_192357.jpg

After that we walked over to Excalibur to play some VP, didn't win anything but the drinks service was pretty good.

I love Pok Pok. Had the original in Portland and it was definitely unique in a good way.

    Good stuff so far!

Surprised Walmart didn't have Sam Adams. But I do remember not being impressed with Walmart's beer selection in Vegas. Total Wine south of the strip though... that will have a fuckton of different beer.

Tuesday we were still up quite early, it seems to take longer to shake off the jetlag as we get older! We stopped for breakfast downstairs in the village section at NYNY. One of the things we like about this hotel is that there's plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. Appreciate that's not everyone's idea of a Vegas holiday!o_O

Anyway, I had a donut, Mrs P had a bagel and coffee from the Village Bakery place.

    MVIMG_20200304_095926.jpg

Suitably nourished, we took the monorail north to Harrahs/Linq and crossed over to the mirage and TI, had a nosey around there complete with a quick pitstop at the Starbucks. Then I followed Mrs P to the Fashion Show mall...

Sooo that took a while, but I got my own back by embarking on a thorough tour of the food court :haha:

Was pleased to see that Indian Masala is still there, their curry is great! We had other plans for lunch today though.

Speaking of which, it was about that time. We went back over the strip and got lost in the Palazzo/Venetian shops but eventually found it!

    MVIMG_20200303_134850.jpg

They had a good beer list, I had the Haulin' Oats which was excellent. Mrs P had the Peanut butter milk stout, which she liked also.

    MVIMG_20200303_131442.jpg

Lunch was the Lewellyn's Fine Fried Chicken with fries for me, and Mrs P had the Lunch Plate Express.

    MVIMG_20200303_131917.jpg

It was excellent, chicken was moist, skin was crispy, the seasoning was great and most importantly it wasn't greasy. Service was excellent as well, we really enjoyed the meal. Thanks to everyone on VMB who recommended it!

After that we were full of chicken, so got the monorail back to MGM. Didn't do much for the rest of the day, just grabbed pizza for dinner from Sciroccos.

Went for a walk around outside in the Park MGM area while the Knights were playing.

    MVIMG_20200303_200521.jpg

Played a few slots after that… Got a decent win on the Quick Hit machine woohoo! :woohoo:

    MVIMG_20200303_211504.jpg

This is actually my second largest individual win ever so I was well chuffed :D
