Okay, I know Silver Sevens takes a lot of hits on this board. However, I must give it some love. During the winter months, it keeps its pool area open from 8am to 9pm, which includes one of the best hot tubs in all of Vegas. The pool area itself is quite pleasant with the palm trees, comfortable seating and quiet ambience. As far as the rooms go, there has been remodeling going on. S.S. will never be Strip quality, but it fits the bill for people like me. And, I appreciate the location between the airport and Strip. Agree, though, about the crowded nature of the casino. I prefer to gamble elsewhere. And, the food offerings are meager.
I’ve been to a good chunk of the casinos in Vegas but never Silver Sevens but thinkin I might stop by next visit. So from what you said I take it the casino is busy? Actually I’d prefer it be busy than some of the casinos that seem so empty with nothing going on....
It's not busy with people as much as it is crowded with machines and table games. It is cramped space.
I played a few hours on video poker and slots a few years ago. I had over $250 in free play over a four day period. The only bad thing is they spaced it out over four days. A cool dive place though. If you like it try Tuscany Suites. Nice rooms and pool. Generous free play and food too.
You are very right about the pool there. Back in the Terrible's days, we had patio room which allowed us to walk right from the patio to the pool area, which as you say, is well appointed with palm trees, etc. Only a few people were in the pool area, making a very peaceful, restful time. A very unique setup, unmatched in town. On the other hand, the casino gets my vote being maybe the top place for smokiest casino. Haven't stepped foot in there since the Terrible's cut VP and slot club perks, towards the end, and the new owners just carried on that trend, even more.
I thought they just changed the name and Terrble's still owned it? No? (since "Terrible's" wasn't a great name for a hotel or a casino)
Terribles expanded too quickly, buying other Nevada casinos just before the recession. The debt became an issue, and they filed for bankruptcy, giving up ownership in the process. "Herbst Gaming filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2009 with a prepackaged plan to hand ownership of the casinos to the company's bank lenders, while the Herbst family would receive a 90 percent stake in the slot route business. After objections from bondholders, the plan was revised to give full ownership of the slot route operation to the creditors, leaving the Herbsts with no role in the business. The company, reorganized as Herbst Gaming LLC, emerged from bankruptcy at the end of 2010, owned by a group of approximately 140 investment companies and banks The company changed its name to Affinity Gaming in May 2011, to avoid confusion as the Herbst family planned to rejoin the gaming industry. The last Affinity property bearing the name, Terrible's Hotel and Casino, was rebranded as the Silver Sevens in 2013"
I had a comped room there years ago when it was Terribles. Room was like a motel 6 on a deserted highway...glad to hear they refurbished the rooms. Casino was tied for THEE smokiest casino I've ever been in (along with Longhorn on Boulder Hwy)...sorry to hear they haven't redone the air filtration system. Personally, I won't play there due to the smoke. Once a casino gets that level of cigarette smoke going in it, the odor gets into the carpet and the drywall. The place will just stink immediately upon entering even if no one is currently smoking.
The smokiness of casino is much less than what it what in the past. Perhaps they have an upgraded filtration system.
We stayed there a few times. First was 2002, and last was 2017 if I remember correctly. Agree on the pool area, It's quite lovely for what is a local joint.
If this helps at all, I had to call the Silver Sevens about staying there one night, so I could take advantage of their shuttle to the airport. The rep told me, ALL rooms have been recently renovated and now ALL hotel rooms were totally non smoking. She even gave me a comp room, even though I haven't played there in over two years.
Just don't eat at the buffet. Very bad food. Flashback to the Sahara or Riviera buffets yikes... But do miss those hotels and others that closed.
And now the world is a better place! One of my most memorable buffet experiences is the one time I ate in the buffet there for breakfast. Besides being the worst breakfast that I've had at any buffet, 15 minutes before closing time, they flicked the lights off and on, to give customers the hint that they better be leaving soon! Just like the Wynn! ;-)
