I spend a couple months a year in DT Vegas and would like to compliment your perspective. I have zero issue with anyone liking or disliking whatever they choose. I see sometimes that people seem to indicate that if all these people hate it, then they will hate it. Personally, there is nothing that I have experienced on Fremont Street that raises my pulse level. I'm not a gawking, picture taking tourist. I'm a gambler that goes from one casino to another at any time of the day or night. Occasionally there is a kick ass concert going on and I stop and listen. I can remember only one time I was asked for money outside of a casino. I don't remember a single instance of feeling threatened, stalked, or harassed. Staying away from DT Vegas because someone else hated it, is like avoiding a cuisine because you read that someone doesn't like Thai food. Thai food is awesome!

Where do you propose the Astros move their minor league bucket bangers?

Just my opinion, but I think the bucket bangers and nearly naked people need to go away. Not any talent, just annoying.

Now, people with some talent, such as the sax player, are nice to watch and listen to.

Downtown, once again, needs to be cleaned up.

Hubby and I still visit downtown, mostly in the daytime now though, less of the party crowd. LOL Yes, we are getting on in years. LOL

In my opinion, I think it's the characters that need to go. I'm soooo tired of the Bart Simpsons, the Darth Vaders, the Stormtroopers, Spidermen and Chewbaccas everywhere.
Get rid of them and bring on more naked. After all, it's not Disneyland, it's Vegas baby, yeah!!!

A few years ago when I was staying at the Freemont I had to tolerate the bucket bangers until 2:00am on morning. I could hear that crap from my room all night. I wasn't too pleased to say the least.

This fight between Vegas and beggars has been going on for a long time. Every time the government tries to put a lid on it they are sued or threatened to be sued based on freedom of speech rights. I do not want anyone to diminish my rights to free speech so I tolerate craziness veiled as free speech. The compromise of putting beggars (because that is what they are) in circles so they would stop molesting people trying to walk was genius. Everyone deserves a soapbox to orate from. I looked into the law and there are stipulations for decibel levels, and minors working the street. They are not being enforced. I stopped playing at 4 Queens bar by the door when I was overwhelmed by a bucket drummer 20 feet away from me. I told the bartender and later emailed their corporate I will not play there when drumming or amplified singing is happening. If the casinos felt the beggars are a detriment to business they might force changes.

I do not want to limit anyone's freedom but let's all play by rules and not subject tourists to broken ear drums and use children to beg.

BTW they get "tips" because every day there is a new batch of suckers on Fremont St who have not seen the Circus.

“Broken ear drums”... Really? Why do the people who tip have to be labeled “a new batch of suckers”?

Perhaps... not all downtown visitors are as annoyed as most posters in this thread would have one believe.

I like them a lot better than the characters that harass you.

Where are those posters claiming that all other downtown visitors are annoyed as they are? Can you show me the quotes? All the posts I see are where the poster posts their opinion, and I see nothing about them saying that all downtown visitors agree with them, nor do I see them posting anything about what they would have us "believe". All I see are people posting their opinions. Where are they saying what you are claiming?

Let's remember that it's possible to disagree without being disagreeable. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if you vehemently disagree with it.

Hmmmm ... I guess it's like the percussion equivalent of walking into a karaoke bar totally sober! :)

The bucket bangers are indeed annoying... but I just walk past them & shake my head... I do feel for the bar-top players at 4-Queens.
One thing that I've noticed that seems relatively "new" is that, east of the canopy, on Fremont, there seems to frequently be 2 or 3 guys just hanging out at the street corners, right in front of the crosswalks.
I haven't had any issues with any of them, but I could see how that visual could be intimidating to some.
I would like to think that the bike-cops on Fremont might enforce loitering laws with these guys...probably too much to hope for, though.

Thanks for letting me know her name. I checked out her drum bio & she's not a bum- drummer that a lot here hate.
I'll be looking for her again when I'm there in May. Raylene ROCKS!!!

She wants to be a professional drummer from what I understand.

I never get approached by timeshare vultures or street people for money. I'm starting to get a complex.

Live and let live. None of this truly bothers me...just people trying to earn a buck.
