Safe to walk from Wynn to Binions?

We are headed to Vegas in a few months and are staying at the wynn and want to visit downtown / binions. Me and GF are runners and very active. Are we safe to walk there during the day? Uber back at night? Side note, any good places to run outside in vegas?

 

Day time in a group would be ok. Very long walk. Night time no

 

"Few months"? Biggest danger...heat stroke!

 

Safe during the day, and night would not recommend. The walk is longer than it seems.

 

We are doing rim to rim to rim grand canyon over two days at the start of the trip. Not too concerned about heat stroke if we survive that. We walked to the movie theater south of downtown last year and it was only but a lot of homeless out. We love to walk. Ran to the orleans and gold coast from Park MGM twice last year. Just wanted to make sure the consensus was still safe during the day

 

I walk a lot when I'm in Vegas. I don't mind waking far distances. I'm only in a vehicle to go between airport and hotel... I won't walk to Fremont either. I'll take the Deuce. Not because I'm afraid of the distances, but that distance just takes away from too much Vegas time. Not a lot to see or explore between Wynn and Fremont. Walking the strip among the resorts you're still getting the Vegas experience and I feel you lose that after a certain point on the north end of the strip.

 

A lot of people run on the strip just after sunrise when it's not crowded and still (sort of) cool. Helps you sweat out the bad ideas you had the night before. Just watch the left turning lanes into the hotels from the strip. You never see them coming.

 

I do my running early for a number of reasons but the main one is the lack of others out.

 

Summerlin. Almost everything is striped for bike lanes, there are good sidewalks and there is a network -- not sure of connectivity -- of grade-separated multi-use paths.

 

I've walked several times downtown with a friend when staying at the Stratosphere . During the day there will be zero issues. The area used to get a bad rap all together but it has gone more commercial along that route in recent years and I'd say even at night with a male companion there won't be an issue. As mentioned, it is a longer walk that it appears on a map. Personally, I'd spend the $5 or $6 and get on the bus.

 

Never had an issue walking anywhere in Vegas, day or night, downtown to Wynn or anywhere else. Can hit Peppermill, Luv It Custard (near Strip and Strat), Able Baker or HopNuts (Arts District on Main Street) along the way.

 

Walk the strip at least you are checking out the hotels/casinos.
I believe it is 3-4 miles to downtown which is what about an hour or so of walking.
To each is own but to me spending all that time walking in a sketchy area with no views of interest is a waste of ones vacation.

 

We walked from the strip to downtown a few yeara ago during the morning/mid-day, just because... Stopped at the Gold & Pawn shop on the way. A lot of wedding chapels along the way, but not very scenic otherwise. Had no issues, saw very few people.
The only place I've had a "Spidey Sense" feeling was at night between Sahara and Circus Circus.

 

My buddy walked from MGM Grand to Fremont to cash in a ticket voucher for 1.50. He was flat out broke. It was 115 out. He got serious sun burn from it. And he walked back too.

We had a van. And we could have dropped him off if he had asked. And... We ended up going back there after he got back, lol.

 

I'll agree -- wouldn't do it at night, for the same reason that I wouldn't walk in many places in a small group at night. It's not a "bad area", per se, but it's dark and there aren't a lot of people around. And as mentioned, it's definitely a reasonably long trip, though not horrible. It's basically a little less than the length of the Strip.

 

Agree with the others. That section is bad news bears at night, even if you're a 5-minute miler. I took a bus to the end of the first quarter or fifth of that section to get to the Sahara, and I was walking fast.

 

I wouldn't do that stretch in the day, not just danger, but it's just a barren wasteland and seems like a waste of time in terms of sightseeing. As others have said, if you're up early, there's a ton of runners on the Strip in the morning.

 

My then girlfriend and I did it once during daytime. In July. Woof. Thankfully it is now such a distant memory that I can't remember why we (I) wanted to do it. I do remember reading ahead of the trip to LV people here said that it was a longer walk than the map measured (in spirit). They were right. I can't say I regret it though now. Good to have done once to see the wedding chapels, the pawn shop, etc. Stopped at that gaming / collectible store. I wouldn't do it again, but definitely not a regret.

 

I walked from the Frontier to downtown in 1994. It was doable for a couple of 22 year olds, but I wouldn’t do it again today.

 

Safe? Yes. Would I recommend it? Only if you like walking, it's during the daytime, and it's not the summer months.
