Sorry Mods and Admins if this is in the wrong place...

Doing Reno, Lake Tahoe, Tonopah, and of course Las Vegas in October. Only doing a night in Reno, just booked a suite in The Eldorado.

Anyone of my fellow VMB'ers stayed there? Thoughts? Complaints? Criticisms?

    Thanks in advance kids....

    @Gino

My host of almost 30 years is there! I don't have any real feedback as I've been RFB there for about that long as well. I will say that I really like the "Player's Suite" - the large one. Super comfy 4-post bed and the room includes its very own ice machine! Also, I really love Silver Legacy's casino and it's right next door.

As far as criticisms - it's Reno - so there's that. lol

Good luck and at only being one night, I don't think you can go wrong there. I've done that car trip a few times and always enjoy my Tonopah stay. Not sure what it is about the place, but the quaintness touches something in me. Tahoe is gorgeous! That's why I chose it as the locale for my wedding 100 years ago. Okay, now you got me all nostalgic. I hope you do a trip report. It would be fun to read your observations.

Wife and I have stayed at the Eldorado or sister (adjoining) property the Silver Legacy numerous times. We go to Reno usually once a year (three or four times to Vegas each year) and always stay at one or the other. As tee says, it's Reno, so if you're expecting Vegas you may be disappointed. Reno is a big town, not a city like Las Vegas. The Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus share one huge complex ("The Block"). You can walk between them without ever going outside. That's a good thing
late at night since downtown Reno can be pretty sketchy (think downtown Las Vegas without the FSE or crowds). Personally I enjoy the post-apocalyptic vibe of wandering around downtown, but more so during the day than late at night.

As far as the properties go, we've never been disappointed. Good pay tables on VP, low limits on table games (though they lack a lot of the carny games Vegas has, like High Card Flush), friendly and attentive servers, great beer selection and decent booze if playing at the bars. Comps are also generous compared to Vegas. Both the Eldorado and Silver Legacy have newly remodeled rooms available for a few bucks more if you want the latest and greatest.

Yeah, besides being correct, "The Row" definitely sounds a lot better than "The Block." We're at the Silver Legacy for five nights starting Thursday next week. They're comping us through Sunday (Super Bowl weekend), plus some food and free play credit. Much better comps than Vegas, where we get almost nothing any longer with more play.

We are taking one last Harrahs Hurrah the first weekend in May, as Eldorado is closing Harrahs at the end of summer.

There is a separate thread on how the potential Caesars Rewards program and any tiers/points/comps will transfer over to the three Eldorado properties. Only time will tell.

    I guess I'll reveal that I hold a grudge

16 years ago or so, I was going to Reno monthly. Only a few hours drive from SF Bay, it was an easy budget getaway. Paying, low roller, Id be happy earning $5, $10, $20 in credit/comps. Discovered and enjoyed Eldorado. Would book at $29 to $59 a night, often got an upgraded room. Loved one room type with a giant tub in the main room, and a big TV that came up out of a cabinet at touch of a remote.

One visit played, checking out, asked "trainee" at front desk to apply whatever Id earned against room. It was about $11. A little overwhelmed by the computer, the trainee applied my comp credits against each night on the folio..$11 against night one, $11 against night two.... i pointed out the error, but she insisted she was right. I shrugged and moved on.

Returned 1-2 months later. Got a really snotty unhelpful guy at check-in, claimed to have no info on room features. No upgrades available. Having been in many rooms, I asked "does that room have a sofa?" only because I wanted a place to relax, read, etc.... and some older rooms were really tiny. His answer "some do, some don't". After some back and forth, rolled eyes, heavy sighs, and repeated "some do, some don't " he opened a massive binder that was sitting right next to him, looked through it, and told me room had a small sofa. The room sucked, old, one double bed, a love seat.

Went to play, put my players card in the players card reader ... early version of kiosk that revealed one line of l.e.d. info... it said see players club.

At the players club, a very polite but intractable representative asked me all kinds of questions.
    • Were you ever invited here on a tournament, then didnt play?
    • Did a host or pitboss buy you dinner?
    • Were you invited to a promotion or event?
And similar. I assured her nothing like that ever happened.

After a few minutes of this, she explained I had a negative points balance. Insisted I'd done something to cause it, gotten more than I earned. I responded I didnt know how it happened, then remembered the trainee at checkout. She told me that was impossible. Couldnt happen. Furthermore, my play would be counted against the deficit.

I remember being incredulous " are you telling me that, for a reason you cant identify, my play this visit will start by reducing my negative balance? I'll get nothing? She responded affirmatively as if it was entirely logical. And then I said "why would I even play here? I'll just play next door at Silver Legacy. " which seemed to surprise her.

I played at Silver Legacy, next morning decided to leave after only one night. Couldnt check out on TV. Went to the desk and got the snotty guy again who explained no TV checkouts if its earlier than reserved. Noticed he was a manager based on his ID badge. I wrote a long letter to Eldorado, never received a reply, hypothesized that as manager, he probably got the letter.

Vowed to never return to Eldorado, and haven't. Only been to Reno once or twice in those years; prefer Tahoe anyway, and CA tribal gaming took off in the subsequent years. But, I still remember. Not proud of it... feel a little petty that I recall the details years later, but I'll always have a grudge against Eldorado, mostly for the stupidity that somehow, a players account would unexplainedly go negative, and they expect play to offset the deficit.

@ReTriggerMe I'd remember that too and feel that same way.

@Gino I've stayed in regular rooms at Eldorado. They were good but nothing special. Only complaint was when I stayed in a smoking room and they guy next door was smoking pot all night. Hated the smell. I enjoy their casino and the fact that they're connected with Silver Legacy and Circus Circus, especially in winter time. One stupid thing from a couple years ago...I'm a diet Coke snob and they only served Pepsi in the casino which made my Jack & diet taste like bad rum and Tab. I hope you do a TR.

I haven't been to Reno in 21 years (I used to live in Fallon). It was post-apocalyptic then.

Hubby and I went to Lake Tahoe 12/29 and then moved to the Silver Legacy on 1/1, flying home on 1/2. We’re comped in Vegas, but never in Reno - no idea why, except maybe our visits are too few and far between? Definitely try Roxy’s (at El Do) for dinner - they have the most amazing bacon/cheddar bread. Their bar, also Roxy’s has over 100 martinis and I think they have a special on them. Our fave VP bar is technically in the SL, and it’s called Drinx. Good VP odds, great service and if you’re there on a weekend, you can meet George, who I think is Scottish - nicest bartender ever! We found the available eating options for lunch lacking between all 3 properties and ended up with a great burger at the Reno airport. If you love burgers, walk over to The Nugget and check out the ‘awful, awful’ - it’s huge and comes with a pound of fries or something crazy! Enjoy!

And if staying anywhere in "The Row," don't be tempted to go across the street to the McDonalds. It's the hard core reality of the drug abusing, mentally ill, and wandering homeless. I tend to miss the obvious sometimes. But a couple of years ago when I suggested we go there for breakfast my wife pleaded with me to look around inside and promise I'd never ask again. I'd never been put off by it until I finally paid attention.

In the 1980s, this was my place. $10-$20 blackjack got me all sorts of comped rooms. It was a happening place. I stayed there two years ago. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice property, but in my eyes a shadow of it's former self. Then again, so is Reno.

My last stay at the Eldorado was about 3 yrs ago. I have a review with photos posted in my personal blog, if you're interested. I was in one of their Deluxe Queen rooms which was fine. It was also comped so I can't complain. I think they have done some remodeling since my last stay, so the renovated rooms are probably much nicer now. I normally stay at the Peppermill, but they didn't have openings for my entire trip. If Eldorado's One Club migrates to Caesars Rewards, I'll probably start staying there more often in the future.

I've also been hearing some nice things about the Grand Sierra (they also own the new Sahara in Vegas) and thought about staying there, but it's hard to pass up free room offers when I would have to pay at the Grand Sierra. LOL

Look closely, and you might find both of us in the Visit Reno forums.

They're not quite as happening as the VMB, though. I wonder why that is...

The El Dorado has a nice private bar for gold plus and higher card members. Great Carusso wine. Grab a wine before dinner
