I play a lot and there are times when I just ask the dealer what the book says as well. I’ve never had a hard time getting advice from them, particularly when betting a tip for them every so often. All the advice people have given has been very solid. The fact that you learned good basic strategy through a trainer and were conscientious enough to come on here and seek advice tells me you will be a very good “teammate” that will be a welcome addition to any BJ table that isn’t occupied by jerks. Have fun and I hope you win some money!

The only hard-time you may get is asking where the $5 3:2 tables are on the strip...

My advice is just to be consistent...its the player that hits the 16 one hand and doesn't the next, and I know he is too drunk to be counting cards...

I would say, don't worry too much about other people at the table giving you crap for your play. In my experience it doesn't happen very often, and when it does, best is to just ignore it. Or if it's really bad you can just find another table. But really, it has been rare. As others have mentioned, if you're really worried about it, just don't sit down at 3rd base.

Agreed completely. That said, you can't completely avoid it even with perfect play, because some people don't know basic strategy as well as they think they do. See, for example, the guy who strongly believed that you should always split 10s, or the guy who got annoyed at me for hitting a 12 against a dealer 2. But as everyone has said, it's your money.

If anyone ever gives me shit at the tables for a move that doesn't pan out, my move is to laugh and excitedly say "I know, I'm horrible at this!"

Most get flustered (because they're actually wanting to argue), some get stunned into silence, some pack up and leave. Either way it's a win-win-win.

Sometimes I'll even passive-aggressively pile on and make a purposely bad decision shortly thereafter if I have a low bet out.

I find that those who give shit at a table typically felt quicker than those of us who keep quiet, deep down I get a good laugh inside when some know it all loses his money in quick fashion after harassing other players.

    Have a great time!

I saw multiple times new or not-so-new players were bullied by other players and even dealers at tables in Vegas.

    Happens to me everytime.

And if you are playing at a 5$ table, most likey the players aren't going to know perfect basic strategy.

Even at 25$ i never seen anyone thats knows it perfect.

Every once in a while, you'll get a player, who doesn't know or understand basic strategy, who might give you a little grief about following basic strategy, such as hitting a soft 18 against a face card. I always just say that I'm following the basic strategy for the game, which provides for the best chance of winning in the long run. At the end of the day, it's your money, so you can play how you want. I've seen some crazy decisions at the table before, like standing on a soft 16, splitting tens against a 10, etc. Just play how you want, have fun even if you are not winning, be nice to the dealer, and if you are not having fun, then go to a different table. Hope you have a great trip.

I always used to seek out 3rd base and have gotten numerous compliments about my play.

Yeah, and everyone just loves it when you hit a 5 card 16 and draw a face.

If the dealer is experienced, knows your game, you are tipping and you are on 3rd base, they will slightly raise an eyebrow or hesitate a beat if you're about to do something wrong. There is less and less of that these days as the new class of dealer lacks the subtlety of thinking to be aware of what's going on. They are just robots going through the motions. Look for a mature dealer, if you can.

Second to everything above. You will get more grief from players making proper basic strat plays than you will doing things like sticking on a 12 against a 10 upcard. Also, if you are worried about other players, the El Cortez has 3-2 video blackjack with great that gives full slotclub points. I don't play there anymore, but if I did, I would be giving all my BJ action to that machine. Annoying ploppies in Vegas, combined with rules considerations, are the main reason I mostly play blackjack in Macau now. The language difference means people can't bother me. (I actually speak Chinese, but other other players don't need to know that!) :p

They actually have a 3-2 BJ at Elco? What's the catch? I thought they were usually 1-1
