    Good morning-

My Dad and I have been going to Vegas around my birthday ever since I turned 21, will be 39 now (ugh), so you can do the math on the trips. We used to stay on the strip, usually at the Flamingo due to location, and then would take a day trip downtown. We've found we are really enjoying the downtown gambling better, love the 4Q, and the past few years would stay at the nugget comped. We didn't play enough at the nugget, (surprising I know) last year, so we're looking for a new place downtown to stay.

We wandered over to the DTG, and it was there I hit my first royal ever last year! I was doing some quick reading and noticed they don't do much for VP players, but we play a variety of slots, VP and my favorite, video keno. I enjoyed playing at the DTG, so def planning on playing there.

With that said, what would you all recommend for a place to sleep? At the Flamingo, we would always have Go Rooms with a view of the strip, but I know those have gotten older (like me), over time. We don't need a suite, just something that is clean, and ideally has a fridge in the room. We would probably spend most of our time at the 4Q, DTG, Fitz (sorry the D). We had one night at the 4Q last year, and those rooms seemed a little odd to me. Again, just a place to lay your head, but also a place to relax for a bit. We've been on the side of the nugget facing fremont and haven't ever really had a noise problem, (probably due to the beverage consumption).

Again would appreciate any input, I love the strip, but the gambling usually isn't too good to us there.

    Thanks!

If your level of play in the past (before last year) got you comped at the Nugget, the same level of play will most likely get you comped on the back end at any of the other places downtown. We've mostly been at the Boyd places, but based on other replies here on VMB the Plaza has some good games and is fairly good about comping you. I think there is still a host still here on VMB. We have only stayed a couple of days at the Grand, so don't know anything about their comp policies, but the room was nice. If this is going to be a continuing trip in the future, you might want to play and stay at the D and GG to build up some goodwill for Circa starting next year.

I've stayed at the Nugget, 4Q, Main Street, Fremont, and the D. All were fine--clean (if dated in some cases). For best VP, MSS, the D and 4Q are best in my opinion.

Unless you wish to upgrade to a suite don’t stay at the Golden Gate as with swamp coolers and noise not worth it. The D has clean room but can be noisy at times. The Plaza is pretty good and close enough to the Four Queens. Main Street Station and El Cortez little further out but would meet clean standard rooms definition easily IMO. Be aware the music since the revamp of the light show has been turned up according to press articles and personal experience.

The newly remodeled Tower rooms at the El Cortez are really nice. If you're looking for a view you want a higher floor odd numbered room. However, those rooms will be noisier as you get the residual noise from bars on Fremont.

Even number rooms face North and aren't as noisy but really all you see is Jerry's Nugget and maybe Neon museum.

DTG has been my hotel preference for the last few years. The rooms just feel a bit more modern/updated than the Boyd properties (I've stayed at all 3 multiple times, tho not a renovated Cal room) or the D.

A couple of small things I like are free WiFi and a surprisingly large number of TV channels, all in HD. Certainly not must-haves, but a nice tiebreaker for me at least.

Noise can be an issue in the Casino Tower, as one side catches noise from the FSE stage and the other side gets noise from Gold Spike. The west-facing rooms of the Grand Tower are quiet, but I don't like having to go up the escalator and across the pedestrian bridge to get to the tower.

No fridges in the room however.

Main street station has a refrigerator in the room but is a bit of a walk to Fremont street, pretty small bathrooms as well, but I like the video poker there,

I would ping Gary Vickery at Plaza, who posts here quite a bit. I’m sure he can set you up with a room with a fridge that will work for you.

DTG also has some nice suites that are reasonably priced, although I think they tend to have one real bed? Same with suites at the D, and 4Q.

I think these options are generally going to cost you about the same as a GO room at Flamingo.

Current reports are that fridges are gone in the MSS rooms, unless you ask for one for medical needs. Not sure how they would police that. Pretty stupid, if you ask me.

Find a location you like with games restaurants etc. you like and go for it. Chances are most any joint not named Golden Nugget will work for you. I like MSS with decent VP. The skybridge to the Cal gives you numerous food options and more gaming. Both properties have a fridge in the room. You shouldn't have much trouble finding a replacement.

With how close it was, I got some of my best nights sleep at El Cortez. Their remodeled rooms are A+.
The Cal and MSS waives resort fees on comped rooms which is a nice sell for me.
    ElCor for rooms though...

I’ve never picked a property based on a room, always based on casino and comps. I’ve stayed in Golden Nugget rooms(they’re nice) and vintage rooms at El Cortez (they’re kind of like the hospital rooms from ‘The English Patient’ movie.) But I don’t want to gamble at Golden Nugget, so I can deal with a cot. I’d go 4Q if you’re not afraid of room noise, DTG if you are, and El Cortez if you’re just committed to gambling.

California is recently remodeled...pretty sure they have a fridge in room as well. Short walk over to MSS, still short walk to Fremont.

The Boyd hate is strong, understandably for VP only players, but we just got back from the Cal, and the employees/clientele at both there and MSS just reminded me why we stay and play so much there.
So much so we'll probably be staying there even if we got Circa offers.. though double booking is always a possibility..

We play mainly at MSS, but designated Cal as our preferred property, so we stay there.
The west tower premium rooms are quite nice, and we like the decor. (There's a fridge and safe, but no coffeemaker)
All the food options are pretty damn great, a lot of variety, esp combined w. MSS 777, which you can charge to your Cal room and use Food Comps for.

I'd wager we played enough this 3 night trip to hit sapphire from 0..
(correction: 1410/750, this is with P hammering $ slots, YMMV)

+1 on this. The walk from the far end of Fremont to ElCo can be an annoyance for some people.

The GG suites are nice if you can get a deal (their full price during the week is a bit steep).

Although I’ve never stayed at the Cal, it’s a nice property and I’d like to stay there sometime. I like the refresh they did of the property and the room rates are always around $30 or so for mid week when I check the website, Cant go wrong with that.

There's really no wrong answer downtown location-wise. I would also put out that Binion's has some of the newest and cheapest rooms on Fremont St. From what I have read, they are pretty bare bones though.
