They still give us the option in Florida to go to the county tax collector’s brick and mortar place and renew there. Not sure if you get the Real ID, upon renewal, that day or if they still have to mail it to you.

I was shocked when I got my Real ID back so soon.

IANAL, but I have lawyers in the family (not members of the Bar in NV, however) who have told me that legally in Nevada, you are not required to actually carry ID unless you are driving. They say that Nevada is one of the states where the "Stop and identify" law can be satisfied by honestly stating your name and address, and answering in good faith any follow-up questions. I will, indeed, sometimes leave my DL and PP in the room, in the event of a loss or purse snatch.

That's if I am not driving, of course. :)

Now as far as proof of age when buying EtOH or dealing with a door goon is a different thing! :) :) YMMV! :) :)

This TSA page has some applicable information:

    https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification

Also, as someone previously mentioned, there is an identity verification process that may allow you to fly without an ID.

As far as getting around Las Vegas and gambling/drinking/etc, I think it will be hit or miss.

I renewed mine in October and went from a non compliant ID that was going to expire in December to a real ID compliant one and left with it in hand. I did have a real ID compliant passport on me when I did so to verify identity. This was at the local tax collector's office which is in the ground floor of Florida HSMV headquarters, but they had the machine to print it right there. I wasnt even there to renew my license; I was just transferring a boat title and the lady said hey your license is about to expire do you want to renew it while you're here?

You can go in and collect a real ID in Florida as I just did that in 2019 at a branch DMV office. They took the photo and printed the card as I stood at the counter.

Agree with this statement.. TSA will let you fly. Do you have a passport? That will work if you have one.

My wife lost her ID one year but we did not realize it till we got to the airport for our Vegas flight.

Flying and TSA are not a problem, just ask for a supervisor when you get there (they will have double stripes on their shoulders) she will need additional screening but nothing crazy so plan to arrive with additional time.

Upon arrival to our hotel In Vegas we spoke to our host and she said it wouldn’t be an issue due to previous trips and they knowing she was of age. (We were In our late 20’s during this trip) I have heard of casinos that have issued a special plastic wrist band from security once age is verified that signifies you have been checked so that you are not asked all the time, however all casinos have different policies so I would maybe call in advance and see what your options are.

I am a lawyer, but not your lawyer, and while you're not legally required to carry ID, a casino can show you the door for any reason they'd like as long as it's not a legally-protected reason. The police can't arrest you, but a casino is absolutely free to tell you that you can't gamble, drink, or loiter on their property.

This will be a real PITA if she is young enough to get carded a lot...the security guys will likely reject the paper/temporary ID in many cases...having the host at your home property who can positively identify you might help get some sort of wrist band...that sounds like a good strategy to start.

You are definitely going to need an ID. My cousin with an expired ID was asked to move away from the table just as she was watching me play.

I ordered a replacement license online, maybe they have an option for expedited service?

I live in the southwest burbs of Chicago. My license was just renewed a few months ago. It was mailed to me. I was told it would take about 7-10 days. I received it in about 4 or 5 days. Last month my wife's license expired and was told the new one would be 7-10 days and she received it in about 5 days.If she goes tomorrow, you should still have time to receive it. When my kids were in their 20's they were carded everywhere. Good luck with TSA, checking in to the hotel, & drinking without what they call a proper ID. It could be a problem on a busy superbowl weekend. I'm pulling for you.

    Good luck

As has been stated over and over, TSA will not be the problem.

Ugh, I just found out I'm going to have a similar problem later this month. Thankfully, I do have my expired Driver's License and a paper interim license from CA, but apparently the post office mis-delivered my new Driver's License. Since my neighbors seem to lack common courtesy and didn't bother bringing it to me, it got sent back to Sacramento where it was shredded. Now I get to start the process all over again, and it'll be down to the wire whether or not I get my new ID in time.

Of course, the real joy is that I get to go back to the DMV tomorrow morning. That's always a pleasant way to start the day.

Up until last year, my state issued them at the DMV when you went in, basically took five minutes to print after your long wait. But with the new REAL ID ACT, the feds require the states to print the ID at a secure facility not open to the public and in person pick up is not possible at all.

I didn't read all the replies, and I'm not in my 20's but this was my experience, but this was 5 or 6 years ago:

    • I dropped my DL somewhere between the airport parking garage and TSA on the way to Vegas.
    • I had wired all my gambling money to the casino.
    • I had lots of other ID, but only one with a pic (an office building ID).
    • TSA guy said you can get on the plane (I found out later why).
    • I didn't believe him, so I:
      • Drove an hour home
      • With only minutes to spare, rescheduled my flight for 4 hours later (thank you Southwest, although now you suck)
      • Waited in line with all the degens who got speeding tickets over the weekend (it was a Monday) to get their licenses back
      • Got a paper license with my pic but NOT VALID FOR IDENTIFICATION stamped on it
      • Drove back to the airport. no problem getting through TSA
      • No problems in Vegas, even at the casino cage.
      • Won $12,000 on a slot machine
      • Had my "real" replacement UPS'd to me halfway through the trip
      • Airport called me before I got home and said they'd found the original and I could pick it up when I got back

What I found out later on a subsequent flight from LAS to LAX to visit a friend for lunch, and something on my pants apparently sent off some explosive detection wand, is that TSA can bring you into this little closed off cubicle and grill you about enough shit to match their database until they're satisfied.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread as we just returned last night...

I had zero issues using my paper temporary ID. They did ask to see my expired license however, probably because it was easier for them to swipe and bring up my information. The only pain was retrieving it from my wallet every time I was asked for ID (which happens several times a day).

Thankfully my replacement license with REAL ID arrived in the mail while we were gone. One less thing taking up room in my wallet. I tried to look angry when they re-took my photo, but I don't think I was quite as mad as the first time (when they didn't accept my out of state birth certificate because...well, DMV).
