Breeze's post on the demise of low-roller table games got me to thinking to ask about folks observations of grandfathering (allowing you to play for the table minimum when you started playing, even if they raise the minimum while you are there) at table games these days. It seemed in the past that grandfathering never happened in Atlantic City, but was fairly common in Las Vegas. Does it still happen in LV, or is that something else that has gone away? Thanks in advance for your insight.

I haven't had a Caesars property grandfather me in a long time. They've just raised the minimum and said that's where it was for everyone.

Matter of fact, they pulled this on a $10 pai gow table of us at PHo and we all just got up and left the $15 table empty.

    I've never had a problem.
On one of my first trips I was playing $5 blackjack at the Hilton when this guy sits down and asksto raise the minimum to $100. I was ready to leave and was told I was grandfathered . First time I heard about it being the country bumpkin.

To make a long story short the guy that asked for the limit raise would give a green every so often to keep playing.
When I got ready to leave to go meet a buddy, I pushed 2 greens toward him and he said keep it kid.
Next day I asked about the guy and the pit boss said he was a very very rich and would often leave the dealer a tip in the hundreds.....

Playing at the low-limit joints I usually play at, I'm afraid I can't add much in the way of firsthand experience of playing at a table and having the minimum increased.

What I can add, is that at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls in August I did notice one player at a $25 to $500 table who was betting $15 and she had a lammer that said "$15 to $300" positioned next to her spot at the table.

I've never seen this anywhere... but that suggests to me that it is still done, and that it's a courtesy extended in a bit more of a "formal" way compared to the pit boss simply authorizing it verbally.

We were walking around a few years ago inside TI and wanted to play craps at $5. But they were all empty at 10 or 15. One of the stickmen said hed let us play for $5 and shortly after a few others game and he made them play at the higher rate but kept us low. Good for them because nobody wanted to play on an empty table until we started up. And they only had 2 people betting $5.

Grandfathering is still alive and well, in my experience.

I’ve been grandfathered on craps tables at Wynncore and Cosmo fairly recently.

Dad and I were also grandfathered on a craps table at Borgata in October.

It was common enough in my 25 years of Vegas experience that I was surprised when my local would not do it at the Craps table. Hasn’t come up for me much lately, Downtown it’s almost always five unless it’s ten.

Southpoint still does it at $5 and $10 minimum BJ tables that I played back in March.

Most places I have been to in vegas grandfather you until you leave the table.

Planet Hollywood was the only place that gave me a time limit of "you can play at the old limits until the top of the hour (20 min)" at that point the 4 people at the table all got up and the table was empty for at least the next 30 min (after that I left the casino to find a table limit in my comfort zone)

The last time my husband and I were in vegas (August) we had no problem being grandfathered at the table we were playing at. This was downtown but our trips prior it also happened and that was playing on the strip

Had it at MGM Grand a few years back when they had $5 6:5 early morning and I was super-low rolling and just wanted some blackjack time. Table upped to $10 and grandfathered in, much to the continued annoyance of a couple of a-holes who joined after the raise. I kept playing and threw in a few $5 dealer tips on my hand just to really annoy them.

Flamingo and Bally's I can speak for. Playing into the late afternoon early evening the table min often raise. Generally speaking its during a shuffle or right after one. Pit boss will announce that we can play out the rest of the shoe at the lower minimum. I've never sat at a 10$ table and had the limit raised and been told I need to start playing the very next hand at 15 or 25$. They should at least let you finish out the shoe.

There has been one occasion at Flamingo where i was playing 5$ min at a 15$ table for like 3 hrs lol! I was tipping dealers. When they switched there always like " big john 1st base at 5 till boss says no" that's only happened one time to me. I made some money too maybe a couple hundred. It also pays to be nice. Your kindness can go a long way. Besides you don't wanna sit there and play if your all grumpy.

This was all last year. I'm pretty sure it's all still relevant.

Can't recall where, but heard my first two "No grandfathering when we raise the limits up" for the first two times somewhat recently...
(warm up the torches and grab the pitchforks!)
Forgot where, probably quick strip drive bys, I definitely didn't stay. (well maybe another roll or two)
I guess probably CET, definitely not downtown..

My experience for craps is MLife properties have always grandfathered people when they raise the minimum. It has been awhile, but my past experience for CET properties is they never grandfathered beyond letting the change occur with the shooter change.

having played tables almost exclusively at CET over Christmas, every table suit said that when the mins went up it was "for new players only"....granted it wasn't BJ but it was every other game during a holiday season

I have never seen someone not grandfathered at any MLife craps table.
Not sure about BJ as I can’t recall table mins being raised when I am playing BJ.
