Victory Java Cask Coffee Bourbon Stout, 14.3% ABV. I thought last year’s version was better, this one seems to have a very forward alcohol taste, not too sweet, not too much coffee flavor. Also had the Java Cask Gold Rye, 12.4% ABV. A little lighter in color, a bit sweeter.

I'm going to shake up a vodka martini then open a bottle of Mateo 2014 Pinot Noir. Fajitas for dinner.

We pulled this out last night:

    LKYZMe%QS%2sE5hOpTKLtw.jpg

It hit us that we moved to that area more than eight years ago and as such have a lot of Pinots that by CA standards are right about as good as they are going to get. (We have had some number that already have gone round the bend.) We've had various wines from the region that went 15 years, some longer, but older is not by default better with every wine, even with many well-crafted wines.

HB had -- John and Christine have shuttered the operation, sadly -- four vineyard-designate Pinots and a blend. Sky is the most Burgundian of the lot, with good acid, lighter body and not an over-Californication of fruit (and I have nothing against bigger-fruit Pinots, I just don't want every wine pushed to the limit in every instance, regardless grape). This poured as well as anything I've had from the SRHs, be it Sanford or Brewer-Clifton or -- be gone, ye blasphemer -- Seasmoke. We're still well stocked in a relative sense -- I'm guessing 50 bottles of Pinot and three cases of Chardonnay from HB. I tend to drink more of the Chardonnay than Terri because in most cases Christine opted for a Burgudian end, and that's not exactly in Terri's wheelhouse. There never will be more HB, which is sad, so it's time to start enjoying the fruits of their labors; nothing lasts forever.

Plain old Coke right now, waiting to board my flight to Vegas. Saving the stronger stuff until then :)

Must be nice. 1669 unique beers on my Untappd app. But no Pliny. Yet.

My 1669th beer will be The Anti-Pliny.

I am drinking Natty Daddy. Natural Light with less water and MUCH cheaper. $3.98+tax for 6 pints. (8%; 3.75 sips) as value does factor in my rating. The McDonald's value menu of beers!

    Photo links are broken, Whiskey.

I'll probably pull out a wine we picked up during last weekend's trip to the Sierra foothills. But I'll put a base down -- never drink without a base -- with a Tito's martini. ;)
