Why does the Luxor get a bad rap?

I don't have a particular beef with Luxor but it is not hard to see how it gets it rep.

Some don't like the theme, and the pyramid has not aged well. Some are still bitter how much of the theming was undone making something unique seem generic inside. The pyramid rooms by all reports are a bit of a gong show. The location is further south than many people like. The price point is below all MLIFE places but Excal and Circus Circus, which affects quality perception.

And to top it all off, there really isn't much in the way of destination entertainment or dining. I mean, Carrot Top is in a way iconic and even people who expect to hate it say they enjoy the show, but it is also kind of a background thing. But when you're talking top steakhouses, or other dining suggestions, Luxor just does not come up.

And a a bonus, you can bypass it on your way to and from Mandalay Bay taking the tram.

None of this makes it bad, but it all affects how people see it. I've stayed in a Tower room once, and found it fine apart from the comically low mount point of the shower heads (apparently nobody on the planet is taller than 5'9)

Many reason I love the place, it's my "Vegas Home"... and yeah, I agree with Ken, the thought of de-theming the property was ridiculous, it's a f-n pyramid for God's sake!!!!

And if you thought you were close to death just think how much better it would be to pop out in front of TI and get your salvation. lol

Ends of the spectrum. We all often go to them to make a point. All equal? Sure, in concept that access might be a good thing. I wasn't all-equalling, however. I simply was saying that for us, it's never registers in the planning process. I put in scores and scores of hotel/rental nights every year, I've never once made that decision -- in Vegas or elsewhere -- on proximity to a convenience store. Different strokes.

In Vegas? Eleven, 12 days max. In Hawaii or elsewhere? Weeks.

Look, I just don't see all these CVSs lining the Strip as some major victory. I'm not taking a sword over any of this and we've often popped into a place to get something while traveling. I'm just not basing the sleep/play decision on Walgreens being out front.

It is our unofficial home. It was the first property we ever stayed at and it will always hold a special place in our heart. With that said we stay for a number of reasons, first we find the staff to be fantastic. From the front desk, housekeeping, CW, slot attendants etc. We've always been treated so well in any interaction. We also feel at home there. We kind of fit in. Can't really put my finger on it, but in other properties we just don't feel welcome. Take Aria as an example. Many people just love it there but we cannot stand the place. Almost every single interaction we've ever had with any staff member there has been negative. Snotty and rude is how I would describe them. I realize that that is only our opinion and many others have had the polar opposite.

We gamble almost exclusively at Lux whenever we stay there and always seem to have good luck there. Obviously that is a random thing but our coin in/out stats bear it out each year.

Room wise, we have only actually stayed in the pyramid once and it was in a corner suite which was a great room. We almost always stay in the tower (West tower being our choice) and just love the rooms there. Generally quiet, with a fridge etc.

It wouldn't be a trip to the motherland without a stay at Lux for us (evidenced by my countdown timer). To each their own but Lux works for us.

Luxor is always home base for us as well! Not the greatest but it works for us! Fat Tuesday is a short walk away! Food court is meh but that little deli hidden in the corner is awesome! Backstage Deli is the name but I could be wrong! I’ve once in the pyramid room and definitely prefer the tower room. Was upgrade twice to the 1 bedroom suite after two room moves(tv didn’t work and shower was not draining) in separate visits. Not bad at all! Coming in from self parking and entering the casino and smelling that scent tells me I’m home

We stayed at the Luxor for our first two visits to Vegas, so it still feels like "home" whenever we visit there. Have stayed there a few more times since then, but it has been a few years since our last stay. Prefer the pyramid rooms, since they are closer to the casino. Used to frequent this place much more before they messed up the BJ by making all of the lower limit tables 6:5! For the longest time, it was my favorite place to play BJ. The pit crew and dealers were always great, and just the general atmosphere of the casino was awesome! My favorite show in Vegas is still there (Carrot Top), and my favorite non-buffet restaurant for breakfast is the Pyramid Cafe, so we usually visit at least once every trip. Overall, the property in a bit "tired" and in need of some TLC, but that can be said for about 75-80% of the properties in Vegas.

More specifically, can anybody say how the Tower One Bedroom suite is (Not the Premium-one)? I have one of those as a comp in my stay later this year for three nights.

Matt Bridger reviewed this room last year and said he liked it, iirc.

    Found it -

I am staying in the tower one bedroom suite next month. Matt Bridger video made me confident in my decision.

Luxor was the first place I ever stayed in Vegas back in 2012. I've always liked the casino and the theming throughout. I have stayed in the base pyramid rooms, the pyramid corner suite, the tower room, and the tower premier suites and never had a bad room. I am interested in checking out some of the updated rooms, and I am keeping an eye on Luxor's prices for my trip in a couple of weeks.

I'm the type that just uses the room to sleep and shower. As long as it's clean, I'm good.
Yeah a nice room and view is nice, but not all that important to me.
I stayed in a pyramid room and it was just fine. I will say(and I know it's like swearing here to some) but I preferred the Excalibur rooms to the pyramid room.
Next stay at Luxor I will try the tower rooms.

For a long time Luxor was bad. My first stay in Las Vegas was a Luxor Pyramid room and it was worn, with evidence of water leaks. Had to put out towels to catch water from the shower. The service was just OK. I was still hooked on Las Vegas, but Imperial Palace was about the same, and it became my home base for a couple years due to price and, surprisingly, service.

I stayed at Luxor last year for the first time in a decade and the service was good. I was upgraded without asking to a Tower room, and my interactions with staff were great. Everyone was great to deal with.
