I've heard that casinos have added "speed bumps" to their craps tables to counter the "dice setters/controllers". Is this true?

Has anyone who's practiced dice control at a craps table been told to change the way you throw the dice by a casino employee?

Lastly, do you feel your dice control attempts have given you a slight advantage over the casino at the craps tables?

If possible, please share your stories/experiences.

I am a dice setter and have gotten some pretty good results, but it is certainly not a guaranteed win. On my last trip, I hit tons of 6's and 8's (which I always place).

The speed bumps are on the walls and you can see them everywhere.

I have never had the crew complain about my setting the dice, so long as it is fast and the dice hit the back wall.

I am not a believer in dice control, but always enjoy watching people do it as long as they keep the table going. I am a believer when its hitting LOL....It is even entertaining for the ones that have a setup they do everytime and then fling it down the table LOL. Looking forward to playing with you @duffer1991 in february!!

I think some dice setters do pretty good. I don't try it. My understanding is the the speed bumps are to prevent players from setting the dice to a number then scooting/sliding them down the table. I've never noticed speed bumps. You'd think you would see the dice hang up on them when the stickman moves the dice around, and this should wear out the felt.

edit to add, I thought a speed bump was a dowel under the felt to prevent sliding the dice.

I look forward to it too @cjcjcj . I only do dice control if I am right of the stickman/woman. I believe it when it works too. I have played about 40 sessions with a simple throw and I have had better results than when I just fling the dice. If it ain't broke... dont fix it :)

I say the same thing every time this topic comes up. If it worked, the casinos would not allow it...plain and simple.

The casinos don't care about setting the dice since there's no proven statistical advantage. That's what the pyramid shaped bumps along the walls are for. But @Ty is correct, the bumps to prevent sliding are under the felt, usually on each side of the middle bets. They are pretty easy to spot if are standing next to the stickman. And they do bump the dice when the stickman is moving them around, but it only makes the dice turn over, not really hang up. The bumps are very small, but sufficient to prevent sliding

There was a video I watched on youtube about a self-proclaimed "dice-setting" expert. It was ridiculous and overly-produced. My girlfriend said I should practice and be an expert so I would be rich too. I replied, "If he were such an expert, he would not be in a documentary. He would be at a high limit room craps table making millions."

You could only find ONE dice setting thread? Slacker! lol

But I don't care about another thread. Any talk about craps is okay by me.

I always try to get a spot next to the stick. I'm right handed, so I prefer being right of the stick, but they'll move back just a bit when I'm on their left. I can't see dice control having a chance at all from any other spot.

I don't know if it helps or not. But I know it doesn't hurt. And if it can work even 10% of the time then that is getting the game close to a break even game. I just hope that everyone keeps their "rituals" to a second or two. I've rolled my eyes more than once while waiting on a shooter to shoot.

I Googled "vintage craps table" to try and guess when the egg crate design became common. I saw some pretty old looking pictures WITH them. Were there ever just flat felt walls?

Sliding is a whole other discussion. It's cheating and illegal.

I prefer the dude in the corner with the spiral bound notebook, because then I know that the table is fair. But a dice setter is always welcome because they increase my average theoretical by reducing the actual decisions per hour.

My version of dice control: Toss them, hit the back wall.

There. You have successfully controlled the dice!

Toss them, fling them, overhand throw, they leave the table. Tsk. Tsk. You have not controlled the dice.

    I'm just poking fun.:D

I do set the dice. I try to throw consistently every time. Am I successful? No. Does it work? Sometimes.;) Is it fun? Hell, yes. ALL THE TIME!!:woohoo:

But also have recently tried the three V and had better throws thAn normal with the 2 V technique as well. I also noticed when i go in a rhythm it helps me as well.

When are you guys going to be throwing in town?
(looks like I'm going to miss you guys, I'm in the week after)

Everyone seems to be jumpy (see tipping threads) about the shutdown so lets play nice.

If I can decrease the chance of a seven I should be able to increase the chance of a seven. Until I see a “controller” playing the don’ts I won’t believe it works.

@Vegasismy2 I have the hard 6 touching at the corner of the "V" and the one and 5 facing me. I used to do the hard 8 but it did not seem to work as well.

@cjcjcj and @AyDee It is my routine and we can see how it goes on February 9, 2020.

I've never seen any true dice control in all the times I've played craps.

Personally, I roll with the 3's up point up, like this / \

I've rolled for an hour and I've 7's out on the first roll after the point - it doesn't matter. In my opinion the bet stick men are observant of how you roll and they push the dice to you already setup how you want them.
