Quiet rooms downtown? Isn't that any oxymoron?

I've never had a problem sleeping in Vegas.

It's just like everything else when you're there...

    When you're tired, you sleep.

    When you're hungry, you eat.

    When you're thirsty, you drink.

When you want to smoke, you smoke.

When you want to gamble, you gamble.

When you gotta take a dump, you dump.

When you need to be refreshed, you head to the pool.

When you want to see some naked, you go to Clark County.

When you need a laugh, you roll a green chip on the floor and watch what happens.

Sort of a Vegas version of the Beatitudes.

I will say that if I’m in Vegas and don’t fall asleep as soon as head hits pillow, I must be doing something wrong.

Me neither. Too hard to do. That's why I saved a couple of Vicodin's from my shoulder surgeries.
I break one in half if needed and my mind isn't thinking about going back down to the casino when I should be sleeping.

So envious of the lot of you that can sleep unaided or without issues. I'm an insomniac under the best of circumstances. I can't/won't take pills for sleep and I can't/don't drink so that's out. I've purchased a white noise machine and am going to hope for the best. I'm trying DTG in February for my birthday and will see how well this works there. I think I'm going to have an easier time when I return to the Plaza later in the month 25th floor, but I'll remain in my fav suite - so shrug.

A good night's sleep is a must. I simply can't function on all cylinders without at least 6 hours. Those bands sometimes drive me literally insane!

Stayed at the DTG a couple of weeks ago for three nights, casino tower, 17th floor facing east away from the elevators. No noise problem, and I'm noise sensitive. That's why, having stayed many places downtown and many times at the DTG, I requested what I just described (said "this tower, upper floor, facing east, away from elevator) when we checked in.

We've also stayed in the Carson Tower at the Golden Nugget numerous times facing south or west. Same thing - upper floor away from elevator. Noise hasn't been an issue other than the announcements over the loudspeaker at the jail across the street if you're facing south.

Been a few years since we stayed at the Plaza, but I've had relative quiet there asking for south tower, south facing, east side (away from railroad tracks), away from elevator.

The D - also been a few years, but I try for east side, south end, up and away from elevators. That's the opposite side from the FSE stage and away from Fremont. You'll still get some noise, but it's as quiet as it gets at the D.

Sounds picky, but I'm always polite and patient. The desk folks often seem impressed or amused that I know their property so well.

For the first time in 3 years I'm doing a short birthday trip to DTG. Can you share what room type? I'm getting just the Deluxe and would like a shower only with 2 beds...I've never ever stayed in their regular rooms before. (Always had a suite) Is it possible (do you think) to get my room type with the location you described? Thanks!

    Tee,

We had a deluxe room. It's worth the few extra bucks. Comfortably larger vs. the standard and two upholstered chairs. Had a suite there once. It was just two rooms (can't recall standard or deluxe) joined together, one as a bedroom and the other as a living room.

I think our deluxe room number earlier this month was 1715. They didn't have a deluxe room that met our request when we checked in around 2 pm and tried to give us an "inside" room high up. I declined, since you'll hear Hogs and Heifers and the Fremont stage next to The D no matter how high up you are if you are inside. They found one like we wanted that was being cleaned. We checked our bags, went to eat and play a bit and checked in a couple of hours later. You get a nice view to the east if you're higher up. Below (I'm guessing) about the 12th floor you'll be looking into the new building under construction in the parking lot. Construction noise wasn't an issue at all. Most of the building seems to be prefab, so not much on-site fabrication.

I'll be there Feb. It will be a very short trip with Hubs since it is a big birthday and I'll literally be there 14 days later lol.

That's the way you do it! I was just going to go at the end of Feb and stay at Plaza since they have Super Bingo during my birthday and you will NEVER see me during that event. Hubs said, "What do you mean you won't be in Vegas on your Day!" So, I find myself staying at the DTG for just 2.5 days to get the celebrating done. Birthdays are great excuses to spend gobs of money on yourself. :D:D:D:D Well, and I can't be bothered to cancel that end of Feb. trip so...2.5 days plus 4.5 means a whole week in Vegas in February! :drunk:Oh and Happy early Birthday @makikiboy !! Enjoy your celebrations!

I've never had an issue with noise at MSS, but hearing the occasional train doesn't bother me. Your mileage may vary.

I too am from the east coast and go to bed early and get up early while in Las Vegas. I have stayed at the Fremont and have asked for a quiet room on check in, and have never had a problem with noise. The beds are really comfortable too.

From what I understand the loudness of the music was increased with the recent revamping of light show. I know it seems at lot louder lately. As far as the El Cortez goes avoid rooms facing the praying mantis as the whoosh it makes going off is annoying to those wanting a quiet room but it also doesn’t go super late either. Truthfully if you want the kind of hotel room you catch up on your sleep I wouldn’t choose downtown. Circa is constructing 24 hours a day according to recent article. If you want quiet and value go to Palace. If you want to be close to downtown maybe The STRAT .

Downtown Grand has white noise machines in their rooms. It instantly blocked out all other noise. I slept forever.

Just fyi. I'm currently staying at mss. I can hear the construction noise when i sit near the window. Not as bad when i'm in bed though. Not running the a/c as too cold for it. Maybe run the heater?
