Thinking about giving this place a try. They get good reviews, have reasonable black jack rules and minimums. Pictures show a nice pool. Anything I should be aware of? Are comps fairly easy to get? We get 3 night offers from Boyd.

The pool is nice but it's small for Vegas, about the size of an apartment complex pool. I enjoy the Tuscany. It's laid back, rooms are nice and big, they have live music in the lounge, Marilyn's cafe is very affordable and offers coupons in most of the books and has excellent fried chicken, and it's good if you don't like a long walk from your room to your car. I can't speak to the comps because I don't gamble enough to be offered any.

Looks like you will be staying at Tuscany during pool season, midweek, and before family vacation season. Lounging by the pool would be quite relaxing and calm, relative to perhaps the pool complex at Mandalay Bay. Solid dining choices. The rooms are in smaller buildings behind the lobby and casino. The rooms are accessible from inside of the buildings (room key required to get into the building), and there are elevators inside the buildings. The time to travel from the farthest-back rooms to the casino/restaurants/lobby is about 5-8 minutes. Also, if you have a car during the trip, you can park (for free) right next to your building. Indeed, all of the rooms are spacious.

From the level of play you described in your last trip report, I estimate that your offers would be at least discounted nights anytime with no resort fee, plus a bit of FP and dining credit. Likely also 2-for-1 tickets to The Rat Pack is Back. Offers are sent quarterly (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec), and by snail mail only. Given the dates of your stay, you might barely see your first mailer at the beginning of July to cover that quarter. I made an entire extensive post about the Tuscany Rewards program because the casino has still not yet put the recent changes on their own web site. When you are there, be sure to ask for a new brochure at the player's club desk. Comp dollars are earned at a rate of 30% of theo (as the casino has set it for individual machines and tables) across all games in the casino.

In terms of the blackjack, I have never seen better rules on a red-chip table -- especially one that is $5 minimum almost all of the time. Up until a few months ago, they still offered surrender -- absolutely unheard of in Vegas these days on a red-chip table.

We stay at Tuscany Suites when we visit family. I love parking right outside the building. No need to walk through a smoky casino to get to your room. I like having a refrigerator and dining area. Our first stop is always a supermarket for soda, fruit and some type of breakfast bread. My only gripe is the slow housekeeping service. Sometimes we return to the room at 3 or 4 and it still hasn't been serviced.
EDIT: Got an email this morning from Tuscany Suites with a cyber sale offer if you book directly with the hotel.

I stayed at Tuscany the first time I ever went to Vegas, so it's been awhile.

My recollection is that the pool area is tiny.

The complex is basically a set of free-standing apartment buildings, that's obviously what it was originally intended to be. I thought it was potentially a little hinky walking from the casino back to whichever building you happened to be in late at night, because you have to walk outside to get to them. I never saw any security outside on foot or cruising the parking lots at night, but that may have changed. Don't remember ever seeing any specific complaints about it.

It's not any cheaper than the lower half of strip properties, but definitely smaller size, so I'd look at it as an alternative to the strip/downtown crowds, if that's what you're after.

we like staying there. the rooms are nice and large. we don't use the pool but it looks fine to me. they seem to get lots of travellers from Europe, etc who don't gamble. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant and it was nice. The brew pub has good food IMO. Marilyn's is ok if you just need a meal but everything seems kind of bland or unremarkable there to me. I did finally find something I like for breakfast - a chicken wrap.
Everyone is different. I see some people here saying they don't want to walk through a casino. we're the opposite. we want to go into the casino so we ask for a building that's closer to it. they won't guarantee it but will try to accommodate you.

The Tuscany is a hidden gem in Vegas, my go to place when I'm in town. The rooms are great and very clean, nice café with good food at good prices. The 365 bar offers a fantastic range of beers. It's a short walk from the Strip and in my experience it's very safe whatever time of day or night it is.

I agree except that I prefer the food at the bar. I've gotten the turkey burger with arrugula a few times and last time I think we got tacos. The food at Marilyn's always seems a bit boring to me.

I've stayed there with my daughters and we love it. Suites are spacious, bathrooms oversized, free parking, nice pool. We're going to stay there again in May when we drive up from an LA trip for 2 nights. $34/night!

Tip: use Hotels.com to book The Tuscany. The Tuscany website rates are much higher.

I'd suggest that individual reactions to neighborhood may be a factor.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay there myself... unless my plans were to walk back and forth to The Strip latenight.

This video is a walk along Koval, to Flamingo, which is the corner where Tuscany is located.

This video is not by the Tuscany. It is a walk along Koval Lane from Tropicana up to Harmon. True, that block is not great, (old apartment complexes looking to sell for their land value) but the block of Koval up toward Flamingo is much heavier traveled by pedestrians and more alive with Ellis Island, Tuscany, Bally's and The Westin at the intersection.

Calling this area around Tuscany Suites "very safe anytime day or night" is beyyyyyond a stretch. I'm a man in my mid 30s and wouldnt be concerned walking to and from the strip from there..... but theres no way i would want like my gf and her mom walking around there alone at night by themselves.

I stayed at Tuscany for 7 nights in July, and walked up (and back) East Flamingo to the strip most nights to gamble or eat or take in a show. I also walked up and down Koval Lane near there (e.g.down to Ellis Island, or up to Harrahs/the Linq). I can only speak from my own experience, but there were always so many people around (e.g. tourists like me) walking those routes that I never felt unsafe. Mid 50s guy here who needs to lose a few pounds, so if anyone would be a prime target to get mugged it would probably be me, LOL! I also saw plenty of families with kids in strollers who didn't seem concerned either. I did notice a few characters hanging around near the bus stop (East Flamingo) and outside the 711 (Koval Lane) who looked a bit down on their luck, but no more so than in other parts of Vegas or other large cities in the U.S. I also saw plenty of police cars cruising around, so it never felt like they were far away, just in case. As for walking the other way down East Flamingo past Tuscany at night (e.g. towards the Silver Sevens direction), my past experience (I used to stay at Key Largo further down East Flamingo back in the days before it burned down) is that it can start to feel a bit dark and unsafe beyond a certain point down Eat Flamingo past University Centre Drive. One of the relatively higher crime areas in Paradise is up around Algoquin Drive up to E. Katie Ave. But that is a lot further down East Flamingo than any tourist would need to/choose to walk, and also a bit north of East Flamingo anyway. As for West Flamingo though, I did feel a bit at risk (i.e. like I had made a foolish decision) when walking back from Palms to Tuscany at night on that West Flamingo side. Just very few people walking around there, and quite a few down on their luck people out on the streets. And quite dark and not designed as as a clear/easy/straight walk (i.e. filled with various road crossings and walkways etc..). And that was nothing to do with Tuscany. Maybe these matters are all relative to where people are accustomed to staying, and how well they know the area. For example, I have sometimes felt unsafe being just a bit off the track when visiting Downtown at night, but someone who stays there regularly and knows their way around might not feel that same way as I did. Anyway, I have never personally felt unsafe at or around the immediate vicinity of Tuscany on East Flamingo. There are also plenty of other places to duck into if one feels unsafe. e.g. the Westin hotel, the Gas Stand on the corner of Koval Lane, the Platinum Hotel, etc.. I love Tuscany suites, agree with others who consider it a hidden gem for the location and price and room size, and I look forward to staying there again for 9 nights this June. So each to their own and everyone has different experiences and perceptions, and that is fine.

I never stayed at Tuscany Suites but I stay across the street at the Residence Inn in the Hughes Center when I go for the NAB convention for work. I did go to Tuscany Suites Casino and ate at the bar and thought it was a good solid option with a good beer menu. The bartender was great. I would go there again. I also played VP there and I remember the payables as being good, although I lost, lol. Kelly Clinton Holmes plays in the lounge on Wednesday nights. I have not seen her there, but plan on that in April when I stay there again.
As far as the walk goes, I walked everyday to the Convention Center and back. I also walked, at night many times to the strip. So I am walking along East Flamingo. I never felt unsafe, but I am a New Yorker and talk to no one and only stop for red lights. I'm also pretty aware of my surroundings.

Whenever we stay at Tuscany or Platinum we walk along E Flamingo a lot! I can't say I have ever been worried for my safety at any time. The walk along Flamingo from Tuscany to LVB is pretty busy, even at night, and I can only think that it will get a bit busier now that the Front Yard at Ellis Island is fully open. From Tuscany to Silver Sevens is a bit quieter, but again, not deserted and not a lot of homeless people around. I think it is fine.

I must be a really low roller with Boyd. I've never gotten an offer for any free nights.. Discounted nights is all.

I'm very low roller also but I can usually get a free night or two. I play mainly BJ there with a couple hundred through VP. I used to do more VP but they cut the points so I cut my play.

Haha i agree. Its a bit sketchy in that area. I stayed at the Platinum next door 3 nights one year. And its a bit of an adventure walking from there to the strip. Just beware of your surroundings. :) The Tuscany property does look quite nice IMO. I spent some money in there and wandered the property inside and out.

I stayed there with my daughter in August and I didn't sense the area to be sketchy. Well, not any more or less sketchy than any other part of Vegas. We didn't have any safety concerns and we walked to the Linq from there with no issues.
