Hopefully the future owners keep the name, take off that ugly white wrap and will bring it back to it's former themed glory.

I suspect it might be a candidate for a tear down/rebuild. That is one heck of a good location on the same corner as MGM, NYNY & Excalibur.

I really liked the remodel that was done with the casino several years ago. I agree, the plain white exterior of the two towers is uninspired. When the property opened in 1957 they were going for the Miami Beach/Havana Cuba vibe but those two towers just look like hundreds of other Florida condo buildings.

Whatever the new owners decide to do with the Trop I sincerely hope they keep the Tiffany lead glass ceiling in some capacity.

Would love to see Boyd buy it and offer $10 3/2 blackjack all the time.

I’ve stayed there a few times comped but I just can’t stand their blackjack tables and rules anymore. The restaurants are ehh for me,the rooms are ok some remodeled and bettter than others, but the casino just sucks imo. But the location is GREAT as far as I’m concerned and parking is free and really easy to get into and out of the garage and onto the strip or the freeway or go south on LVB.

Yeah, I agree @marcianofan, the property is 63 years old and the bones of even the newest tower, Paradise, are pretty old. The Club Tower and Bungalow rooms are ancient. I stayed there often about 20-25 years ago and even then both towers were showing their age. Way too small of a casino for that location. Kind of hoping for a complete redevelopment of this property at some point but really hope they keep the Tropicana name. There is a pretty big parking lot between Hooters and the Trop, not sure who owns that land, and if my memory serves correct a decent amount of strip-front parking on the south end of the property; so there would be plenty more space for a robust rebuild.

Not to be a total b*tch here, but ...

We don't need yet another mega-fiasco, as in bigger, bigger, bigger and more expensive! If somebody wants that, buy Resorts World and finish it!

We need someone to take some TLC with an existing legacy hotel and let it bring in the people (and yes, the $$$$) with decent accommodations and decent gaming!

Zero chance of a tear-down and mega-resort rebuild as the proximity of McCarran limits the height of buildings in this area. You'd probably struggle to get the existing building through FAA approval if you tried to build it today....

I agree with you about the legacy hotels @dmr. As far as nostalgia goes I’m right there with you and I hated to see the DI, Riv, Sands, Dunes et al go but it was their time and ultimately inevitable.

They could do ad infinitum remodels of the rooms at the Trop but that still wouldn’t address the electrical, plumbing & HVAC issues, small & outdated bathrooms and general wear and tear on the other infrastructure of both towers. IMHO, and that’s all it is, that location is just too valuable to have a very small casino, especially by strip standards, and rooms that are long past their shelf life. For such a large footprint they’re giving up a lot in opportunity cost by having way less than 2,000 rooms. Besides it’s name, pool and Tiffany glass the Trop has sadly become a rather nondescript property.

It will be sad to see it imploded, whenever that might occur, but if they keep the Trop name - which I think would be really cool - and a few of their other hallmark attributes I’m all for a better resort that will bring in more hotel guests and casino patrons.

Possibly being bought by the same group that bought Hooters.......big tear down and mega rebuild in one of the best corners on the strip.

Level it. It does nothing to enhance the south end of the Strip and actually brings the whole area down. The glass ceiling IS magnificent. Would be nice if they keep that.

What ever the new owners do with the Trop, the #1 priority should be expanding the casino. The only reason we go there every time we're in Vegas is to see how crappy the place has become since being married there in '95. So sad.
The old girl deserves better. Hopefully the new owners will address the casino issues.

I don’t think I have walked in there in at least 5 years....just no interest for me there. Kind of bland. Hopefully new owners will energize the place.

A throwback to a time when the eye in the sky was human.

it reminds me of the “original” Golden Nugget in AC, aka, Bally’s Grand, The Grand, Atlantic City Hilton, ACH, Atlantic Club.

The last time i stayed at the Trop was just after MGM opened. I got the cheapest room with a view in the garden rooms.....the view was Tropicana Blvd with incoming traffic with headlights flashing, horns honking, and people yelling and screaming in drunken rage.....LOL.
The only reason i slept at the Trop was it was cheaper than MGM but easy access to the Wizard of OZ across the street. But the Trop never appealed to me, so i made MGM and Monte Carlo my at home places for many years in the 90's.

I do hope the Trop doesn't get levelled (don't think it will) because the land is too valuable and it's one of the best locations on the Strip. Makes more sense to keep it open during construction using different stages, then when it's finished have a grand reopening of the new Trop, sort of like the new Sahara (difference being that the Trop is in a prime location, where people can walk to the Trop very easily from Wynn down to the four corners, whereas Sahara is still a ghost town as far as walking to/from).

Kinda funny how no one has even mentioned the pool area , I’m not a pool guy but didn’t it use to be one of the nicer ones on the strip? Whatever they do tho the first thing should be to redo the casino, especially the pit area and the way they’re dealing games!

I loved the swim up BJ at the Trop. The pool was top notch.
