I know it is a long way out, but I was doing some browsing for a trip in November/December and the prices at CET hotels seemed to be crazy high, especially compared to MGM prices for the same dates. Nov 29-Dec 6 - 7 nights - Basic rooms Paris - $2800 Ballys - $3125 Flamingo - $2158 Harrahs - $2094 PH - $2694 I know that the NFR rodeo starts on Dec 5th and there has been a big amazon convention during that week in the past but even so, they seem a little over the top. Does anyone have any idea of anything else that could be affecting those prices??
Two potential Football weekends in that span also. I would imagine a game on one of the two weekends.
I think there are two main causes, and you identified both of them. The convention website lists the dates for next year as 11/30 through 12/4, and last year had 60k attendees (with even more expected this year). Plus, the casinos generally assume anyone booking eleven months out really wants those specific dates, so they're not inclined to discount much.
the amazon convention drives up prices the rodeo doesnt rooms have always been dirt cheap during the rodeo if it didn't overlap the convention
As said 1 - They are counting on being busy, so they can charge more 2 - Book so far in advance, they can charge more 3 - Football weekends in Vegas are a big unknown right now, but you can count on it being crazy. Schedule not out until April. 4 - Conference of course 5 - Rodeo week In looking at Mirage and NYNY - the rates CURRENTLY are way better. Book something that is refundable now, and review later.
This is exactly what I'd suggest as well. It's the best possible insurance policy, since it costs you $0 but locks in what could be the best rate for you. OP... you're also only looking at CET rates it seems, and this isn't the first time I've seen abnormally high rates on weird dates for seemingly no reason at all at CET properties. I plugged your dates into Treasure Island's website and it gave me $177.96 average subtotal per night (before tax/resort fee). So perhaps that might prove the right idea for you to book on a refundable basis. That way you'll be guaranteed to not pay more than the low $200s per night total, and you can keep checking CET rates closer to the actual stay. That's what I'd do, anyway.
Since you are looking at CET properties, Great Gift Wrap Up will be in there also. But I would say it is mainly because it is 11 months away.
Thanks for the replies folks. I actually booked for similar dates last year at around this time of year and the prices were 'normal'. The thing that seems weird is that it was only this week that had inflated prices, the week before and after were about average for the properties. Also it was only CET that seemed massively inflated, Mlife and others are at their usual price points. If Aria is cheaper than Flamingo (no disrespect intended) then something must be out of whack with the universe. I thought about football, but as the schedule is unknown and other Sundays appear unaffected, discounted it as a cause. Has the Amazon convention changed location? Is it moving from MGM convention space to CET? Could it be a glitch in the CET booking system (it wouldn't be a surprise) or are they just on top of their game with the calendar? Thanks for the booking advice, its not my first Rodeo (hah a pun!!!.....sorry!!) and I have already made a backup reservation at Luxor for that week just in case. Its not my first choice, nor even 2nd thru 10th choices, but 7 nights at Luxor for $300 trumps the CET options even if I do have to pay resort fees.
I noticed this too. But Rio looks to be dirt cheap in comparison. It's crazy how much the strip location is valued. In any case, you did get a solid deal for the Luxor that week.
The last time I saw prices that crazy for seemingly no reason at all a Mayweather fight was announced a few weeks later. But that impacted CET and MLIFE rates. So either CET knows of a huge event coming that week and aren't letting on, or it's a glitch in the system. I'd give them a call to confirm.
