    My Trip Report

Last trip of 2019 / first trip of 2020. I've never been in Vegas for NYE, so I figured, why not? I'm flying out late tonight, celebrating NYE with the family, catching some hockey games, and headed home on the red-eye on 1/11.

I double booked offers at the D and Four Queens for NYE - one room for me and my cousin and one for aunt and uncle. We have reservations at Hugo's Cellar for 7:30 and then intend to hang out on/around Fremont until Midnight (or, more realistically, until I decide I can't handle the crowds and go hide in my room).

Then I'm moving on to the Plaza for three nights, back to the D for four nights, and then a night in Henderson, before heading home.

    Other Plans Include:
    • VP, VP, and More VP
    • HOCKEY!
    • Slotting Around Fremont
    • Andiamo's ($100 F&B)
    • Oscar's Happy Hour ($25 F&B)
    • Maybe Top of Binions (comps)
    • Cashing in FP to Pad the Bankroll ($300 Binions, $300 QQQQ, $110 Sahara, $100 GG, $25 x 3 Plaza, $75 the D)
    • Henderson local casinos
    • Sports Ball Watching
As usual, I'll be doing this semi-live. Expect random, blurry pictures on an ongoing basis as I move through and an attempt to get caught up at least once a day. Thanks for following along! I'm catching up on recent trip reports this afternoon and getting pumped!

I’m on my way! Although, if you want to get technical, I’ve only made it to the Schlafly Beer outpost at the airport.

Beer, hockey, kindle. If I only had bartop VP, this would be perfection.

Ugh. First we were delayed waiting for inbound passengers. Now we are delayed due to “mechanical problems with the jet bridge”. I’m even flying a real airline this time. Southwest is a real airline, right? I expect this from my Frontier red-eye return (I never learn), but not Southwest.

Thank goodness I have a hoard of drink tickets to use if we ever do get on the plane.

And while I was writing this post we started boarding. Huzzah! Off to Vegas (and downing Baileys on the rocks) soon.

Arrived. Vegas is already jamming - airport was busy - ride share pickup was bananas. When I landed Lyft and Uber were both >$40 for LAS to Four Queens. I seriously considered taking a taxi, but by the time I got over to baggage claim Uber was down to $21 (Lyft was up over $50). I still managed to get downtown and checked into both rooms (Four Queens and the D) within an hour of getting off my plane.

A tale of two rooms. At Four Queens - they were out of the non-smoking room I had reserved and nothing coming available tomorrow. I'm getting in late on a holiday and I know room types aren't guaranteed, but it's still a bit disappointing . Oh, well. Go up to room. It's standard Four Queens and actually on the quiet side of the house, which I appreciate. The smoke smell isn't too bad - it actually smells kind of like everything else in the casino. By the time I leave Vegas, I smell like a chimney anyway. It's one of the rooms with a teeny tiny shower which makes showering while fat into a bit of a comical yoga routine. I miss the showers at Borgata's Water Club. Sigh.

At the D - my host had reached out late this afternoon to confirm that I was still checking in. I was hoping that meant he had blocked a room for me and I got a panoramic king non-smoking on the quiet(er) side of the hall. Score! I'm always surprised at how well I'm treated at the D for as low of a roller as I am. And the room is definitely a step above Four Queens. Guess where I'm staying tonight? So in truly crazy fashion, I'll be staying at the D tonight, Four Queens tomorrow, then most likely the D on Wednesday, then over to the Plaza for three nights. Overcomplicated itinerary? Me? Never!

It's not an apples to apples comparison, but I give the D less coin in per stay than I give Four Queens and yet I'm definitely higher on the D's radar. Four Queens - I got a New Year's Eve room and wrist bands, but no party invite. The D - NYE, wrist bands, party invite. On the other hand Four Queens full pay VP + comp program can't be beat. I'm mostly just grateful that I was able to snag two free rooms for NYE - although I'll be doing a bit of dancing to try to put in enough play at both places to stay in their good graces.

Tomorrow's plan is to put in some play at Four Queens on $1 JoB and $.50 DDB. Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin are coming downtown mid-afternoon. Dinner at Hugo's at 7:30 and then who knows? I really want to check out Fremont and ring in the New Year, but I also am generally not a fan of crowds. We'll see how long I last.

Right now I'm not tired at all - WTF brain? it's many, many hours past normal life bedtime. I need to sleep or I'll be miserable tomorrow. My nine-month old niece gave the entire family a cold that I'm just now getting over. And she (and her parents) have been staying at my place over the holidays - so I've been experiencing the joys of middle of the night crying jags and 5:30AM wake ups. I've never before come to Vegas looking forward to getting better sleep.

Two rooms for NYE. I want to be you.
D treats you better on room quality and events but 4Qs has better JoB and cash/food program. That is a real dilemma on which to choose. The exact same dilemma plagues me and I still haven't decided which to choose. To add to the mix, I also perseverate over whether the Plaza should be in the mix.
My primary is The Cal/MSS and I just can't decide if the D/4Qs/Plaza should be my second downtown.

Curious to see if the crowds are overwhelming. Ten years ago, I would've tried it with no sweat. Now I'm intrigued, but not sure how I'd really react. Will enjoy following along!

    Good luck.
