I’ve been a long term hosted client of Golden Gate and got a call from my host warning me the games I play had been pulled. I go down to check yesterday. Other than two small banks of really dated slots, all the ones like Red Riding Hood, Rome and Egypt and Spartacus had been pulled. The old ones left are kitty glitter aged. So I’m like fine let’s find something else only to find all the remaining games were fifty cents or higher minimum bet. Went down to D and found my games moved there but gone were the option to get 30 cents and below only fifty now. Went upstairs to classic slot section. There is one bank classic slots left. All rest are gone. This does not affect video poker or sigma derby as I don’t consider those slots. End result I split my money between D and Four Queens. At least they still have a variety of old and new games. Guess Circa going to be the same way. That sucks cause those newer electronic wonders consume moola fast.

It’s happening everywhere. Trying to find some of the older 3 reel slots is getting harder to find at a lot of casinos now. The new penny slots are taking over and the newer versions of older games are showing up with higher minimums.

Four Queens is probably your best bet, maybe El Cortez. I wonder what Derek ended up doing with all of those old slots upstairs that he got from the Riviera.

I agree. I play mostly VP, but when I play slots I want to play old school Wheel of Fortune. I used to play at Trop. 2 yrs ago they took them out. So I started playing at Flamingo. This year they took them out. When MGM pulled Sigma Derby, I began going down to The D to play that and saw old WOF and have been playing those in there. But I, too, noticed last time that there were more "new" machines creeping in. (Is the Sinbad machine still upstairs at D?)

The only Sigma Derby left in town is at The D.
(In the 4th line, OP starts talking about The D.)

Even the 4Q pulled the reel .5 slots out. We used to play them all the time and when we were there last Aug., they were gone.

Kinda reminds me of the Rocket 7's machine I used to play at the Orleans. I played for hours one night didn't win a lot but it kept me playing. They took it out a few years ago. I think if the casinos keep going this way players may put less in the slots. I am not a big fan of the minimum $.50+ machines. I like to play lower when I don't get any hits of sort.

The two Sinbad machines were still upstairs at The D as of two weeks ago.

Since somebody mentioned Wheel of Fortune:
It seems to be pretty hard to find the "old" WoF Jackpot machines these days. I was not playing them a lot, but eventually with friends we played together. Not any more.

So at the casino I work at we have just taken out 14 of 16 old Wheel of Fortunes. The problem is parts are no longer available from IGT. These things have had constant reel tilts and paper jams and are a pain for players and employees. The second issue is that apparently IGT does not make this exact same type of game on a new platform. We have had to order new versions that are very different games and then move the progressive jackpots into these new machines. This does not go over big with a lot of players.

When a Ballys Blazing Sevens gets replaced, we can order the exact same game in a new cabinet...not sure why the old Wheel of Fortune game is not available.

I ended up choosing the four Queens as it had the Red Riding Hood and Spartacus at less than fifty cents a line. It had some of the electronic older ones like original planet moola and the newer ones like Prosperous Buddha and lightning games. I like the atmosphere too as the music isn’t so loud. I’m just going to play the ones I’d choose for fifty cents at the D and the rest at Four Queens. My complaint about the D is dude advertises a classic slot area and took most of them out. And yes sigma derby only at D and it’s still awesome. There are no restaurants at GG anyway so switch will be good.

I'm not a big slots guy but I'm sad to see WOF go away. When we first started coming to town on a regular basis they were everywhere.

There was one version of WOF which had a 4th reel for determining if your bonus spin had 1, 2 or 3 positions to win on. I really enjoyed that one but I haven't seen it in the wild in probably 8 years or so.

My favorite slots are at Binions. Max bet $.75 on several of the older machines. When I am feeling lucky I up my bet to $.02 a line or maybe even $.05. Yep, I am a real High Roller. At least I can play a while instead of just feeding the damn things.

The thing that really surprises me is that Golden Gate would have hosts....I would not expect that anyone who would be playing big money would come to Vegas to spend it at the Golden Gate..

The Gate is iconic and gets its share of decent-sized players. You must be thinking in terms of rooms there. If you are a big enough player - you are coming for the sports-themed comps like box tickets for GN's games, TMobile events etc. Also, my host in Reno's players get taken all of the world on freebies if their play warrants it, because they recognize that Reno is a dust bowl in a flytrap. :haha: I would imagine that a large enough player at a Steven's property would be offered something in a similar fashion. @GeorgeJ. - you are simply thinking too small. :goofy:

Edited to Add: Hookers and blow are also usually up for grabs...figuratively and literally.

I have a host at GG, and the majority of my play is at GG. There are 1000's of BJ/craps tables in Vegas. For me, its not only the gamble that's entertainment, its the people and employees. You'll be hard pressed to find better employees in Vegas as you will at GG. Small casino, small bar, low turnover, and usually a nice welcoming smile from "most" of the dealers!
