I was chatting a to a friend the other day and it reminded me of an incident that took place a year ago in AC......

I was playing 4 card poker and hit a 4 OAK which paid the mini progressive, I looked up at the progressive screen and saw that it was at about $1100, that'll do nicely I thought to myself, now I just waited for the pit boss to come over, confirm it and pay my winnings, I knew it wouldn't be long as he was at the 4 card poker table next to us sorting something out, a couple of minutes later he wandered over, confirmed my win and told the dealer to pay me, the dealer then reached for chips and paid me $300.

Excuse me I said, the progressive win was $1100, the pit boss said yes it was, but unfortunately the table to your right also just hit a 4 OAK (before you) and they won the $1100 progressive which reset it back to $300.

Not much I could say to that really, but for sure that's the quickest way I have ever lost $800!

So, I was just curious to what is the most annoying, frustrating or unbelievable event that has ever happened to you whilst gambling?

Always played w a buddy of mine and we had an agreement if either of us ever hit that we'd split it. So I get my hand... start sliding my hand apart slowly like I always do.. .4 ..Kspade..Qspade...4..Jspade..10Spade.. I'm freaking out.. 9spade... wonkwaa waa.. look over in my buddy's hand.. he has our ace of spades for 335k ... smh...worst part is .. guess what a straight flush w a pair was on the bonus bet ? $200 ... FML.. LOL.. Closest I'll probably ever be to something absolutely life changing .. but we'll keep trying.. just in case :D

Playing Caribbean Stud on a "ship to nowhere" out Of Miami.

Dealt a full House and the dealer didn't qualify. This was before progressives (yes, a long time ago).

Playing WoF slots in HL room in GN vegas. Hit the bonus for a paltry $200. Move to another machine and watch this woman plop right down, didn't think much of it until a few moments later a I hear the machine lock up and gasps all around. Look over and she hit the progressive jackpot ~1.4 million. Problem was that she was only betting one credit...I was sick to my stomach.

I've probably told this story, and it's not really directly related to gambling (it did happen while I was gambling), but I never tire of it.

Was playing blackjack at Aria. Full table, with a Spanish-speaking couple next to me. I'm not fluent in Spanish, but I can pick up the gist of it usually. They were very flirty, he was giving her chips to play with, all the hallmarks of a couple. And then, about 10 minutes in, another woman comes marching up to the table, takes her purse into her hand, and hits him in the face with it as hard as she can. She literally grabs him by the ear and yells, "VENGA AQUI. AHORA." ("come here, now").

The other woman remained behind and we chatted a little in my broken Spanish. She then said, "so... quieres party?". I quickly declined.

Best blackjack session ever. Better than any Cirque show. I don't even remember if I won or lost. My favorite part was how the dealer was totally nonplussed; it's like the John Mulaney recounting of the staff at the Salt and Pepper Diner when he was playing "What's New Pussycat" 21 times in a row.

This wasn't me, but my mother. Somewhere prior to 2000 or so, we were waiting for a family member and she decided to low-play a super progressive VP machine where the sequential royal was $10,000. She was betting $.25 a hand. I told her she should NEVER short-play, but there she was doing it and of course got a sequential royal. I was pissed at her. So much so that I don't even remember how much she won...somewhere around a couple of hundred. Made me want to puke my guts out. My husband says I have never forgiven her for her transgression. I think he's right and she's been gone 5 years. I swear if she were here today, I'd hug here tight and yell at her all over again. :D:love:

2015. Sports book at Bellagio. W. Kentucky football playing down in South Florida. I have a 1st half, full time on W. Kentucky and Over bet.

First Half W. Kentucky is up by 40. They even covered the Over. I collect my first half bet and have 20 large on the other two bets.

With 5:10 left W. Kentucky scores and they are up by like 60. All of the sudden the game goes off the board or screens. WTF? Game isn't televised, I ask the ticket writers and managers what is going on. One guy shakes his head and says game is on hold. HUH?

I can't find out anything for 2 hours. Just hold my slips, I am the only one in the Bellagio who bet this. Manager says to me let me see your ticket for your refund. Refund?

I get my bet back but no winnings. To this day I didn't get the full story, but...thunderstorms moved into the area. Everyone was about to go into the locker rooms as soon as w. Kentucky scored. While in the locker rooms storm moved over Miami and instead of finishing the game both coaches agreed to end the game. Which according to the NCAA you can't just do, you need permission from the conference. Because the game didn't hit the 55 minute mark, it wasn't an official game. Lost out on 30 large because of 10 seconds or one play, if WKU waited one more play to score....The ultimate bad beat, a game you had won since the first touchdown 2 minutes into the game, taken away because of 10 seconds.

A long time ago I made a parlayed wager on 6 games.

I was 5 out of 5. My final gam was a tie between Blackhawks and Flames (NHL). Back then, teams rarely scored in OT. With 2.5 minutes to go....goal.

$250;000 gone like that....haven’t bet on sports since.

I have countless (sports parlays) stories like that. This was the final straw!!!!

My favorite nonsense bet is craps is $5 on 12 (Nickle Midnight, or whatever you want to call it) - a one roll bet that pays 31 for 1.

At Golden Nugget and I throw it out there and it hits.
Play keeps going and I throw it out there again - it hits again.
Again, we keep rolling and I toss it out again - BOOM, 3 times in a row!
I miss on my next time, but I've hit 3 out 4 on it, so why not try it again.
IT HITS! 4 out of 5 and the table is buzzing, waiting for me to throw it out there again.
So I finally get the feeling and throw it out - immediately EVERYONE at the table is on 12.

The roll comes out, the dice hit the back wall and the first one stops on 6. The other die bounces around, spins, and starts to settle and lands on...5 for an 11.

I was a point away from hitting a healthy 5 team parlay last March, just needed Davidson's best player and an 88% free throw shooter to make one free throw.

    He missed.

Settled in to the VP bar at River Spirit in Tulsa, ok. Keeping in mind me nor my buddy had ever had a RF. I say to him “ one of us is due the RF”. I sit down, then he walks up so I moved over one seat. You guessed it, he hits a Royal Flush on about the 5th hand at my original machine! Hey st least one of us finally hit it!!

Sadly that seems to be the sports betting rule of thumb on my parlays too. Hit 5 out 6 6 out of 7 4 out 5. 1 out of 2. The number never seems to matter it's just always going to be 1 short. Funny story on that and I suppose fits in here too. A couple weeks ago I pieced together a 5 teamer with 1 college and 4 NFL games I liked, figured I would avoid the magic 1 loss issue by doing some round robins on it. Did 3s 4s and 5s. Of course the two ML dogs cash, but nothing else and the parlay pays nothing... I suppose our lesson should be to stop placing parlay wagers, but that seems unlikely lol.

Playing craps at the GN outdoor pool. The guy across the way is down to his last $60, and puts it on snake eyes. My friend rolls, and hit's it. The payout should be $1,800, but there is a tiny sign on the table (and I do mean tiny) that says "maximum payout for this table is $1,500". So, he misses out on $300. Ends up tipping my friend the original $60 bet, and heads out.

Sat down at a $15 Blackjack 6 deck shoe game with a fun dealer at Caesars this past trip, just as we're starting the new shoe a couple of guys sit down and buy in with $50 bills.

I should have walked. I didn't, and I ended up losing it all. Superstitious? You bet.
