I plan on staying at Boyd. Sapphire level and always get 3 nights comped + food & FSP at the off-Strip properties and recently received a mailer for 3 nights at The Fremont Jan-Mar. I'm hoping that they send another for May, but will pay on my rate.
I previously stayed at the Cal a couple of years ago and.....meh.
I've always wanted to stay at MSS since the 1990's....
Fremont always intrigued me for a long time....
    Thoughts appreciated.

Have stayed at all three over the years. I prefer the Cal because of the remodel and the relaxed vibe of the place.
MSS comes in a close second. Friendly dealers and 777. I can rarely find an open bj table so I usually go to the Cal.
The Fremont has small rooms and more "drive by's " coming to the tables. Nevertheless, when I was first learning to play craps, the dealers took us under their wings and we had a great time. Profitable too!
You will have a great time whichever you choose. With the Cal and MSS you get a "twofer" since they are connected by the enclosed walk bridge.

I think that gambling at any of the three is fine. However, I would suggest the Cal West Tower or MSS as your place to stay. I wouldn't stay at Fremont unless it was my only option of those three.

Staying at the Cal now, the renovated rooms are starting to show there age... But of the three, I would probably still choose the Cal of the three choices. Room facing MSS still gets train noise but not as bad as if we were staying at MSS, and Cirque construction noise not as bad as the East rooms... Or Fremont's canopy noise.

We just got back from a stay at MSS.

Very nice room and I just posted my trip report and it had details on MSS room. Titled E-Gads... Geezers Do Vegas.

You say you've wanted to stay at MSS for the last 30 years so it sounds like a pretty easy decision lol. Stay at MSS!

That's the way I'm leaning, but eventually it depends on if I'm comped at one of the other Boyd's Downtown.

mss and cal are usually 1 comp option----Fremont for whatever reason is by itself-----its not like you have an option of any of the 3 downtown properties

The rooms at Fremont are small, old, and haven't been renovated in almost 1,238 years. If you are solo and just need a place to crash then it's ok. It is located in the middle of the FSE.

My choice would be Cal then MSS. Fremont if I am solo. My wife would kill me if I ever chose Fremont when she's with me.

I haven't stayed at Cal since they remodeled the rooms. When we stayed there I had a couple of issues. No coffee in the room and long wait for elevators. So I'd vote for MSS. Haven't stayed at Fremont

I have had that option a few years back and we picked the Cal.

Out of those options, hands down The Cal. No question.

Having stayed at all 3, the Cal & their re-modeled, west tower rooms easily wins.

Log on to your bconned account to see if you get comps for the Cal and MSS.

As for where to stay, I think it depends. I can get the Cal but they only give me the east tower. I am also Sapphire. I rather stay at MSS than the east tower of the Cal. If you book the Cal then check to see if they can give you the west tower and if not then go with MSS.

My choice would be MSS. All are ok with me as I'm usually solo. Fremont BRs are tiny, but I only spend about 20 min a day in the BR, soI can live with it. Cal rooms look better than when I stayed there, but I prefer MSS. Rooms are a bit bigger and both have a fridge. MSS has the 777 which I like and the casino is more comfortable to me. The skybridge gives me access to the sports book and the other food options the Cal provides. This is why I'd go with MSS.

I would like to thank all those that responded and gave me their opinions.
I just looked at prices for the 3 Boyd hotels Downtown and with my level made the decision to stay at MSS.
At $25 + tax and resort fee, they were the cheapest. $60 at the Cal & $28 at the Fremont + tax & fees.
    Again, thanks for the input.

We just got back from a stay at MSS and here is something I want to pass along. When I logged in to the BConnected it showed I only had 2 comp nights. Anyway, I decided to call and see if they were showing any other comp nights. I gave the clerk my BConnected card number and that is when she told me, she would comp me the other 2 nights. So, my advice, call anyway, you may get a comp that you didn't know you had. If the room is comped, you do not pay any resort fee either.

That's actually Default Vegas Advice for anyone with previous play at any casino hotel in which they want to stay.

As the saying goes, "If you aren't being told 'NO', you're not asking enough".
