Anyone have any idea why the week of March 8-14, 2020 is so ridiculously expensive? I know there's some construction expo at the Convention Center & March Madness is the following week, so I can't figure out why every hotel is charging such high room rates...

The ConExpo is the 3rd largest convention of the year with 129,000 attendees, most of whom can write their hotel rooms as a business expense.

Also happening at the Orleans Arena on those dates are the 2020 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) men's and women's basketball tournaments.

Just wait until the Raiders move to Vegas next year. I am sure rates will double or triple on the weekends they are in town.

I remember back in the 80's when Comdex was on rooms were outrageously priced. The problem was that all the attendees didn't gamble as they were computer geeks so the casinos didn't make a lot money as I was told by some slot attendants.

This reminds me of my experience. I showed up to register, walked around a couple of hours and high tailed it out of there. I spent the rest of the trip at the casino. Gambling was a much larger attraction to me than computers and I'm still in IT. I am not so much of a degenerate gambler anymore, I hate to lose. I think this was in 1995. My first Comdex was in 1984 (I think) in Atlanta.
