Hubster Recap of dinner at Sinatra: Superb as always.

Got one of our favorite tables in the back corner so we could people-watch whilst dining. Started off with a Raspberry Limoncello concoction for her, and "The Best Is Yet To Come" (as the bishop said to the actress) - a Knob Creek Dark Rye Manhattan that was truly scrumptious. The wife then switched to Ketel One martinis. I stayed the course with the Manhattans until dessert.

The amuse bouche was a shooter of mushroom soup with a sage/bread crumb topping that was highly suggestive of Mrs. Cubbison's.

The appetizers were shrimp with a wonderful blood orange cocktail sauce and the whole reason we go to Sinatra - fettuccine with truffles!! Yes, campers, it's still an off-menu special! Freshly shaved white truffle (off a knob the size of a racquet ball) makes anything better.

Entrees: For her, the turbot with trumpet mushrooms, brussels sprout petals and a marsala sauce. For him, the filet, mashed potatoes and a wine-reduction sauce that would make a tennis shoe taste good, with a braised cippolini onion on the side.

Room was left for dessert. Oh so many desserts. The official order was the tiramisu and a healthy pour of Hennessy XO, a superb cognac that just oozes crystallized fruit, currants, spice and old leather. After the tiramisu was demolished and we settled back to enjoy the XO, the waiter showed up with a cannoli he wanted us to try. Chocolate at one end, pistachio at the other. It vanished in a nonce. At most, two nonces. Settling recommenced, but was interrupted yet again by Mario. This time he arrived bearing petit fours. Chocolate, shortbread, lemon meringue and some sort of pistachio/berry item that I never got the chance to taste.

With that, we made a break for the entrance before Mario could tempt us with further sins. A fast waddle and we were free! Back into the fray.

We now return you to your regular Trip Report. Thank you for flying Air Ardee.

Thanks, @Burnsie. After brunch we'll be on the hunt for an Elvis slot at V/P. Hoping to get some good hits. :D

Ohh, that description of the Sinatra dinner had my mouth watering, especially the fettuccine. (And the desserts.) Yum. (MY DH would stick with the Manhattans all the way through, too.)

That's a mighty fine looking bloody bar. Complete with a choice of Crystal or Tabasco for your hot sauce pleasure. Happy Thanksgiving indeed.

11:30 and the line for the buffet starts on the opposite wall and stretches all the way to La Cave before looping back towards the start.

No way. La Cave for the win.

OMFG! Sitting at Parasol Down, and someone standing behind me gives a little scream and hugs me. It was my former brewing partner and her family, in town to meet her brother for Thanksgiving. Haven’t seen her in a couple of years. It is truly a magical Thanksgiving!

We’re up and ready to head out. Happy Friday, everybody.
Hoping the Cajon Pass is cleared of snow and there aren’t too
many nutballs out on the road.
We’ll finish this up when we get back to the house later this afternoon.
Had a great time eating good food with @luck.ofthe.draw at La Cave yesterday. :feedme:
Some more pics to post and a summary later. Take care til then. :biker:

Okay, time to finish this puppy. Sorry for the delay. Got home a bit later than usual for our Vegas road trips and we had to catch up on real-life things before getting back to the fun stuff.

Where was I? Oh yes, it was time to go meet @luck.ofthe.draw and eat some good food on Turkey Day!

La Cave for Thanksgiving brunch was tasty and fun. Had a good server, Bernie. Told us it was his first day on his own since training. He had a great sense of humor and was good about letting us pace out the food so we could enjoy for a a bit and chat until the next wave of ordering. :D
We shared plates and it was all made of yum. :feedme: Cocktails were pretty great too. :drunk:

    Then onto the grub.

    AF5520D7-1659-4E54-9CE3-19A7F283EC4A.jpeg
An heirloom beet salad with mixed greens, delicious burrata cheese and finished with a light but tasty vinaigrette.

Cheesy garlic mushroom grits. Soooooo good.
    0D93A8CF-739E-4549-A8E1-9CF7BC82DF84.jpeg
3 sausage flatbread. Chorizo, andouille and Italian with a nice melty cheese.
Minced pepperoncini, and red pepper flake to finish. Crust was cooked just right. We all gobbled it down. ;)

Hubs and luck really loved these street-style short rib tacos. The meat cooked to tender perfection. Finished with an avocado crema, tomatoes and cilantro.

This is the only selection that turned out to be a bit of a dud.
Not so much the flavor as in the presentation.
It’s a French Onion Soup variation.
Problem is, they melted the Gruyere cheese on top of the puff pastry which might have sounded like a good idea in theory but in execution, the cheese turned out dry and the puff pastry over-cooked.
I believe it would have turned out much better if they placed the pastry over the cheese so the Gruyere could melt over the soup. But whatcha gonna do? Still worth eating. :) Just wouldn’t order it again.
