When I was a teenager circa 1970 my dad told me “You should get into computers - it’s the coming thing.” Of course I ignored him. Wish I wasn’t so damn smart back then.....

similar with a brother. He had 3 RETAIL computer stores - told him Best Buy etc will drive him out of business - add networking, etc to his mix. Ignored it. IRS took over the stores.

If you can get into a field that you generally enjoy, are good at, and can make a decent living by doing; then you are very fortunate no matter the occupation.

Plenty to look at. I should have invested in some stocks like Microsoft, etc. etc.

I should have taken a chance at buying properties 20 years ago. I was looking at one place, in the early 90's it was going for about $120k. That property is now going for almost a million. But I played it safe and bought a place for about $90k. Not bad as it is now worth about $450k but if had just stretched myself I could have gotten a better place that appreciated much more.

Basic Training: in the '78 timeframe the "old GI Bill" was no more and now you had to contribute. I didn't. I wish I had, but...

You can’t make money unless you go to college and get a degree. Use your head!!
Currently a plumber costs about 60$ an hour, carpenter 40-60$, electrician 50-70$ blah blah blah.
    I DIDN’T fall for Tupperware sales or Amway so that’s a +.
so I went into retail and made lemonade from lemons. Who’s puckering now?

My younger brother said, “Do anything you can to stay the hell out of Vietnam Nam.” Of course, I stupidly volunteered for special ops, went there (and Laos, Cambodia and North) anyway, and spent most all of the year getting shot at, a lot. Should have followed his advice. I’m very lucky to be alive.

My grandmother said, “Don’t get married until you’re at least thirty. Men younger than that don’t know much about anything and make bad choices.” I didn’t listen and had a contentious practice marriage before I later found life long true love with Mrs. Johnny, of course after thirty.

clearly you listened to the advice. It's not a habit though, it's truly an addiction.

Late 1960s, early 1970s. I was working and going to college. My geeky buddy wanted me to invest in oceanfront realty with him, especially Friday Harbor on San Juan Island where he had "an in." For $10 a week we could swing a deal. I told him that if I had an extra $10, I would look for a girls.

I met him 30 years later, that damned real estate, multi-millionaire, and if I have an extra $10 nowadays, I save it for Vegas.

OMG so much. I've been so bullheaded. Such good advice. People trying to get me to check myself before I wreck myself. Good Lord. I wish I hadn't been so stupid.

My ex- sister in law: " I wouldn't want to see any of my friends date my brother."

Me: (6 months later) " I'm going to marry your brother."

    Ex SIL: " I wouldn't do that".

    I should have listened...... lol
