For what you’re facing, for me, it’s the mental nerves that need to relax. Visualization, seeing yourself breeze thru the exam with flying colors helps my nerves relax and make me feel more confident. You know you’re ready, now you just have to tell your nerves that. Feeling confident spurs relaxation.

Hi @Happygirl21 , I am so sorry your dealing with such heavy stress!

I've always been prone to stress, but the last few years, its been tipping over to fairly heavy anxiety (at times) if I dont keep it in check. (The joys of getting older!)

    Moderate stress:

    1) An activty that you enjoy, that makes you feel confident, and that you have to focus on (versus thinking of stress). For me, I throw on some music and love to cook! It can be whatever activity fits the above bill for you. Drawing, archery, knitting, games, whatever. Basically, a fun activity that demands your full attention but doesn't irritate you.

    2) I agree with others on exercise. Whatever form calms you most and the more tiring, the better. The more difficult the exercise, the harder it is to think of stresses, as you're just trying not to puke or fall over! :)

    Intense stress, slipping to anxiety
: Luckily I have gotten a feel for how to avoid this level, but sometimes it surfaces, and the below helps me.

I am NOT a meditation type... meditation annoyed me intensely when younger... Boring!!!

When stressed though, I always feel like "where did the time go" and I realized I could lose hours or days stresing out, making it seem like all I did was stress, eat and sleep. Time flies by, but not in a good way.

To slow time down, I minimize all sensory stimuli. If "spinning" I'll turn off all "noise" ... tv, devices, won't read....I just will lay down briefly. I also will NOT let myself think on anything stressful... or even complex. I'll let myself imagine one, peace, very simple make-believe event. Not multiple events, only one. I can replay it over and over in my mind, but I keep everything so minimal that at first I calm down, then I get bored!

This "only think of one simple image/scenario" , combined with no sensory input, makes time slow WAY down for me... and gives me a moment to "catch my breath. " Sometimes I calm down enough that I get bored/antsy and reboot, just so I can do something! (Picture how long 10 minutes waiting in line or at a doctors office feels. Time is relative!)

    Test-Studying
I KNOW you will do amazing Happygal, you've got this... trust yourself! Even you said you know the material.

Just remember the brain IS like a computer, and you CAN temporarily crash it if you over-saturate it.

Study until your feel like you truly have it, but also give it a rest before the test. You CAN cram too hard and blank out, just like a computer with a temporary power surge. Once you feel you've
got it, give yourself a mental breather.

Bottomline, good luck, youll do great, and we are cheering for you!

I'm a little different. Spend some time in the throne and let your body relax.

Take off all your clothes, lie down in a semi dark room, no TV or music and think thoughts of your first time (Vegas I mean).

When I was studying for a similar exam, I was incredibly stressed and could not sleep. I had a glass of wine before bed and slept a lot better. If that's not an option, maybe a benadryl? If not abused, the benefits of moderate over the counter pharmaceutical use can be substantial.

Yes...art classes and going to museums to sketch really help in not thinking about anything else!

You are going to do great, we are all pulling for you!

I PASSED!!!!!!! I can not put into words how happy I am. I think I may have frightened the clinical examiner when she told me I passed. I screamed "oh my God" than wrapped my arms around her and bursted out in tears, lol. Then proceeded to step on her toes

I have to admit, some of your suggestions made made me laugh, so that was actually good too! Thank you for all the words of encouragement.

I have to say one thing about this board; even though most of us have probably really only met a handful of people from here, the support and kindness that is extended to each of us, from one another is great!

I am really happy to be a member of such an awesome group! Thank you again! You guys were more helpful than you know!

Way to go! So happy for Happygirl!

as for relaxing, I darken the room, lay down, put the earphones on and download a podcast “The Many Moods of Ben Vaughn” and just chill.

Congratulations on passing a once in a life time type of exam. Sounds almost like taking the bar (law degree). I myself go to the gym regularly as im a fitness junkie and working out helps the majority of the time. I read novels too and reading anything tends to help relax at times too.
