And I wouldn't spend a penny more for any of those as an upgrade.

Agreed. Even strip view does not mean much to me, or High Roller view. As long as it's not HVAC view (which happened only a few times), the mountain, desert, strip, arena all sceneries are pretty good anyways. I don't mind whichever one comes up.

I don't mind the HVAC view, I spend all of 30 seconds looking and then the curtains probably don't open again.

I got 7 nights in an Augustus Tower room looking at Bellagio fountains on a high floor for $50 or $100 (I used to drink a lot more then).

That was an upgrade from the cheapest room in 2009, whatever that was then. My room was part of a block poker package with Ladbrokes and from memory most of them had the cheapest room.

I always offer $50-100 at Cosmo when I check in there. To make sure I get a BT FV room. Cheap enough when I'm there for ~2 weeks. To me, at least*

*I've checked in ~11am those times, too.

I've done a $50 sandwich at Luxor. Booked the basic room with a MyVegas discount, got upgraded to a 2 queen tower suite with a nice view, for 5 days.

Did a $50 sandwich at Bellagio, booked 2 nights for free with a MyVegas comp, got put to a high floor, center view of the fountains.

$50 at Harrah's, went from the basic room to a slightly less basic room, with a view of CP's. That one wasn't quite worth it IMO.

Did $50 at The Linq during DefCon, the guy gave me my money back because there was nothing he could do. He did put me on a higher floor and let me pick where I wanted to be.

I'll probably be doing $50 at the Excalibur during CES in a month or so.

I did a $50 sandwich at Flamingo because I hate their small rooms and wanted something a little bigger. The person gave me my money back. In general , I feel like there is no difference between the $50 and $20 sandwich. If they have the room, you get it. If no, no luck. For that reason, I would not recommend the $50 or $100 sandwich, let alone the $200 sandwich.

Perhaps $20 is an antiquated amount we should update to the $50 trick. It has more success. Besides one will win it back quick.

That’s what I thought. Wish me luck.

$50 seems like a rather large amount for a few minutes of work. My guess is that both $20 and $50 work equally well. Either they will both work or both will not work.

I guess it varies on the duration of stay too

I tend to agree. I’m still stuck on the $20 unless I know what I’m asking for is way more than what I’m getting. It’s a gamble, and always a right place right time situation.

Like I’ve said before... Put down what you feel comfortable with and if it happens, great! If they say no, there can be a counter situation that will save you way more than $20/$50.

    Good luck to all!

IMHO, desklings have limits to what they can do, so a $200 sandwich probably wouldn't help any more than a $50 sandwich.

Pretty much this. FD agents usually need to get approval from a manager or rooms coordinator when it comes to certain upgrades or rooms that have been blocked.

I clicked this thread, thinking it was about a sandwich on the menu at Circa.

Yeah, I usually do $50, but I give it afterwards as just a tip and with no expectation of getting anything out of it. I'll sometimes have the bill out so they can see it, but I don't hand it over until I'm checked in. For me it's just a karma thing, rather than trying to actively get an upgrade. If anything, $200 might raise questions that $20/$50 would not.

Wow, $50 is a pretty generous tip for a few minutes if someone's work, especially if you don't get an upgrade.

I usually give $20 tips up front before checking in, and if I don't get an upgrade but the front desk person is friendly and cheerful (they always are), I never take it back.

But if I really want the upgrade, then I keep the $50 on the table but if they give me nothing, they only get the $20.

I was curious about this. Does the casino really care even if you give a very large tip? I didn't think it would raise any questions. I figured a high roller with a 6 figured credit line may very well tip in hundreds
