Let's say you are playing craps on a $10 table with $10 on the 4.
The 4 hits and you say "Press 1 unit."
    Does the 4 now have a $15 bet or a $20 bet?
It is obvious at the $5 table that 1 unit is $5 but not sure at the $10 table.

At my local place, if I say "press it up one unit" they would only take it up $5.

At my local, and seemingly the case in most casinos I have. 1 unit is the base unit so if you start at 10 on it they would take it to 20 If you start with $1 it would be 2 and if you start with $100 it would be $200

I always tell them “go to $x” just to be crystal clear. I don’t want dealers to have to make assumptions or have to clarify what I want to do when dealing with my bets.

I usually say press a unit and the dealers would increase by the lowest possible bet. On a $10 minimum table, they would increase $5 on a $10 bet and $6 on a $12 bet. Never had an issue with them misunderstanding.

When playing Downtown at the Boyd properties your base unit is your initial bet. So if you bet $5 and say press one unit they will increase by $5. If your base bet is $10 they will increase by $10.

Sometimes there is confusion, most times by the player. I've seen players start off with $5 bets and then on the 2nd press they want the dealer to press by $10 instead of $5. So as mentioned earlier better to say "Go to...." or "Press to..."

Some guys say "Full Press". They want all the winnings applied to the existing bet so the dealer will increase the bet and return whatever left over after the bet is made kosher, depending on what the bet was. On some bets all the winnings can be added and that is considered a parlay.

One unit is $5 or $6 dollars whenever I’ve played.

Great question though. I had to think about it....

I say one unit at Mirage and they get it's 10 --> 15.

Verbal bets they might just err on the side of caution but in your example, where I play it would be $20 as $10 was your base bet and the minimum and there’s little chance of misunderstanding. They just ask if they’re not sure though. In dispute the floor decides. Craps they probably would just use the minimum because there’s too much going on but they also could easily take the instruction based on what’s up there. If you’ve got 4 green and win on a place bet, if you said press 2 I’d personally assume your next bet would be 6 green even if it was a $10 table. It’s probably one of those things that varies depending on where you play though. I always use the value so never thought about it (plus it’s generally good practice to keep the values in your head as you can get silly when you marginalise how much they are worth in your head)

When not making verbal bets, it’s your base / starting bet. If I sit at a green chip minimum but am playing $50 as my standard bet, buying in for 20 units would be $1000. You just never say it as obviously you’re placing the chips.

Incidentally it’s the same way you calculate your bankroll. For me my base bet is 1:150 of my bankroll, If I had $30k in my bankroll account, 1 unit would be $200. I might use progressions, I might raise my stakes because my session roll is much bigger but I’d never raise my base bet for everything until my bankroll was more than 200 units. If I was on a 100 unit slump, I’d probably rebaseline to lower stakes (or more likely give up for that trip and just replace the bankroll when I got home)

It’s important to know your unit for your bankroll management, because of your risk of ruin. A heavy or regular blackjack player might prefer to have a 1000 unit bankroll because they want a low risk of ruin. I don’t play often enough to justify that

    I always say "Go to....."
$60 on the six...….. Go to $90Go to $150 etc.
I have seen confusion between the player and dealer using the unit increments.

IMO, I would say that "one unit" is based on YOUR base bet. If you are starting at $10 on a $5 table, you have established $10 as your "unit"

Guess it all depends on the dealer. They can interpret however they want. I'd say be specific. Increase by $5, $10, etc etc. Most just say "press my #" from what I've seen.
