Cal and Fremont and MSS would surprise me greatly. The Hawaiians are a insistent feed. Why aggravate it. But just my opinion.

It's been awhile since I've seen the Cal open a $10 table. Usually all $5. MSS always has 2 $5 tables open and then the third most times will be a $10 table although I've seen them open the third table as a $5 table also.

Never seen the Fremont open a $10 table. Always saw $5 tables with 1 being a $3 table. I played once in a while at 4 Queens and they were $5 when I played. Plaza not sure, some people say sometimes they open only half the table. Maybe someone can shed the light on the Plaza tables. Elco has $5 tables and I've heard they open $3 tables but not sure. Never played at Binions but when I check I see $5 placards.

GN, GG, and the D has $10 tables most of the times.

I tend to agree. And I hope the $5 tables exist there forever. I believe most Hawaiians love to just play the game. Of course I'm sure we all would love to win all the time but their love of this game is very evident when you watch them play.

Sure all the craps books say stay away from the middle prop bets because they are sucker bets with high HA, yada, yada... And it's true.

But they are fun bets to play, and when you watch the Hawaiians they play it extensively. But don't think they are ignorant to the odds and HA of those bets. They know damn well the chances of winning, but they play them anyway. Because they are fun and entertaining and most of them are playing for fun and entertainment.

The craps tables are our playground. We come to play!:beer:

Yeah but I said the same thing about Boyd charging a resort fee downtown. Never thought they would charge a resort fee but they starting doing it.

I think if all the downtown casinos go to $10 then eventually Boyd may do the same. But I'm hoping that this won't happen for a few decades.

I'm not personally sure that e-craps competes with regular craps. I'm sure some people play both but I expect that a good majority of people have a pretty strong preference.

If a casino phased out the regular game at limits I'm comfortable with in favor of an electronic version, I wouldn't just shrug my shoulders and play it. Instead I'd be on the move to their competition.

Those games have been out for years now. If there was going to be a big shift, i think you would have seen it by now.

I suspect those games have expanded the pie to now include slots players rather than cannibalized table players.

You could be right, I'm just not seeing it.

The one closest to the cage - I've played it several times & it's always been $5.
The one closest to the entrance - I've played it twice - at $5...but I think that one goes to $10 at night... the one in back stays at $5.

I think craps is generally considered a sort-of "loss leader" by casinos... not that they actually lose money, but that the cost of running an open $5 table chews up most of the money made from that table... but a Las Vegas casino pretty much has to offer the game.
With that said, remember that a "$5 player" is typically betting a lot more than $5 per pass.... You've got to figure on, at least, another $12 for the 6 & 8, and likely another $10 on the 5 & 9... so, $27.
So, no...I don't think $5 tables will disappear from downtown, at least not in my lifetime.
I suspect that even Circa will have at least one $5 table when they open.

Hard to say, I think the Circa wants to compete with the GN so they may try to be more "upscale" and only have $10 and up tables.

We shall see when the place is finished.

Yeah, this is part of the reason I started this thread. If Circa wants to project an "upscale" image that's fine, maybe they want to target and steal the Strip demographic.

But joints like the Cal and MSS might feel the pressure and try to follow, just like how they started to add resort fees. I happen to think that would be stupid because the Cal, MSS, Fremont, and several other joints Downtown appeal to a different demographic, one that migrated from the Strip or am not interested in the Strip.

Ha Ha! Notice I called them "Joints", not resorts. I calls them like I sees them. Even if they did renovate they are far from being resorts. I'm talking about you, Cal!!! :D:beer:

After spending a very busy Veteran's Day weekend downtown, I want to retract my earlier opinion on the $10 tables. They were $10 at most of the casinos we visited, and it was problematic. I had to shift my play considerably, and it was really inconvenient for my 21 year old son to enjoy a session. Sunday they finally relaxed the minimums, but Friday and Saturday it was tough.

Yes. Super Bowl (which may be more than a holiday) found additional tables at California and raised minimums at MSS. I have a friend going for super Bowl and if that is the case he won’t play. He says he isn’t addicted but I’ve seen him strung out before. He’ll be fine Monday after as he will only play 5$ craps.

Sunday morning I was at the only open craps table (our of two) at Four Queens. It was a $10 minimum. I complained that $10 min was too steep that early (8:30 AM) in the morning. There was one guy already there but he was waiting for another to show up as we did not like to play alone. I started playing my regular 3 point molly with $10 pass line and come bets with double odds. The other player would occasionally put a $1 on the hardways but was told he need to initially put at least $10 bet out given the table minimum. After about 10 minutes the box unilaterally lowered the table limit to $5. Odd that they would do that in the middle of a roll. Maybe they needed to get approval and it took a while to get it.

I don't know who would tolerate what, but I'm a room snob and have never stayed downtown, nor do I usually even go there while in Vegas. Multiple locations with $5 craps is the only thing that has had me toying with the idea of *maybe* staying a few days there in the near future. Make the craps closer to what I can already find on the strip where I have a bunch of nicer comped rooms available and theres absolutely no way I would stay there. $5 craps is the main draw for me and I'm willing to give a downtown stay a try only because it's currently a craps paradise compared to the strip. They wont lose me as a customer but they will prevent me from becoming one.

Fremont actually has 3$ craps during the day. I think el Co has something similar. But the knowledgeable player could be absent; unless it’s you of course.

There are two tables at the El-Co... only one of them open, and at $3 min, in the mornings...I think it changes to $5 sometime in the mid-afternoon, and that's when they seem to open up the 2nd table, although I'm not sure they have a set schedule for that... I do know that every time I've played before noon, the one open table has been at $3.

I was surprised to hear your report on the Four Queens having $10 minimum on a Sunday morning. That is absolutely ridiculous and I would have passed.

I love playing at the Four Queens without them starting with all this rolling mimimum nonsense. I have never had trouble finding a $5 craps game downtown on Friday and Saturday nights, unless it is Super Bowl weekend or a major holiday.

That being said, I will report when I get back from my December trip. As always, I will hit the Golden Gate, Plaza, Four Queens, and maybe Binion's. Fremont is not an option because they only have 2x odds.

Given my mood, I might stagger down to MSS since I had good mojo there last visit. They have even started to send me offers after a year of zero, zip, nada.....

I would love to play at the Cal, but you are right. The odds on craps are too low and they often raise the table to $10 minimum when it is busy. It is too bad because I LOVE to play with Hawaiians and asians. They usually know what they are doing and do not commit "fouls" like reaching in when the dice are out.

I’m in Vegas right now and was surprised the Cal maintained a $10 table all week.

Given the expense of running a craps table and the fact that I’ve been playing at five dollar tables since 1992 I could easily foresee the flip to ten dollar craps Downtown. In fact, I’d make it known that Circa never drops below ten dollars. This could be huge with their imaging, as they try to draw the Strip traffic Downtown.
