Good Morning My Fellow Las Vegas Peeps,

Okay, as many of you have followed along and replied to my post about rooms at the GC, ST, Cal, etc. I have made a final decision based on comps.

I called the Cal back, this morning, asked about comps for hubby, since their web site was showing 2 nights comp for me. They told me, hubby only had a discounted room rate of $35.00. But they did tell me, he had more play on his card than mine. So, why no comps? And that I did not have any offer's. I then told them, I was looking at their web site, and it was showing 2 comps for me. The rep said, they were not showing any comps for me, and the web site must be wrong. o_O Okay, I thanked her. hung up.

Then on a wild hair, called back, asked for room reservations for Main Street. A very nice lady came on the phone, looked up my husbands card number, said he had 2 comp nights. I told her, I was seeing 2 comp nights for me as well. She checked and confirmed that I also had 2 comp nights. Yeah!!! I booked it. And no resort fee.:lock:

She did request a walk in shower, and a quiet room, but she told me, she really didn't know if the odd or even number rooms would be the most quiet. So, I am hoping the MSS guru's can chime in here. Like @Joe. And everyone else.

I would have liked to stay at the Cal, but free is always a good thing like @Tee said. :woohoo:

She even recommended I call back with any specific room/floor that I would like. Give me suggestions, please.

It was confirmed rooms do have a fridge, a safe, and are in fact 400 sq ft.

Hubby will not have to sleep under the bridge, after all.:kill:

Hope to hear from everyone and it looks like I have come back to being a downtown diva, err.... a geezerly diva. Kinda. :woot:

Thank you all in advance.

I’ve only stayed at MSS once... 12th floor, I think, facing south towards the Plaza. Could definitely hear the train at times. I don’t recall whether or not that disturbed my sleep too much, as that was a very heavy weekend of partying, so my ability to sleep wouldn’t be a good yardstick for sleep quality. Nonetheless, the train noise did stand out... that much I can tell you.

You're not going to escape the noise completely at any DT property, but I think the train noise is fairly negligible. (Think Plaza) At least there is a distinct beginning and end! Can't help with floor/room#, but am glad you found something that works for you both.

I know DT is not your fav, but it is a cheaper and less tiring option. December will be festive and full of Country music. Enjoy and remember it will be chilly! I personally rather have chilly than 100+ degrees, but I'm weird and I know it.

    Good luck!

P.S. I see the "wild hair" is making its rounds. lol

Odd number gets you away from the highway.

Low number gets you away from the trains.

    Highest floor you can get.

That would be my order of preference at MSS.

I would normally agree with this. But these preferences are getting so publicised and well known I'm afraid I'm going to be checking in one day and the desk gal is going to say, "sorry, all those rooms are filled with people wearing wristbands that say VMB on them."
So I'll suggest people get even numbered and higher room numbers on lower floors. And no, it's not all about me. Just mostly.

I agree that the noise is really never a problem for me. I have never been disturbed in my room unless it is from the fighting people next door at Boulder Station (they were constantly trying to open the door between the rooms at 4 am while screeming at each other).

The fridges are big and the safe's (in my experience) are those lock boxes on the wall in the closet area. Other than that, the rooms are roomy and clean.

    Enjoy the free rooms :)

Free rooms are all ready making this trip a "Good Vibrations" kinda vacation. We will have "Fun, Fun, Fun" that I promise. Now, that I have more gambling money. LOL

I've even started shopping for a "coat of many colors" for those chilly nights.

Now, I really need to learn to "know when to hold them, know when to fold them" .... :poker:

I won't even have to think about "walkin after midnight" and being "too far gone". After all "these boots are made for walking"

Okay, I will stop with the stupidity. I'm now officially pumped about our Dec. trip. 15-18th.

So happy that you are happy and looking forward to your trip! MSS is a great little casino and it's not much of a walk to the FSE. All you need to do is walk over the pedestrian bridge into the Cal then go out the Ogden St. exit, cross the street and enter into Binions to reach the FSE.

I'm a bit dismayed as to how the Cal treated your requests. It's strange that the site reports you having free rooms and then the lady says no you don't. Makes me wonder if the Cal personnel know what they are doing because I too had some employees that seem indifferent and non caring.

But the main thing is that you are excited and looking forward to your trip. Have fun and a great time!!

I can no longer follow my own recommendation. I am a CPAP user, and mine goes on my right side (when on my back).

To plug in easily, I always ask for an even room. I do like ‘02 with the BR, but no longer really care.

I also questioned the Cal's remarks, regarding my comps, but maybe the person I spoke with was new or something.

I literally could have booked through the web site, but then I would only have the 2 comped nights.

At least with MSS she gave us all 4 nights comped.

I wonder, if it is up to the reservation person, especially if one is very close to earning a comp, if they have the ability to override what the system is saying.

I like the ambiance at MSS, and they do have one of my favorite old machines, COPS AND DONUTS. LOL

Just a heads up, over one months end we combined an offer with a comp at the Cal, and we had to go to the front desk at midnight to reactivate the key, even though it was the same room.
Might want to ask about that at check in, we found out when we were locked out of our room.

Thank you for the reminder about the key thing.

I was told we would have to go to the front desk on Tues. to have my husbands key activated. Now, if I remember. LOL

    BR = bathroom

In the low numbers, the bathrooms have been remodeled. Much nicer and had a higher shower head. Not that it is a big concern for the vertically-challenged.

I enjoy a shower head that doesn't hit me in the middle of my chest.

I have stayed at MSS and both towers of The Cal too many times to mention... I have never been bothered by trains, cars, loud maids, drunken gamblers, etc. etc. etc... There is always so much fuss about the noise thing downtown. I have always slept like a baby and not because I over indulge, I indulge just enough.

So, should I ask for a high floor, low numbered room. Or does it not matter how high up you are?

@K-9treatbaker We stayed at MSS for 16 years and would continue to do so, if it wasn't for the remodeled rooms at Cal. I can't really comment on the rooms since we always got a suite and those do face the freeway & the trains. The noise never bothered me, perhaps because of enough liquid refreshments. :drunk:

I have stayed there for 14, and never have noticed enough noise to keep me awake. Running the fan either on heat or AC provides plenty of white noise. Anything else is just a preference.

I know alexlifeson IRL, and I would say that it would take a rainfall shower head mounted in the ceiling to NOT hit you in the middle of the chest. :)
