Anyone experienced this- I called Cosmo re my email offer which for some reason I could not view online, first person I talked to gave me a quote of $200 a night (which I said I was surprised it was that high, as prevailing rate was just over 200, but he was firm that that would be my rate, so I said I would think about it).
As soon as I got off the phone I remembered I had another question, so called back, and got another person, and this time she came up with a casino rate of $120.

I guess the moral of this story is don't take no for an answer, or maybe if you don't like what you hear, try again.

Back before the internet, I would find this to be the case whenever calling hotels to check rates. You could call 3x over an hour and get at least two different rates.

I still check the web site first, then call, and every time, I get a better comped room, when I call.

The latest example is: On Bally's web site, I was comped a standard room, Jubilee tower. When I called, the clerk verified the comped standard room, but then told me, he could give me a premium view room, still comped. I booked the reservation. LOL

Sometimes "Old School" can pay off. :D

The human factor is ALWAYS huge.

Similar experience. Comped tower suite at Aria ($400+ a night on average). I am coming with my mom though, so I need two queens.

I called in, told them situation and asked if I could downgrade to the resort club lounge queen standard room. (Way cheaper than tower suites, but would still give my mom the lounge treatment.)

The gal said she could put me in that room for $1300.

So I have a tower suite totally comped, but I would want to pay $1300 for a lesser room why? (Of course I kept this thought to myself.) Same as you @Flowers I just politely said I needed to think anout it.

Like you, I called back in a few says later. MUCH cheerier gal. Told her the situation, like the last gal, but this one agreed my mom would love the lounge and suite. Her solution wasn't charging me $1300 versus zero, she offered a rollaway, free of charge! Great solution and I was thrilled.

Not quite the same, but drastically different solution based on person. I've also experienced this when asking for late check-out. Some say "you have to call the day before". Others will tack on on right there, free of charge.

I'm now in the habit of "call back" if i dont get the warm and fuzzies from someone.

It doesn't mean they're bad when they Stonewall you....they could be new, green, etc. As with any job, more longevity gives you a feel of which rules you can bend, and how to recognize when it's wise to bend those rules....same goes for booking agents.

So, if i don't like what one is telling me, I call back until I get the one who CAN/wants to help me.

Great, GREAT tip @Flowers ! You are one of our super-savvy Vegas-ites, and this shows how important it is to try, try again, if we dont like an answer/offer!

Multifarious-thanks for the compliment, but I am afraid I'm not @Flowers. Always appreciate your input as well, though

I know this is the case of web rates as well. I've witnessed higher rates when checking from a phone, as opposed to a desktop computer. This seems to be fairly common. The CET not-logged-in rates seem to vary with the time of day and phase of the moon as well. Clearing cookies sometimes (not always) will give you slightly less sucky rates, and sometimes slightly more to significantly more sucky rates.

Vegasdriven58 - are you sure this wasn't just a case of once the word got out that you were interested in staying on such and such a date the Cosmo realized that demand for rooms was going to drop precipitously resulting in the significant price drop? :stir:

    i forgot to add that
rates for CET are always a little more expensive browsing on your phone vs desktop
