Where to find Zantac on the strip (not there in Walgreens or CVS)

One thing that's surprised me about my latest Vegas trip is that there was no Zantac (i.e. ranitidine) in either of the big drug stores on the strip that I checked at (i.e. Walgreens and CVS). They had famotidine, which I ended up purchasing, but I was quite surprised.

Is that just due to the limited shelf space on the strip, or is Zantac simply not distributed in Las Vegas? Has anyone managed to find Zantac in Vegas?

    Please advise. Thanks.

There's a giant zantac recall right now due to concerns the pills are contaminated with a carcinogen. It's not a Vegas thing, it's US and Canada wide. Walgreen's, CVS, Walmart, Target, etc. have all pulled it from the shelves.

CVS and Walgreens have pulled Zantac and generics over issues of NDMA being found in them.

Ah, OK thanks guys. I didn't make the connection. What about generic ranitidine though? Surely that isn't from the same source?

Unfortunately it also affects the generics. I've been using Pepcid instead.

Several of the drugstores on the Strip have notices about the recall. I think the problem is with the drug itself, not the particular manufacturer.

Personally, I switched from prescription Protonix (pantoprazole) to OTC Prilosec (omeprazole) and have been fine; I've generally found PPIs to be more effective than anything else.

It might be. Still... it is the same stuff so it is recalled. We always buy generic and unable to get it. It worked best for my wife. Personally, they all seem to help me when I need them - which does happen in Vegas when I get way off my healthier diet from home.

I suppose it would be too obvious to say...just bring it with you?

"Our tests in lab conditions seem to pretty clearly show that the drug is able to degrade into NDMA by itself either in the tablet or actually in the human body." (Source)
Thus, the brand won't make any difference.

    Try tagamet, pepcid, etc instead.

After many years on Zantac and Prevacid, my doc has me on prescription Famotidene.

So... the next question... is the prescription any different than over the counter. Often times it is the same stuff, just a different size pill. Of course, if you prescrip drugs are covered by medicare.. then...

Often it's just the same stuff period, just in a slightly different shape and packaging. But yeah, if you have insurance, it's often cheaper to get it by prescription. The pills I take OTC are just about exactly the same as the prescription, but I pay a few extra dollars more for the convenience of not having to go to the pharmacy and instead just order off Amazon.

And some of it depends on the manufacturer....we did not pull it immediately at my Pharmacy as our supplier was not recalled. But then it was.....all off the shelves currently.
