Payne Stewart ... has it really been 20 years?

20 years since we lost Stewart and the others in that ill-fated plane. Still seems like yesterday.

 

Yeah, that time did go by fast. I think the latest Golf Digest had a little recap regarding this

 

As you said, I can remember like it was yesterday. Just like 9/11 and for others the day JFK was assassinated I can remember where I was (Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati), it was a beautiful day there. It hit me like a ton of bricks. What a sad and weird way to go.

 

How many golfers wearing their plus fours today?

would love to see that once a year on tour!

 

Payne Stewart was a damn fine person. The world a bit sadder without him in it.

 

Sad day for golf.

 

Yes, hard to imagine. I ran into him in the parking lot at the New Orleans tournament in '95. Great guy.

And I still remember when Tiger turned pro and said "hello world". Also remember the time when everyone knew that Tiger would win when he was leading after the 3rd round.

rats, I just came back from Japan on Tuesday. Didn't know there was a golf tournament near Tokyo, where I was at. With the weather rainy and overcast I would have considered taking the train up to the tournament had I known.

 

I still get chills every time I visit #2.

 

I was actually flying back East from Vegas the day that happened.

 

This is how I’ll always remember Payne. What a great scene on the 18th green at #2 in 1999. Since his passing I’ve often thought about what a perfect Ryder Cup captain for the US he would have been.
