    My Trip Report

I'm flying tomorrow night from Anchorage to Vegas. It's getting colder and darker here, so I'm looking forward to the next few weeks.

I like to stay in comped rooms and have to move a lot. I start at MSS, go to 4Q's, to the D, to Gold Coast, to Golden Gate, back to the D, back to 4Q's for an invitational promotion, onto DTG, and finishing at Freemont. It's been years since I've stayed at GC (or anywhere outside of Downtown) and am a first timer at DTG. Since my last TR, MSS dropped me to Casino rates starting November and El Co dropped my mailers in October. Fortunately, The D and GG have decided they like me more than ever, Boyd's Sapphire rates still include some free weekday nights, and DTG wants to make my acquaintance.

I play a lot of VP and meticulously detail my playing sessions. This was a running joke in my first TR. You aren't going to see a Royal Flush picture and guess how well I must be doing. My jackpots have context, and you'll be able to see if I'm up or down and how I got there. On my May and June trip, I hit 7 Royals. This trip will probably be a bit more of a struggle.

I also like to share about comps. It's common knowledge that gamblers can get free rooms, food and FP. I think it's less commonly understood that this is achievable playing games that the house doesn't have an edge on. I'm on a bit of a quest to find the best comped beer, especially D.T.

Tuesday morning, I plan to be at BHB. I hear that they know carry Space Dust, so I'll probably be drinking more than usual. Time to pack.

Enjoy your trip. I enjoy following along.

Btw, we'll be flying from Anchorage to Vancouver (via Seattle) in June. Are prices much the same all year? Do they ever go on sale?

    Thanks, GG.

June is in high season. I fly to Vegas in May and have to pay around 30 to 50% more for my June return on Alaska. Low fare carriers often have substantially reduced no frills fares and sometimes airlines run seasonal routes which can be good deals. I've only been flying on Alaska for over a year and never went to Vancouver so I'm afraid I don't have anything specific to offer.
June is usually a nice month. Last year we even had a heatwave. Nobody has aircon and the stores sold out their fans.
    Hope you enjoy your trip.

Thanks. I've got the Alaska Companion fare (via credit card) and have been following the fares. We haven't decided on exactly which day we'll leave (should do soon, probably the 2nd). We're arriving in Seward via cruise ship on the 29th and spending 4 or 5 days in Anchorage and Denali.

    Have fun in Vegas!

A summer cruise up the inside passage is a world class trip. I moved up here out of college a really long time ago. I had saved up enough money to hitchhike to Seattle and buy a ticket on the Alaska State Ferry to Haines AK. It wasn't a cruise ship. I slept on deck, ate food I bought from port, drank wine from the bottle and fell in love with how spectacular everything was. Hope you are equally awed.

Thanks. We did a 7 day (return Vancouver) 10 years ago, but haven't been to Haines Glacier and northward before. Interestingly, I lived in Petersburg 60 years ago (summers while my father managed the fisheries). I was very young but have a few memory snippets.

    Good luck chasing that royal!

    Thanks for the well wishes.
Carolineno, I retired last year so I have more time and less money than I used to. Can't imagine this combination leading to any problems.
Drac, This TR will probably be similar to last year's with fewer Royal Flushes and hopefully more timely. I was always several days behind this summer.
I still have 13.5 hours to take off. The flight from Anchorage is sold out except for a couple 1st class seats. I scored a 1st class upgrade from Seattle and I'll consider that my first win.
