    I'm curious how this works.

    1) For example, the .88 Asian themed slots with the coin bowl. I call these MSCBs. (money sucking coin bowls) Supposedly, the coin bowl closes randomly when you add a coin. I often see people playing .19 or .38 on these machines. Are they just as likely to close the bowl as someone who plays a larger amount? I usually play .68 or .88 and whenever I close the bowl I get the mini or the minor. Do you think the dollar amount played determines which progressive you get? I've always felt the progressive amount was predetermined, makes no difference which coin you pick. It has to be because there is no chance that I randomly select the mini coins every time. So I guess the question is...do you believe the opportunity for any bonus is the same regardless of the amount played? If you're playing for the progressive then, it would seem like you should just spin the least amount possible and increase your chances of closing the bowl.

    2) Next, Outback Jack. I play these machines constantly at Gold Coast and Orleans for either .60 or .90 a spin. Whenever I have gotten the random card pick for the progressives I have managed to choose the $5 consolation prize almost immediately every time. Do you think this is predetermined? If not, I am very unlucky or a piss poor picker. Is someone playing .30 a spin as likely to receive a chance at the progressive as someone playing $3? And if they are, is their chance of winning the progressive the same?

    3) Where's the Gold. I've always liked this slot...something about yelling Yeehaw! To me, this seems like a slot that actually pays based on what you pick because it shows what each of the miners receives as far as wilds and number of free spins. Usually there are two good choices. Once again, do you think the spins & wilds are randomly given after you pick, or is it predetermined what you will receive no matter who you pick?

There's a couple Aristocrats slots at Gold Coast with a cute kangaroo that watches you play. You can play .20 to .70 lines starting at 1 coin multiplier. I see that someone hit the $4000 progressive playing .20 recently. Also at one of my locals a person hit over $10K on MSCB's playing .38 a spin. Do you think the chances of this happening are the same as for someone playing max bet?

I see people really racking their brains on what to pick. Does it ever make a difference?

It's often proportional to wager size. So an $0.88 bet would trigger these jackpots about 5x more often than an $0.18 bet would.

So a person spinning .88 ten times and a person spinning .18 fifty times have the same odds of getting into the bonus? Once in the bonus are their odds of hitting the big one the same, or again proportional to wager size? Or am I misunderstanding?

Depends on how the game is designed. But it's this one where you keep picking until you get a progressive? Then in that case the 0.88 bet would typically get into the bonus 5 times more often that the 0.18 bettor.

Now some games (e.g Sex in the city) gives larger wagers more picks at various credit prizes and a progressive jackpot. $2 bet gets one 1 pick, $4 2 picks, and 6 3 picks. In that case, the triggering probability of the Bonus is equal.

Generally speaking though, jackpots that exist over multiple bet sizes are proportional to the wager. The Casino doesn't want to hose bigger bettors.

On OBJ, the card bonus is predetermined. You're not alone in getting 3 Crocs almost every time.

I think the old theory is in play here. If the unpicked prizes reveal themselves after the bonus is over, like the original WOZ or Jackpot Party, then you actually were controlling the outcome. If they stay hidden, you were just along for the ride

Yep, 3 crocs. I was on the phone with DH once when I got the card bonus, so I let him do the picking because I never win. Crocs all in a row. No more letting him pick either.

I like your avatar. I made it to the top of the middle surf board once this trip. Usually I get that darn fishing and boomerang throw. My favorite is free spins, then gold mine, surf board and crossing the river. I love that game. Absolutely none here in any of the locals.

I'm a huge OBJ fan. OBJ has a devoted following, more so now that they're being removed as they age. In a couple of years, they'll be all gone. Play em while you can.

I suppose there's always a chance they will update it. For a short time Gold Coast had a new drop down version of Davinci Diamonds that I actually liked, but it didn't stick around long. I just saw a brand new Coyote Moon at Orleans which appeared to be identical to the original. (lousy) I count six OBJ at Gold Coast and they are always busy. I could imagine a lot of bitching going on when (if) they take them out. After all, how many .88 Asian themed slots (or Buffalos) does a place really need?

Aristocrat came out with a new version of OBJ a year ago or so. It resembled the board game Candyland. It was a joke. You can probably find a video or two on YT. Didn't last long.

I believe the way the MSCB machines work is the wilds throw fortune cookies or coins in the bowl. Each fortune cookie has whatever percent chance of closing the lid. An 18 cent bet and an 88 cent bet are both 1x multiplier bets. An 18 cent bet is one pr no gold symbol and 88 is 5 gold. It is reflected in the animation while playing one gold symbol that just one or two fortune cookies per wild flies toward the bowl. At 88c bet, 6 or 7 fly in. I believe the chances work thus. Each cookie represents an RNG opportunity and the percent probability is same for each one, but you get one per gold symbol played from each wild.

Playing > 1x multipliers, in my experience seems to increase the percent chance per hit on the RNG as opposed to giving you more chances. The cookies or coins already pictured sitting in the bowl are just there to trick you in to playing the full one. I've seen an empty bowl close and full ones stay full and open for a very long time.

Yeah everyone on that game says that bowl is for show.

If the bet size increases are fully based on the gold symbols then the probability of triggering the progressive bonuses should be the same per spin. To really know if it is though, probably would need to see the damn PAR sheets which are secret, blah, blah, bullshit!

THIS! ^^^ I guess the assumption is that the machine just bonused, which it did because the bowl is empty. And the full bowl is due. I don't call them MSCBs for nothing.

Yah obviously we dont know the secret sauce. Just in my experience, I think the gold symbol difference is giving you more rolls per wild on a gold symbol, like you got a 1 in 36 chance of rolling a 12 to close the lid, but 5 gold symbols is letting you roll 6 times and no gold symbols is only rolling once (just an anology; I have no idea what the actual odds are)
I played 1 gold symbol for an extended amount of time once chasing a mini that was almost $1,000 on a machine where the minor was in the $200's and wanted to ensure I got the mini if I got a bonus. Lid never shut in over $1,000 worth of spins. I also learned this is a way (outside the HL room of course) to not waste money when drink service is poor. I'll order a drink, then drop it down to 1 gold, 1x until my drink arrives. Avoids those $50-100 free drinks. Have gotten fewer progressives that way than playing more golds when accounting for both/either total rolls and/or total amount of money through the machine.

I've closed the coin coffer twice within 20 spins before so it doesn't need to be full.

I've had the basket dump the coins on back to back spins. It's just random luck. I've also had zero random luck regardless of my bet.

    Gotta win this trip.

Most I think actually don't matter on bet size, in this case I think it just triggers more often the more you bet vs pay you more. This is really just a guess though.

On payouts being predetermined. My stance is that if you are told all possibilities at the end of the bonus, it is not predetermined, otherwise, your picks don't matter.

I think the worst bonus I had last week was $1.90. Got one for $3 too. Those were both on free spins and made me :grrr:. The best I got was $167 playing Tarzan for $1., also free spins. Played a new game, Cleopatra Gold, which had some kind of bonus round where the screen got taller and the wilds expanded. Got $150 on a .60 bet. Is it safe to say the free spins are random, vs picking for a progressive?
