Considering my next trip solo - but I've never done it.

I'm a VERY social person, extroverted to the Nth degree. On my recent trip I absolutely had a blast with all my fellas. However, getting them all together as often as I'd like to go, is going to be next to impossible. On top of that, my wife says she doesn't really care to go - which is fine obviously. Thus, I am considering going solo from time to time. I've traveled solo before. I went to Cabo (my other happy place) by myself when my first marriage hit the rocks. I liked it, but didn't love it.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts and experiences on what it's like to do Vegas solo, and if your first time was a big adjustment.

On the one hand, I'd miss the dynamics of the group. On the other hand, it would be a huge relief to do exactly what I wanted to do whenever I wanted to do it. I envision an hours long craps table grind.

Realizing this is very subjective to personal choices, whatcha think???

I think if you still enjoy gambling a lot, you'll be quite fine. Its very easy to have a lot of fun with complete strangers at the table, and if you are as extroverted as you say, you'll have a blast, even without your wife or the guys along.

I've gone to Vegas dozens of times by myself. It's no better or worse than going with other people. You get to do what you want when you want and there is no deciding about where to eat, gamble, etc. One thing I seem to do when I go alone is be more cautious about things. If you're with others, there's someone in town to rescue (salvage) you from a bad situation or loan you a hundy.

If for some reason you think you might not like it, book a shorter trip. I got my first taste of Vegas solo awhile back while waiting for family and friends to meet up with me. It was only 2 nights, but I've been hooked since.

I go to Reno solo every year and absolutely love it. There's just something about being able to suddenly decide to go do something without having any stress about whether you'll get group buy in. I also meet a lot more people when I'm solo, whether it be at a VP bar or the tables.

And the best part is if you get drunk and make an idiot out of yourself, who cares!

I've done multiple solo trips, but all of them have been for 3 nights or 2 nights... I go for gambling, so it wasn't hard to keep occupied the entire time...and I use the 'ATM method' of cash self-control, so it's impossible for me to go on 'full-tilt' mode and lose my trip bankroll on the first night.

Sure, it's always more "fun" to have somebody with you to share in the various experiences, but that doesn't mean you won't still have fun going alone.

What I enjoy is extending a business or extended family trip for a couple of days solo. I love it not being on anyone's schedule but my own, and I've never been bored, ever!

I've been going solo so long I've started to wonder what it would be like if my wife did come along.

If your comfortable being by yourself in real life, you'll enjoy a solo trip.

I love going to Vegas by myself. No one else to make sure is having fun while I play hours of craps or slots is a huge relief. Eating when I want and what I want is also kind of nice. I have done Vegas with girlfriends, family, and friends, and I prefer it solo by far.

I go to Vegas 2-3 times a year.
I always look forward to my solo trip the most.
I believe you need to be a bit of a heavier gambler (not $$ but time).
Going to shows, events, other non gaming things can feel a bit odd.
Restaurants can feel odd at first (unless your just doing food courts/buffets) but once you realize that there is a bunch of other solo diners it wont be as odd.

I tend to bring a bit more money when I go solo just because I have a fear of running out and having to spend the trip watching TV in the hotel room.
But.. Sleep in till whenever, go where ever, do whatever.. Just be cautious as it wont be much fun if you run out of money halfway thru.

I agree with what others have said. Vegas solo can be fun. Like you, I prefer the company of others, but I can do 2-3 days alone. I don't gamble non-stop, though. I also go to museums, get a massage, play poker, walk the strip, enjoy the pool, etc...

@Guy_ That's very sage advice about probably needing a little bigger bankroll. This last trip I didn't gamble near as much as I wanted because the group was out having fun in other ways.
    ,
In some ways though, I imagine it might be cheaper. For example, on my guys trip we ate really phat dinners every night, did the party cabana at the Nugget pool, a strip club etc. I'm not doing any of those by myself.

My trips to Vegas have always been business related i.e., attending a trade show. Several times I have brought my wife or I would attend with business colleagues. I don't discriminate, I enjoy any and all chances to visit Vegas. Being solo means I can be selfish and do what I want when I want without regard to others and that fits Vegas to a T. When I bring my wife, I do things differently, but I still enjoy being out there.

In other words, book the trip, you'll have a blast.

Always been solo. Since getting into playing poker in the poker rooms, I don't get bored. There's group interaction playing poker, but not what I'd call camaraderie.

I do at least half my 4 week trip solo every year, and love it.

Even when there are a bunch of us there, as it's during the WSOP our schedules often don't match up due to tournaments etc.

We still get together for drinks/dinners over the course of their stay, and then when they all head home I've another couple weeks to please myself completely.

Never been to a city that is so suited to solo travel. Always people to chat with at bars/machines/tables, and if you're not feeling sociable you can just keep your head down and chill.

I just got back solo and loved it. I found I did not gamble as much as I usually do. I did have a great time talking with everyone who I sat next to. I was there 6 days and I thought it flew by. Eating and stopping at places as I liked was fabulous. Hoping to go back over Christmas and meet some people from here.

I go to Vegas 3 times a year with the last one solo (this year it is in November). Craps playing is especially fun because of the social nature.

Being on your own schedule as to sleep, food, gambling etc is actually relaxing. If you like to casino hop, you can do so at your convenience

    You will be fine..

I found a solo trip both.

There were times, like meals, that I wished I had someone to eat with. But overall, it was nice to have my own sleep schedule,
do what I want when I want, ect.

I have to agree though, it could lend to more gamble time which could be good or bad?

But meeting people at table games ect, is a lot of fun! I'd say go for it and have a blast!

With my 110th trip coming up, with a few dozen being solo, I can say with absolute certainty that I much prefer going with a female companion, especially one who enjoys gambling … and me. And when you're with a compatible someone, being able to go and do what you want isn't a problem! But when alone, I'd rather go to Vegas than anywhere else.

I do a ton of solo travel -- Mexico, Hawaii, Canada, all over the states and notably to Vegas. It's different of course but still fun. It's fun with my wife, it's fun with my friends, it's fun with my family, it's fun solo. Eat what and when you want to. Play golf. Go to the spa. Play dice or blackjack if you want a social game. Check everything out as you'd normally do.
