Weird that this post started over a year ago - it seems therapy may be required to get over ptvd (or whatever we call it, presumably a course of leaches won't cure this)! My cure is to up the number of trips, previously annual but have now added another one.... Every 6 months from the UK seems reasonable

I just came back from Vegas, and have PVD. I’m not even sure when my next trip will be. I was planning February as I’ve gone there solo the last 2 years. But the wife has a business trip to Barcelona that week, and hates leaving the dog in a kennel, so I volunteered to stay home and use my valuable PTO time. I figure something out, as I always do.

It’s along flight from the UK. I fly from NJ so I need minimum 5 nights, prefer 6-7.

The struggle is real, and I've added a trip this year.

After over a dozen trips which mostly consister of last 2 weeks June and first 2 weeks of July. This year, I am going for 2 weeks just before Xmas, too.

If comps hold up, I might make it an annual thing, but not going to push to keep them coming.

I get it, but it’s mostly “I SPENT HOW MUCH” and then I’m down for a few days.

6 weeks later and I want to go again.

To help counteract this I’ve now got a dedicated bank account for Vegas seperate from my checking and savings. Contains my bankroll and spending money, I can do what I want with it. No ragrats!

I get significantly depressed every time I come back and this recent trip a few weeks ago was no exception. I think I was mildly to moderately depressed for at least two weeks this time. Reading the forums both aids in the recovery while somehow also making it worse, as it helps you feel connected to it still but also reminds you of everything you just experienced and won't be again for a long time (at least for me).

Aside from booking (or planning) another trip, the only other thing that helps is time, and it's usually a few weeks before I'm feeling "normal" again. I know that's such a spoiled thing to be feeling in the grand scheme of things but I can't help the chemicals in my brain...

The most recent time I flew to/from Vegas on United, I got an e-mail from them about 3 months after I got home...opened it up to see:
    Las Vegas is Missing you!
    Book it !!!
    I LOL'd

Seriously, though - I deal with PVD by coming here every day until I board the flight for the next trip.

This. :) When you can't be there.. Be here!

I write a Trip Report, I read others. I sometimes wish I could take a break from here when I've had a rough trip and feel a little Vegas'd-out.

Unfortunately, the only real cure for PVD, is to book another trip and make it soon!

only cure for me is booking the next trip... if my current trip is solo on the drive home I mentally book the next one. As far as using locals to get me to the next Vegas trip that ain't working for me. I have 5-6 casinos close by, anywhere from a 10 minute to 40 minute drive, they ain't Vegas!!!

I can't call it PVD if the last time i was there was last November.. but My son was born in June, so i know i won't be able to, and won't have the funds for a Vegas trip this year, and likely much of next year. But that same feeling i get when i get back and know there won't be a trip for a while is hitting me pretty bad.

Very happy to read this thread. One reason why I initially joined VMB was my PVD. Knowing that I am not the only one with it helped me. My life is great and I am spoiled by living on the west coast (only 1 hour flight to Vegas). I still can’t wait to get back to living my Fantasy life in Vegas...
What helped me over the years:
    1) book the next flight before leaving Vegas.
    2) only travel to Vegas. This is what I like. Why would I go to Florida etc if I miss Vegas more than any other destination?
    3) make sure I feel that I fully enjoyed and valued my time in Vegas. Feeling unfulfilled when leaving worsens PVD.

I got home Tuesday night. Ready for my own bed? Yes. Ready to come home, eh. However, the last 2 days I have been, not depressed, but just ummmmm, witchy - with a B! I had to shop today, everything in the store annoyed me. It's beautiful here on my deck, finally fall-like, but I miss the pool in Vegas.

Is it just post-vacation depression? Maybe it's alcohol withdrawal after 6 days of totally excessive drinking?

Whatever you want to call it, it's real.
The solution - start working on planning my next trip!!

It's real. I've been spending a good bit of time since getting back from Bend thinking about Bend. It's natural. And yes, make plans. In fact, I'm going to Scottsdale on Sunday, Vegas in November and Maui and back to Scottsdale again in December!

I know what you mean. I always need something on the calendar to look forward to. I have nothing planned after my upcoming trip and I already know I'm going to be grumpy coming home.

I just got back from a road trip. The last two days I was saying that I was looking forward to being home in my own bed, in my own shower, on my own couch with my Tivo to tell me what to watch on TV. But by the time I got here.... Yeah, I'm ready to get back to crappy hotels with tiny pillows and days spent wandering the desert looking at stuff.

I do think the Vegas Depression is a bit stronger, but I was surprised to see it hit so hard after a non-Vegas trip.

Helps to have a countdown timer or two. A little. I have a Vegas-virgin +1 for thanksgiving and tried to warn her about this, and she said "Oh I know I always get like that after a vacation." No you don't know...I think it's millions of tiny dopamine rushes the whole time you're in Vegas, and magnified for certain personality types. If someone would give me grant funding, I'd be happy to study it scientifically!

I definitely need a new timer. Part of the problem is the next thing on my calendar is a cruise at the end of February. That's way too long. I need to find a way to get something in between there.

Seems like the more shit I have at work, the more "the vacation depression" sets in, haha.

It's always harder with Vegas for me. There's always something I'd wished I'd done, or a restaurant I didn't get to try (lookin' at you Gordon Ramsay Steak!), or some drink I haven't had. . . .

But I agree with @MCann - Countdown timers help for sure! Sometimes I use them as other place holders for non-Vegas vacations, haha.

It definitely helps to have something to look forward to.

I believe it's real although I don't know why. I believe for everyone the "depression" is different and at different levels.

For me, I used to get "depressed" after a solo trip. Just the thought of going back to my job which was stressful and truthfully, wasn't satisfying anymore was just depressing after having a great time in Vegas.

It's interesting because now that I recently retired, I don't feel the urge to go to Vegas as much as when I was working. Just knowing I can take my time and go whenever I want to is calming and reassuring.

I remember on my first morning going to work after a Vegas trip I would always say, "Shit, here we go again......"

So, Vegas "depression" takes on many forms and this WAS just mine. Not anymore.
