There is a schedule NEC that goes with the 1040NR, 10a- enter winnings 10b- enter losses (in my case always larger than winnings, so, because you can't enter a (-), all future #'s are 0. 10c, 13, 14, & 15....all entered 0 make sure you attach your W2G and win/loss statements from each casino you played and dates of travel.
Thank you so much for posting this; I saw very quickly where I made my mistakes. Another question though, after reviewing the Win/Loss statements from MGM and Caesar's, it seems there were only losses of $145 and I'm asking to be refunded $839...will they issue the whole amount or will I qualify for anything given the fact I didn't lose much?
To be honest my losses are always more than the taxes held so not sure on this but worst case you will get the $145.
That makes sense. I know I lost more than $145 but I didn't use a Player's card at any of the off-strip casinos we went to. Maybe I could do a daily log and record it there as I know what I spent each day on gambling.
I guess you could try but I highly doubt it would get accepted without proof or else everyone who is dishonest would just make up losses to get the tax back and it's hard enough getting it even when you have all the supporting docs.
I have never been denied a claim. The only supporting documentation I provide is typed up schedule of wins and losses from each day/casino visited. I do get RMS to do my refunds tho so I don't know what is done on the forms at all. I also have never had a large refund. So that could be why. My refunds are normally between 800-1200. This year I had a few more big hits (but also played bigger as I was playing with "House" money) so I will be claiming noticeably more then normal.. we will see if it presents any new issues.
Just got back from being away so madly busy at work, (don't want Bossman seeing me do Vegas stuff)..If you still didn't get an example, I can maybe find one for you.
Does anyone remember when last years 1040NR's became available? There are drafts on line now but, not final. I did one a couple years ago but, I don't think I started it until Feb. I have @ $700 usd to get back this year. thanks
I would like to hear when other Canadians get their tax returns this year. I Had everything into RMS long before the end of the 2019 year and I believe they sent it in the first week of January. I am not expecting anything until late in the year but would still like to hear when others start getting them.
I sent ours third week of Jan, couple days after forms available. I will let you know when/if the cheque arrives!
got my meager refund in the mail this week so they are processing fairly quickly still on the sub $5k refunds.
Since RMS filed mine I don't think I can check easily but fingers crossed. I have a feeling if it has not been processed yet it will be delayed for one reason or another now.
Got my refund cheque this week for $3600. Sent it Feb 14, so it took about 9 weeks. My Refund Status never showed up on the IRS website, but I still got my cheque.
Nice. I assumed with everything going on right now that these would be delayed significantly for those who have not received them yet. This gives me a little hope that it will be coming still.
That's great news. My 2018 return was delayed because my ITIN expired... Had no idea. Got that approved March 6th and then filed 2019 a week later. Tried calling but no one answers the phone anymore. Vegas-TT's post gives me hope! Thank you.
