The Nevada state legislature tried to pass a law the last session to force hotels in the state to put all the fees at the front of the process instead of right before you book but it died in committee. Likely because some donors didn't want to see it happen.

The fees will likely not stop. Hotels will lower the room rates before they lower the fees because the room rates are what get put on ads.

I stayed at Hooters for a single night after arriving on a late flight, and checked into the MGM the following morning. I can assure you a Hooters room was overpriced at $35 all costs inclusive, Microtel better.

I actually didn’t mind the Hooters rooms too much. I stayed there twice, and while I found the staff to be a bit less than exceptional (saw a suit with a name badge in a shouting match with a guest in the lobby once), the rooms were clean and well-equipped, and the location wasn’t half bad.

For a $42 resort fee, plus the room rate and tax on both though... I’ll pass. Even if the base rate is $30 per night, that’s already more than $100 Canadian, when I can pay far less net elsewhere with relatively little compromise.

They will probably be pushing these rooms hard as Hot Rates on Hotwire and Express Deals on Priceline for the 'bargain shoppers' at $10-20/nt then slapping them with the fee when they check-in.

Which, on all accounts, is a recipe for disaster. Can you imagine how many people will just abandon the reservation and book elsewhere when they try to check in for a three-night stay that is supposed to be $10 per night, and they come to find out they’ll now owe $140+ in resort fees?

Then the hotel will only get to keep whatever percentage of the prepaid rate Hotwire and Priceline gives them. On-property revenues (casino, bar, dining) will also drop, since the guests will stay elsewhere. Tipped employees will drop like flies since they can’t make any money from a hotel that’s largely vacant. Not to mention one-star reviews galore.

I predict the problem will correct itself in this way.

My room literally had buffalo wing sauce smeared on the curtains and the carpet was filthy as well. I checked in at 1 AM and just slept in my clothes. Woke up the next morning, looked around and was gratefully able to check into the MGM before 9AM and unpacked / showered there before beginning fun on my Vegas trip.

Glad your experience was better. This room and a last minute one at the Excalibur (to tie over a few hours before a late night flight) were the two rooms in all of my trips which were really bad, thankfully total time elapsed in both rooms was under 14 hours (8 + 6) and the rest of my stays (across the valley, stayed at all levels of casino hotels from 2-5 stars) were great, including a subsequent stay in a remodeled Excalibur room on a comp for a few nights.

The only Vegas hotel I am afraid to book even for a night is Wild Wild West, between the hooker / drug scene and a few of their rooms walking past, I can't pull the trigger. Casino area is fine however, a typical low-end locals joint.

Both Priceline and Hotwire make it clear that there's a resort fee. That won't stop people from claiming they didn't know, of course.

That's not always the case. For the most part, they are pretty good - but I've been duped before. The key is to always keep your confirmations. I've also had them list amenities such as "free parking" and the hotel ends up having a daily parking fee

Was that part of the resort fee or did they charge you extra? o_O

Eastside Cannery shows $19.20 per night based on my booking in 10 days. Can confirm with Google search. Not sure if inclusive or tax or not.

The last few weeks while I've been poking around for rooms I stumbled across a few booking sites that do not list the resort fees on the final page before completing the transaction. So while the big boys show them like Expedia, Booking, Priceline, etc.. there are still smaller ones that don't. And even with the big boys the resort fee information is in small font, not on the first page of results, and often tucked away as much as possible without being too obstructive.

Stayed at the Wynn in June and they gave us the option to waive the fees we didn't want to use any of the services

Anyone know if The Linq will let you waive any portion of the resort fees if you don't use the service?

The only way to get waived resort fees at CET properties is to have Diamond or 7 Stars status.
