i usually catch a taxi at the hotels but the drivers sure love forgetting about giving you change...Other then that I’ve had no issue.

But I might try a few restaurants off the strip, is uber pretty good in Vegas?

Uber and Lyft is very good in Vegas. They are usually waiting all around the strip and downtown hotels, I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for a ride.

If you are heading off strip you might have to wait 5 to 10 minutes for a ride back to the strip but as long as it is not in the middle of no where you should be fine to catch one any time of day.

Haven’t taken a single taxi since Uber and Lyft came into play. 85% of my taxi trips had some
Issue and I would usually dread leaving the airport because I know something was bound to happen with them whether it’s a long haul or some other bs. It’s almost like my vacation didn’t actually start until I got to the hotel. Now I have no worries and the few issues I’ve had have been resolved quickly with Uber support.

Cliffs: yes Uber is good and imo much better the taxis

I guess I'll be the partial dissenting voice. Overall I have found Lyft to be cheaper than Uber.
Two people checking rates at the same time. One on Uber and one on Lyft.
I have found additional charges on Uber and have also been long hauled back to the airport by an Uber driver. I still don't know where he was going. I left it to my buddy to dispute since he ordered it.

One thing I really don't like is that after your request is accepted, the drivers can drop you if they get a better fare. This happened 3 or 4 times while waiting at the airport.
That seems to be a pretty dishonorable way to do business.

How much cheaper is it than a taxi. Last weekend I spent about $15 from the Gold Coast to the Stratosphere . It used to be fun to take a cab because the drivers could fill you in on the latest Vegas goings on. When the Russians came, it was equally fun because they were crazy drivers and always got to the destination in a rush. Today, it's generally some guy who doesn't really want to talk much. So, I'm now considering Uber/Lyft for my next trip in November.

Like anything else, you're mileage will vary. I just returned and had a several good experiences with UBER and Taxi's.

Had a very inexperienced female driver who was only with Uber for two weeks, I think the ink was still wet on her driver's license. She was unfamiliar with the airport and positioned her phone/gps too low and was constantly looking down at it and weaving as she did so. She took me to the wrong terminal because she disregarded my 4x repeated instructions to keep her head up, get in the left lane, and look at the Terminal 3 signs. I didn't leave a rating, she was new and probably needed the job.

Another time I was with 3 other guys, we had just left The Steakhouse at CC and wanted to hit the Golden Gate and FSE as two of the guys were Canadian Vegas Virgins. The Taxi driver thought we should go to a strip club instead and because I told him "no thanks" he borderline called my manhood into question which caused many laughs with the other three guys.

I use Lyft almost exclusively, so most of my experience is with them, but I have used both in Vegas. I've never had a problem other than some properties have an unusual place for pick up/drop off. For instance, Paris, it is not by the check in, valet or taxi. It's on the opposite side of the casino, out the door by Anthony Cool's. But most employees are usually able to help and the app will sometimes tell you too.

I haven't taken a single taxi on my last two trips.

It depends on where you're going to/from. If you're going off-Strip, Uber/Lyft is the way to go. You can often get a regular taxi to drive you where you want to go, but getting picked back up is almost impossible. Within the resort corridor, I've found Uber to the same at best as, and sometimes more expensive than, a taxi and often has less-experienced drivers (they are slavishly dependent on their GPS, which is a problem when properties have a bunch of different entrances); in addition, they often get very insistent even when wrong, such as the driver that was adamant that he could pick me up from the Aria main valet, then tried to charge me when he got turned away. Depending on the property, the pickup can be a bit inconvenient as well. As previously mentioned, your mileage will vary.

EDIT: For further context, I just checked Uber on my usual route. The base fare is literally 10 cents cheaper than what a regular taxi usually is, same price after tip, and the pickup location is an inconvenient one.

I use lyft exclusively but only because I get credits on my personal account by using them for my business account. I haven't had any issues and I use them to get all over the city.

That’s not even possible because once a driver accepts a ride they are locked into that ride only. They don’t get other ride offers while enroute to pick up their current customers to even see if there is a better fare. Also drivers don’t know the destination of the trip they accepted until the passenger is in the car and the driver starts the trip in the driver app.

Additionally, while at the airport, if a driver accepts and cancels twice, for reasons other than passenger no show, the driver is placed at the end of the queue and has to return to the staging lot and start the waiting process all over again. It’s mostly a disadvantage for the driver to cancel for any other reason than a passenger no show.

Your experience of being cancelled could not have been because the driver found a better fare, like I said that’s not even possible with the way the driver app works. There had to been some other reason for the cancellations.

Whenever we try to get Uber from Bally's it always thinks we're at the Cromwell. So we go to the Cromwell and then get a ride.

This happened to me on Thursday night, I used my iPad with WiFi and I had to manually adjust my pickup location to Bally’s.

That happens quite often in areas that are close like that. Passengers usually contact me to tell me where they are actually located and I go to their actual location to pick them up.

Yeah, just like with the Cromwell/Bally's situation, the problem is that while there are great drivers out there, there are also inexperienced ones who are singularly reliant on the GPS. In areas like the airport where there are roads literally stringing around on top of one another, the GPS sometimes can't keep up, so if they don't actually know the area, it can get complicated.

I drove for Uber and Lyft from October 2018 until May 2019. You cannot get another fare until you have picked someone up. The main reasons an Uber or Lyft driver would drop your ride are if you are not where your supposed to be, you are further than the driver finds worth while, or the driver has both apps running at the same time and they mistakenly accepted a ride on both at the time. Additionally, the app doesnt tell you where the rider is going unless it is a ride over 45 mins and even then it only tells you that piece of info. There are some new statuses that give the driver more info but your acceptance, drop, and rider ratings much be stellar.

Ok. I stand corrected. They didn’t drop me for a better fare. However, it’s still pretty annoying that it happens so frequently. And no, I wasn’t in the wrong place.
