I find Uber/Lyft to be extremely convenient and usually much cheaper. YMMV

To Chinatown, cab service is probably very reliable depending where you are coming from.

I'm not sure about cab service getting back from Chinatown though.

Ride share is available just about everywhere in Vegas. You may need to wait a few more minutes, but you'll be able to hail a ride. Plus, ride share will typically be much cheaper than cab, unless surge pricing is in effect.

Since the advent of Uber, I rarely use a cab... BUT... I don’t view them like the plague, as many VMBers do and have no issues jumping in one when visiting Las Vegas.

This is a complicated question nowadays.

If you're coming for a visit, taxis are often cheaper and more convenient than rideshare while coming from the Strip and within the resort corridor. Coming back, rideshare is going to be easier because it's difficult to get taxis to come off of the Strip. I've found that rideshare drivers also don't know the area as well as taxi drivers do; a few weeks ago, for example, a friend of mine called for an Uber which insisted on coming to get her at the main valet, where of course they got turned away.

However, if you're here for a longer period, Uber is doing a promotion (which in my opinion is incredibly ill-advised, from a business perspective) where rides are 50% off for the following week if you do two rides in the previous week.

From hotel to hotel, a taxi (paying with cash) was cheaper than Uber for most of 2019. It wasn't until Uber instituted their promotion a few weeks ago that things changed.

I personally love taxis because it requires no prior planning. Walk out the door when you want to go somewhere and jump in a taxi. That said, if off the strip and you want to return, good luck finding an available taxi back.

I know when and what is happening with Uber/Lyft.

Taxi's are... well... you have to find one first.

On average, I use lyft about 10 times a month in big cities all across the westcoast and have only ever had (knocks on wood) 1 issue. I've used lyft to get myself all over the Las Vegas area and it's always been reliable. I've only taken a cab in las vegas once, and that was before rideshare was available there. That ride went fine also.

That’s kind of a broad paint brush to label ride share drivers as not knowing the area as well as taxi drivers. Sure there’s some isolated incidents of that happening but not every ride share driver doesn’t know the area.

There are many former taxi drivers that have moved over to the ride share ship too. I doubt they forgot the area when they handed in the keys to their taxi for ride share.

    My experiences:

Cabs = very dirty and stinking cars
    Uber= daredevil dangerous driving/driver

Actually, the best and safest option is to rent a car and drive yourself;)

Unless they are drinking then not a very safe or wise option.

My experience (Vegas only) has been then I have had great luck with Lyft. Taxis have tried to long haul me and have been quite stinky and sometimes - downright dirty. I had one issue with Uber there and so I turned to Lyft at that point. I've used Lyft ever since and have been relatively happy.

We drive most of the time.
    Uber gets some usage.
    Taxis are a rarity.
    We never bus.

We all gotta find what works for each of us individually. YMWV

That's totally a fair criticism, and I'll admit that it's indeed a generalization. I wasn't meaning to say that every rideshare driver is bad and every taxi driver is good. I'm just saying that from personal experience, rideshare drivers are not quite as familiar with the resort corridor than taxi drivers, though I've had amazing rideshare drivers and crappy taxi drivers, and vice versa, for sure.

Got back from my trip, very unhappy with the taxis.

3 dollar service charge to use my credit card, 23 dollars to and from the airport. Had annoying drivers at Planet Hollywood not wanting to drive me to my hotel because it wasn’t far enough, cosmo drivers were just rude. Pretty much everyone was bugging about tips which I understand but on top of fairs it added up. My first driver in Vegas from Macarran practically demanded a tip.

will likely try uber or Lyft next time, I’m in no hurry to my destinations.

There is quite simply, imo, hardly ever a time where taxis are a better choice.

Ride shares are significantly cheaper, have more options, much more advanced payment options, convenient to call and schedule, easier to report issues and get resolutions, occasional promos, often cleaner. The list goes on and on and on....

Just be sure you have the right driver

I rarely hear about people getting abducted by men pretending to be taxi drivers. In fact I never have but I'm sure it's happened.
