I have one old School drink per trip, what do YOU think this trip's drink should be?

Uh-ohhhhh, "Last Word" just bumped WAY up there for me.

I really want to try a side car and an old fashioned, but cognac or whiskey etc. are more wintery to me.

Last Word has all the ear marks of what I like, and strikes me as more spring-friendly versus an autumn drink.

But, I won't know until I am in Vegas and decide what to try..... I never know until I chat with the bartender and see what he/she warms up to Like @notfromconcentrate said.

Or, I might order something on the Cosmo slot floor.

All I know, you all gave me GREAT ideas, and yes, I Will report back on what I try. But just know, whatever I try, I love ALL the ideas and whatever I try doesn't mean it's my favorite.... It will just be what I feel like in that specific moment.

Ha!!! I stick to my pseudo-vodka Collins as my go-to drink. I like the memory of one new drink per trip.... It let's me savor the experience memory.

Plus I do like 8 nights per trip, 2-3 trips per year. If I tried a new one every night, I think I'd burn through my list of possible too quickly.

But, who knows.... Maybe I'll try one per hotel this trip. Since I'm trying at Luxor for the first time, maybe I'll try @thecarve and @Robertb1 's Corpse reviver. ... In honor of the mummy theme. Carve HAS mentioned it before, so I know he likes it.

I'll definitely report back on what I try, and I LOVED your TR Ardee.... Even hubs knows you as my fellow cocktail and eggs bene connoisseur!

It's a Grasshopper, Multi.....and you're going to order one-two or three, and you're going t like it.

Those homeboys over at the casino bars in Mandalay make them up real good.

Make me proud, now.

 

My favorite "old school" cocktail is a side car. I like it "up" without a sugared rim. I also like a French 75 cocktail, but it is hard to find a bartender in Vegas that can make one. Try the lobby bar at Bally's if you are interested in trying this libation.

 

I drink martinis and Manhattans as my go-to cocktail, Manhattans from around Thanksgiving to Easter, martinis in the warmer months. But that’s real life. In Vegas I drink beer, and lots of it, so the old “beer then whiskey...” proverb applies, and I have maybe one hardcore cocktail like that in a trip.

But those cocktails are almost entirely hard alcohol. Not Vegas friendly for me, and there are other options with more mixer. Of course, Vegas means morning drinking, so I often get a Bloody Mary in the morning.The Cape Cod (vodka and cranberry juice) is a refreshing drink, and there’s also the gin and tonic. Last time I ran into a guy who was drinking Long Island Iced Teas, but I think if you order that you have to say it right: “Loo-on Guy-land.” And those pack a whollop. Plus, with the exception of the Bloody Mary, which counts as breakfast, I’m not a fan of cocktails that have more than three ingredients.,

 

Ok, since you're staying at Cosmo, Chandelier makes a very good old fashioned, but....pay for the Japanese old fashioned at Zuma. They use Japanese whisky instead of bourbon and a grapefruit peel, a very nice combo. Also not too far and very good is the old fashioned at Carbone, rum based, excellent!

And avoid the whisky sour at Luxor high limit, I honestly think they use Tang for their sour mix.

 

BTW, why limit it to one??? Or is it one per hour??? The one per hotel is a great idea!

 

OK guys, I flunked on my "old school cocktail" last trip as I was sick the first 4 days at Cosmo, and did not want to try it at Luxor (last 4 days).

I am wheels down in Vegas on Tuesday, and DO plan to do my "one old school cocktail per trip" on this one, so let the games begin again on tips/votes! Remember, I only do one per trip. (old school cocktail, not one cocktail per trip!)

So far Negroni, Aviator, sidecar or something gin-based, as I am not sure I've ever had gin! (I DO like cognac/brandy, but that's more wintery to me.) I don't like tequila or bourbon, OK with scotch.

Speaking of gin, I'm a vodka-soda gal for the rest of the night... Can I have one gin drink with Vodka the rest of the night... or is that a nightmare combo?

PS @formerlyTD, Im not sure it's old school, so I can still add it for you...a grasshopper is already on my list, in honor of you...if I behave and remember it! I I am not usually a minty or sweet drink gal, but if TD posts a pick for me, like you did in my last TR? I have to try it sometime!

 

Bellini, Kir Royale or Apeol Spritz if you want prosecco or champagne. Whiskey sour may do the trick as well. I would suggest you head to Frankie's Tiki Room on Charleston and get some classic drinks. Careful they are potent. You can also head to Downtown Cocktail Room for a classic. Mint Julep, Sidecar or Brandy Alexander made properly and half price during Happy Hour.

But whatever you do, only have one of these...unless you want the night to disappear completely.

 

Same with the old fashioned..the muddled fruit/brandy version was a variation that many associate with the drink, but really has minimal to do with the original...I was drinking Sazerac (rye) Old Fashioned's at Cosmo last trip made properly...gotta love whiskey tho...(Rye or Bourbon..)

I vote for the Negroni...its bitter orange flavor I love, many don't tho...It is a great drink to have before a meal...it truly opens up your appetite.
I like the other suggestions, Avation, Corpse Reviver #2 as well for Gin drinks...
Lastly, if you liked the manhattan, and you decide you like the Negroni, try their wonderful offspring: the Boulvardier...its essentially a Negroni made with Rye or Bourbon (Negroni should be equal parts, but in the Boulvadier the whiskey should be 1.5:1:1 with the Campari and Vermouth)
I would either order any of these at Cosmo if playing (preferably bartop VP), or pay for them to be made properly at a good bar, you want to asure you are getting what you ask for and made with care.

fyi: manhattan, negroni, boulvardier...never shaken, ever.

I standby my sidecar straight up recommendation from Cosmo, so much so that I had 4 in 2 hours. Cosmo delivers! And such sweet waitresses. When I tipped her a $5, she asked if I wanted change! No way, not for putting up with tipsy me!
