When do you start packing...

It kind of varies, an April trip about a week to 10 days out I check to see if I still fit into the shorts and T's and if so they have cooperated I put them into a pile to go into the suit case. For a September to October trip it is after I do the last load of laundry before the trip as I know what shorts are fitting and have earned the Vegas trip reward.

Mrs Brew follows this formula: 10 days out wardrobe check and go shopping, then go shopping again 7 days out, 3 days out go shopping and get pedicure and finally 1 day out pack.

 

Morning of the trip.

 

I start packing at least three days out, ensuring all my must haves/takes are in the fold. My wife packs the night before. She says if she forgets anything she'll just buy it in Vegas.

My wife is packed a week before we leave. I pack right before leaving for the airport.

 

I pack the night before, but there are some things that I lay out in the other bedroom. Stuff that I won't use like the week before. Shorts, socks, ect.

 

I guess I'm the weird one, but it's all part of the excitement for me. Coming from the UK we normally have to book a long way out to get a decent price on the flights. And we stay for two weeks, so need to bring more 'stuff'

So probably a month/six weeks beforehand I will get the suitcases down from the loft and start throwing stuff in there as and when. I have a spreadsheet I tick off as I go along, as it's easy to forget whether you packed something a month ago

We didn't get to Vegas this year, so it will have been nearly two years when we get there in March next year. Can't flippin' wait

 

Two days before, layout by bag and start thinking through what I really need. On a side note, I've become better at packing for Vegas. I only bring what I really need. You should have seen the crap I brought during my first 5/10 trips!

 

Tell me about it! From 1997 to about 2008, I used to bring 2 outfits for each day (daytime wear and nightime wear), shoes for each outfit, jackets, sweaters - UGH! I can't believe I used to lug all that stuff.

Now, it's a backpack or a small under-the-seat roller. I love not dealing with the baggage claim carousel.

I do that too. I always over pack, but, sometimes you want a variety to choose, much like when you're at home.

 

I put most everything in the guest room days before but pack the night before.

 

About a week in advance I’ll set aside a couple outfits to ensure I don’t dirty them up and need to do laundry the night before I leave. I have toiletry bags that are strictly for travel so I’m always good there. The act of sticking it all into a bag usually occurs the night before the trip.

I start the night before.

 

Usually start gathering together 24 hours prior to departure but physically pack just shortly before leaving my house. I'm a light packer.

Day before or day of if I'm leaving later.

 

4 hrs before the flight lol. I feel safer this way, as I am getting ready, I have a mental checklist to make sure I have it.

 

I used to begin about a week before. When I (we) started traveling monthly or more I realized it behooved me to double up on things I use daily. So now with brushes/toiletries/curling iron etc. already to go in the suitcase always - I can just throw in the clothes and meds and junk like that a day or so before. Easy peasy and I rarely (if ever) forget anything.
