Trying to decide on whether to stay at 4queens or Ellis island for the opening weekend of NFL season. I am traveling with 3 first timers so being close to the strip would be better in my opinion. However, I like staying downtown for value. None of the strip properties are reasonable during our time period.

    Thanks!

Tough call. Even though EI is a full block off of the Strip, I think every first timer to LV should stay on the Strip and get the Strip experience. I vote for EI. Yes, once you've been to LV then you realize the better value of downtown and the rip-off of the Strip (though EI has some great food at really fair pricing) but newbies need to see all the marble in Bellagio, The Venetian and Wynn. They need to be awe struck...next time they can watch their wallets a bit more and stay downtown.

I would do 4 Q. The newbies will be awestruck with the DT action and you can still do the Strip.

Just curious, how many nights will you be in Vegas? I'd lean downtown for a multitude of reasons. The environment will be crazed, the free nightly entertainment on the different stages, cheap eats, and the built in ever present freak show, plus the lights, glitter and debauchery embraced by the masses. Btw, I'm FSUnFins. Good luck against the Gators next week.

We will be in town 4 nights. I’m optimistic....unlike last year against LSU. Although, no one is giving us a chance.

I would stay at ellis island the rooms are very nice they have just been remodeled the food choices are good and cheap. they have a good selection of slots and low min table games not open all the time tho. VP is good to play for free drinks we love the hefewiesen beer. The sports book is small but works for bets. It is a easy trip up to the strip from there walking. We stayed there last year and enjoyed are stay it was on a comp so comps are easy to get as were not big gamblers.

I would probably do 4Q, but have not stayed at EI before.

But an uber between 4 guys won't cost much for a day of checking out the strip, and being at 4Q will feel a lot more like being in the action then being off at EI. And while both will have cheap gambling options, staying downtown will be cheap gambling with variety and party pits (and bands on the FSE etc).

Ellis Island isn't on the strip and you either have to make a looong walk or uber anyway to get there. So I would stay at four Queens and visit the strip at night.

    4Queens.

The Strip is a $15-ish Uber ride, split four ways. Watch all the NFL you want in the sports book of your choice.

When the games are over, you can do strip stuff if you like. But if you're beat after watching 9 hours of football, downtown allows for more [you mentioned value] gaming without the extended hike between casinos at the end of a long day. I love the casino, but once you return to Ellis Island, you're kinda done.

Edit: And I see I pretty much copied Nevyn's post. Pardon the repetition. Great minds, etc.

Bally's is really only a short walk from the Super 8 at Ellis Island. Even in the heat, it's doable and the strip is far more interesting than downtown, in my opinion. If rooms have been remodeled then it's not a bad place to stay—used to be incredibly loud AC in those rooms. The casino is for low-rollers and has a great restaurant. Bally's sports book was once a great place to watch horse racing and sports, but not sure if it has been remodeled. In any case, it's only a short walk from there to the Bellagio, Cromwell, Caesars, Paris, etc.

If you want a party stay downtown. If you want to gawk at the marble and architecture and grandiocity stay at EI.

I think 4Queens for the virgin voyage. Then Ellis Island if any of the virgins turn into Vegas Buddies. If they dig downtown they'll dig Ellis Island. It's a shake down cruise.

I have stayed at both. EI has great value for food and beer but it most likely will cost more to stay there than the 4Q. The rooms at EI are nicer than the 4Q. I did stay at EI last year and it averaged out at $120 per night with Resort Fees and taxes.
I am not sure if 4Q has a Resort Fee yet though.

If you like the bucket beaters, 4Q can't be beat.

It's a toss-up really. You want strip or downtown?

I will say that for 3 first-timers, these are both pretty poor choices as far as actually STAYING goes.

as someone else stated, just stay at 4Q. There is plenty to do within walking distance, the bus trip to the strip is cheap and easy.
an Uber ride is dirt cheap split 3 or 4 ways.
    PARTY ON!

Wow! $120 a night for Ellis Island seems high. The 4Q has no resort fee.

Walk out the door of the 4Q and you have 6 or 7 casinos within 100 yards or so.
Walk out the door of Ellis Island and you have a pretty long walk to the strip.

Downtown gives you a large variety of dining options. Some pretty good steakhouses - Vic & Anthony's (Golden Nugget) and Top of Binion's Steakhouse (Binion's) and Andiamos (The D). And the Golden Nugget has other options that are pretty good - The Chart House and The Grotto come to mind. And don't forget Hugo's Cellar at the 4Q.

4 Queens has my vote. Visit the strip and return to downtown.

i vote for 4Q for all the repeated reasons above. if you really want to hit the strip, you can take the WAX bus a block away from 4Q that will drop you off right at Tropicana for $2, perfect location to take a walk south to the LV sign for pictures and then go north to cruise the strip to your liking. take an uber or hop on the SDX bus to get back to downtown when you want some relief from the heat and crowds.
