We booked a 4 night stay at the Cosmo for our 50th Wedding anniversary and my DH's 70th birthday. We did not book a fountain view. What are my chances of being upgraded when we get there? We are arriving on Thanksgiving. Or should I just see if I can upgrade before I go?

I've never tried for a free upgrade, but when I booked my comp - which is a terrace but not fountain view, it's $30 a night to upgrade to fountain. So I just do it!

Thanksgiving is generally an off peak time, even the weekend after, so I don't think you'll have too much trouble. At retail rates, the spread between fountain view and non-fountain is 30 or 40 per night. If you make conversation at check-in and ask nicely, I bet you'll get a better offer than that-- maybe free, but I doubt it. If it's important to you, I suggest you just call and ask to change the reservation now. They're more likely to charge in that case, but the FV rooms are awesome and given the milestone nature of your trip (congratulations!) you might prefer to eliminate the uncertainty.

Yeah if you really want the fountain view, I'd call and lock it in now.

you could always use the $20 sandwich trick upon checking in... but I think $40-50 may get you more traction
