How Early For Fremont Concerts?

Planning on hitting the Collective Soul free concert on Fremont this coming weekend. How early should we plan on being down there? Show starts at 9. Not interested in fighting to be in the front row, but wouldn't mind being able to actually see the stage. I'm guessing it gets pretty crowded.

 

First, put all your cash and identification in your front pockets so it is too crowded for additional fingers as you stand Butt cheek to crotch with people you’d rather not ride an elevator with due to close proximity.

I'll be there! Looking forward to hearing some of the songs I havent heard in a long time.
We happened upon another popular concert downtown in October by chance. They create walking room for people passing by at the back but you cant stop and linger.
I'd agree, keep valuables close, get there earlier and keep a wide leg stance to keep some space for yourself. Otherwise there's always space off to the sides where you can hear but not see.

 

So for follow up, we went down to Fremont but ended up passing on the concert. They had erected high temporary fencing for about a half block around where the stage was located (between D and 4Q). Didn't feel like being penned in. Too small of an area for me. Plenty of security including metal detectors. Not sure how they expected people to use bathrooms and the like, seemed like the entry and exit would be a nightmare. Timing wise, as of 2hrs before the show they still weren't letting anybody in.

We arrived during a concert once....rick Springfield. The bass was earthquake worthy. It was a zoo.

 

We were thinking of seeing Cheap Trick in a couple of weeks. Not that we care too much about seeing them but we would like to play the Derby at The D and walk around. I am thinking now that it might just be a zoo.

Do you think we should skip it and go the Sunday night instead?

 

You can take the escalator up to the deck. Can’t exit via escalator to the street due to going up BUT you could exit and stand. Get there early.
A little derby. A little deck action. Haha

 

Depends on whether you're ok with being fenced in. Sunday might be easier to get on the derby.

 

Those Fremont concerts sound like the type of "fun" I avoid like the plague.

 

I was there for that one. it was fun, but sardine city.

 

I have been to several of these in 2017 and 2018, but none this year. nothing compelling for me in this year's line-up.
I had VIP passes several time last year from Boyd's. that was cool.
lighten up on the drinking a few hours before the concert to avoid bathroom emergencies. if you do feel like you might have to use it, START WALKING! it may take you a while to break free from the crowd.
they usually play for 90 minutes, give or take a few. I have managed to make it through the whole set without having to trot, and I drink a lot of water and beer and coffee.
if you are staying downtown, just leave everything in your room that you can't fit in your front pocket. it is cheek to cheek and plenty of predators.

 

Yup was there at QQQQ during the Nelly concert. Absolute sh!tstorm, but my host got me room on the other side so I slept right through it, and the alleged noises thought to be gunshots, and the panic in the streets.

 

I was downtown on that night as well, but I stayed inside the casino and gambled. I avoided that disaster.

 

In their defense, whoever runs the whole deal is very efficient. We came out of the casino about an hour after the concert was over and you couldn't even tell it happened. I wouldn't avoid Fremont totally if their having a concert, I would just be ready to avoid Fremont proper while the show is on.

 

This time of year those concerts are over-crowded and hot! Saw the Spin Doctors a few years ago and was very disappointed. A normally upbeat and active band was very bland and hardly moving, I am assuming it was due to the excessive heat! We hung around for a couple of songs and decided it was much better to just head back into one of the casinos where there is air conditioning, just like mother nature intended!!!

 

Thanks for the replies. You sold me. Cancelled my plans and will be going on the Sunday night instead. I kind of like Fremont St when I feel like I have it more to myself then be packed in, especially during the hot and smelly days.

 

I have a question about these concerts. Do you go up to the stage and wait for the show to start a couple hours before or have to line up somewhere? When I walk by a few hours before concerts, I see some people standing at the stage waiting. Then I see a line behind metal detector people a distance away and their all just standing there. I have not been to any shows worth waiting to see though, only walking by. But if I see someone it is worth waiting for, can you wait at the stage? I wonder if they allow certain number of people to actually wait at the stage and then the rest have to be in some line going through metal detectors?
