What do you think would be a good approach for obtaining one of those mini mustard jars like they often provide with room service? Let’s just say I’m too cheap for room service and don’t want to order room service just so I can get a mustard. Do you suppose asking nicely while at a restaurant will do the trick? I’m going to be downtown next weekend and told a friend I would try to procure one as my friend collects mini things.

Thanks for any suggestions, especially those that are legitimate and not snarky.

Go to a restaurant that you think might provide room service and ask. I have a friend who calls those “jelly jars.” She asked me to get her one. I went to the the hostess stand during a not so busy time, asked and they brought me out a whole bag full of the condiments. I’m sure the tip helped.

They have mustard packs in the deli at my local supermarket, every time I pick up something, I grab a few. That's one option.

Thanks, but my friend wants the little jar, not packs.

Your best bet is a nice upscale restaurant, the casual places use the mustard packets even for room service. I’d just ask the hostess for one letting her know you’re trying to find one for a friend that collects them followed with a tip.

No help now, but Bellagio Cafe always provided them with sandwiches.

Troll the hallways. You think I'm joking but I'm not. I've often snagged those small condiment bottles if I see them still sealed on a tray outside someones room.

They are usually vacuum sealed or have some kind of paper neck wrap that you will know if it’s been opened. Not as if I’ve ever done it, mind you.

That’s a good idea too. I will try that. I’m staying at Four Queens. I know they have room service but not sure how often it’s used there.

True, as long as the hotels don’t have security measures to prevent non-guests from accessing hotel room hallways.

Are y'all talking about these that you can order from Amazon? https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mini+condiment+jars&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
Is it the end product or the 'thrill of the hunt / souvenirism' that we're looking for? The reason I ask is, the term "collect" was used in the OP. So it's kind of a case of "I got this from X-resort" vs. "I got this".

In case you don't take JPW up on his offer for whatever reason, room service at Four Queens is actually pretty inexpensive (and I think you can use your comp dollars on it, though don't quote me on that). Though if it were me and I didn't feel like ordering room service, I'd probably ask at Magnolia's (I'm pretty sure it's their kitchen that's used for room service), and a $5 tip should land you a handful of them.
