Great report...if you keep going on the tour, give Rusty Spur Saloon a chance! Stayed there for way to many drinks in July..

These are beautiful, publication-worthy photos (and taken with a very good camera and different lenses). Fantastic job.

    Agree with 18000rpm.

I was thinking that those Downtown photos would make a great coffee table book.

Wow what an awesome report. Just what I needed to read thru while having a quick lunch during a stressful day at work. Pictures brought me right there with you. Enjoy!

Rise and shine, get out of bed
    Get ready for the day
Get a coffee from the deli
    And walk the riverbank
Be careful with your headphones on
    When you cross the FDR
Don't want to be a casualty
Before you make it to the bar
And hide your shakes, and worried face
Just sit down in the back
Your friends got there ahead of you
    And night is falling fast

Oh, you know you shouldn't say it
So you're thinking it out loud
Some things we lost are never to be found
But if you're gonna talk like that
    At least buy another round
And we can keep drinking till St. Dymphna kicks us out

This world is made of blinking lights
    They're changing all the time
But depending who you're talking to
    It's likely to be fine
I watched you go from bad to worse
The blues is here to stay
But sometimes it's the simple things that make it all okay

    - Conor Oberst, “Till St. Dymphna Kicks Us Out”

Great report, thanks for sharing it all, especially the pictures. In the picture of the LongBar that you took, at the far end is the coolest bartender in town. Bearded guy, his name is Chris....he does a mean version of Blue Steel. If you've seen Zoolander, you know what that is.

I will be gambling once I get these dive bars out of my system. I’ve met some incredible locals working and sitting at bars over the last day. I have a long list of places to go I never would have known about. A poetry reading Friday at a new bookstore downtown. A rave Friday night on the strip. A deep 80s electro video party tonight. A record store with a an employees name who will show me records they keep in the back. A hidden bar that isn’t on the internet that you have to know about. A jam session with local bar owners and marijuana industry execs. But believe it or not I haven’t bet a penny and I’ve been here 30 hours. That’s a rare occurrence for me. In fact, it’s a first.
